What does ecstasy mean?  Let us first take a look at the Webster Dictionary Definition of ecstasy.

Ecstasy-1.  An overwhelming feeling of great happiness or joyful excitement.  2.  an emotional or religious frenzy or trancelike state, originally one involving an experience of mystic self-transcendence  3.  A state of feeling so intense that one is carried beyond rational thought and self-control

Daily Wisdom Word Definition-1.  A feeling so intense it surpasses passion, and can be spiritually based.

Ecstasy is such a wonderful feeling that we wish we could feel it all the time.  When we do feel ecstasy, it is easy to get addicted to that feeling;  hence the name of the popular designer drug, ecstasy.

Ecstasy is an set of emotions all mixed up in one.  If I were to compare it to a recipe, I would suggest mixing 2 cups of passion, 1/2 cup  transcendence, 1 cup of happiness, 1 cup of elation, and some very spicy spices to get the recipe right.  This is the best way I can describe ecstasy to you, but I don’t have to because most of us know what a wonderful feeling it is.

When people think of ecstasy, they usually associate it with sex, including myself so I was very surprised when I cross referenced dictionaries not to find one word about sex used to describe it.  When I think of church, I also think of ecstasy.  Every time we go to church on Christmas Eve, it is amazing the wonderful flood of emotions I feel during the service.  Ecstasy can be felt throughout the room, in this ceremony.  The music is a high in and of itself.  During our service, towards the end, candles in plastic containers are passed to everyone, and all the lighting in the church is dimmed.  Each person passes their lit candle over to light the next person’s candle and so forth, and eventually, in the room, all you can see are these raised flickers of light in the room and it is so beautiful.  That, is a feeling of ecstasy that I experience once a year.

I have done my best to describe ecstasy from a non sexual viewpoint, and I would love your suggestions to best describe this wisdom word in less than 300 words, lol  Seriously, suggestions are welcomed, especially with a word like this that is hard to describe using all the dictionaries in the world.  I think it is one of those feelings best described by experiencing it.

Thanks so much for reading about ecstasy today.  I look forward to your comments below.  Have a wonderful, blessed day.
