The Runner

by: Guildford Windley

The Runner
The Runner runs, run runner run
Don’t look back at what has been done
What was, will always be, but in the past is where we hope it stays, except for memories that are baggage on the brain
Look to the future, learn from the pass
But we know the truth, you’ll never change
Run runner run, flee from your past
She gave you her heart, you stole what she had
Her love was not on your mind, you used her for the lust that you had
Then like that you were gone
She was not the first nor will she be the last
Run Runner run, run to forget, but nowhere to go, with all that regret
Haunted every day and every night by the memories of each woman, who heart you have stolen
Run runner run from your past, for each day that pass bring you nearer your last
The sins of your life, you fear will all be there to greet you on the day that you pass
The wrong that you did will show up at last and for eternity you’ll face the past.
But still you cannot change, for your heart is driven by lust
Run runner run, for the time, is near, the finish line is coming up and all your sins are waiting there
For no matter how fast you run, your past will always catch up to you!
