A Look at Mother’s Day

A Look at Mother’s Day

by: Guildford Windley

A look at Mother’s Day
The sun peeping through the curtains hanging from the window
The warm beams of light seeping into the sleepy bedroom
Yes, I got a feeling this is going to be a great day
Smell that coffee brewing as lie buried under the blankets and the quilt that are upon my bed
My sleepy eyes awakening to the new sounds of the day
Hungry birds a chirping crying out for something good to eat
Children laughter coming from the street; people moving all about, oh so such clatter to the ear
Out of bed, I stretch above my head, shaking off the sleepiness that I just had
Knowing in my heart, this will be a great day
It’s mother’s day Sunday, a very good day I think
The kitchens in a frenzy, as my daughters work in time to prepare a loving meal to be fit
For the lady who rules the house
She, my wife and their mother, sits at the table for on this one day, she rests as the roles are reversed
Although she sits among the chaos, her eyes are keen to the creation being spun as she sits sipping coffee words of concern come from her mouth
Me, now I take a cup of coffee and give my wife a morning kiss
Using my better judgment I go someplace to hide and to stay out of sight
As I drink my coffee, my mind wanders back to a time when my dear mother was still alive
I fondly remember those moments in my life
For what is life, but the love a mother brings to your very being
Her hands holding onto to you, watching you grow
Yes, dads are important too, they help build you into the person you’re meant to be, but it’s the mom that has the finishing touch
For through her eyes you learn to see the beauty that this world can bring
Oh yes this going to be a great day, a very special one indeed
I can smell waffles, bacon, and eggs cooking and as I look around the corner of the living room
I can see a dinner table just below the lit candelabra
All set with love, a tablecloth of all in blue in the center a crystal vase filled with Sunflower of yellow, blue irises and white lilies too
Thank God for moms and daughters, oh and sons too
As we sit around the table sharing this time together
I wish it would last forever, but at least dear God I’m thankful
For the love and laughter on this Sunday afternoon!
