  1. Bull Dance

He twists left hand in coarse bull rope,
thoughts on money, a desperate need.
Second Go, last one. They tug the strap,
angering the bull to snorting fury.
The cowboy’s legs grip and beast launches,
shoots the chute, chasing the Barrelman.
    The fierce dance, pounding hooves
matching red thunder in human veins.
Right arm whipping, bull bucking, spinning
    left, away, beastly muscles bunching,
a deadly fade, forcing the cowboy’s hard twist,
    right arm pumping, muscles screaming.
The bull is tireless, spinning, bucking, fading.
The cowboy’s slipping as he readies to dismount
from the deadly ride, releasing the rope, launching
with the power of a fearsomely high buck.
He hits the ground hard, hands pulling him
away from slashing horns, kicking hooves.
Tears, thanks be to God, he needs that money.

  2. Like his dad & granddad he wore a
Red bandana when he prepared to
Ride the bulls in the rodeo’s & like
Them he only felt alive in the 8
Seconds when he was riding them
