LIGHT

Our daily wisdom word today is “light”.  We use the word, light in so many different contexts.  Light can refer to the natural light outside, a lamplight, starlight, a light-hearted individual, or perhaps one of the most important ways light is portrayed from is within us.  I picked the word “light” because it has so many different forms, each with a unique meaning.

When I think of light, I think of the light we each have that shines within.  Believe it or not, each of us has a “light” within us.  Just like a light switch with a dimmer, our light shines bright but sometimes sometimes dim.  When our light is shining and bright, we are like a magnet.  Others around us feel a warmth, kindness and even grace when our light inside us shines brightly. You may remember a time when you have remarked of the light inside another has with a statement that is very common. For example, a statement like this:  “When Nancy enters a room, she lights it up with her warmth towards others”.

Let us take a look at the meaning of light in the Webster Dictionary and see if they reference light as we will in our daily wisdom word definition.  Webster Definition of light-1.  The natural agent that stimulates sight and makes things visible.  2.  a person notable or imminent in a particular sphere of activity or place.  3.  an expression in someone’s eyes indicating a particular emotion or mood.

Daily Wisdom Word definition of light-a particular quality within us that causes others to gravitate towards us because of an effervescent quality we feel inside. this illumination causes others to be drawn to them like the pull of a magnet.

The times in my life that I have felt my happiest but didn’t look my best when I was simply in too great of a mood to care, is when I have received compliments like this.  Often times working in sales as long as I did, I would often have to “fake it till I could make it”.  In other words, I would work onsite from home builders and sometimes go hours without seeing a customer.  Sometimes, I would get all my paperwork done quickly and have to sit onsite until it was time to close which was five or six in the evening.

Just before I would close, I would hear a car pull up to my sales office and this is when it was the hardest to have my light inside flashing, “we are open for business.”  In that line of real estate, if you did not sale homes, you were eventually let go or laid off from your job.  I was too competitive to allow this, so I would put a smile on my face and soon, since I loved working with people, I would be doing my job like one “rides a bike” and shine outwardly. I enjoyed hearing about others, and their home needs, so I would ask a lot of questions.

Before I knew it, I had a picture in my head of their exact tate, and could guide them to the right home for them.  I wouldn’t however, be home until 9:00 pm sometimes, as I would end up writing up their contract.  The main reason, however my light shined outwardly was because I really loved helping people, and it is a part of my personality in a social situation.
