The Potty Fairy

BOOK TITLE: The Potty Fairy

BOOK AUTHOR:  MARY PAP

BOOK REVIEW:  This book is a must for Children’s Fairytale Stories.  It compares children to little potty fairies and going potty with the reward system of getting their first pair of underwear.  The illustrations and words in this book would motivate any child to begin potty training.  A must read if you have toddlers you wish to potty train.

The Zigzag Path From Hopelessness Overcoming PTSD

BOOK TITLE: The Zigzag Path From Hopelessness Overcoming PTSD

AUTHOR:  Shirley Mandel Satterfield

REVIEW:  This book outlines the author’s battle from her childhood to her adulthood with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) growing up in Baltimore, Md., with an alcoholic father and abusive mother.  This book outlines all the things the author overcame from childhood to adulthood and points out through life experiences just how long a diagnosis can actually take and the mental symptoms that can manifest themselves physically in a case of PTSD.  This book also outlines her slow path back to recovery including a great deal of weight loss, and shows us how strong will and faith and love can be in one’s life.

The Author points out just how important faith in God can be in healing oneself with this diagnosis.  She points out five things that she did to overcome her disorder with PTSD.

  1. Get your spiritual house in order and forgive yourself for your sins
  2. Declare your emotional independence from toxic friends and relatives in your life.  Move if you have to.
  3. Get expert medical help and peer support
  4. Get a hobby, use your creativity, go to school or get a job.  Do something
  5. Get fit and learn to sit back and enjoy life.  She points out “happiness is a learned skill”.

If your suffering with PTSD, or are close to someone that has it, this book chronicles the long journey one can take over the period of a lifetime before getting a diagnosis and what some of the causes are to get PTSD in the first place.  A great book for those needing to relate to PTSD, and the unique emotional, personal and psychological journey one sometimes has to take as Ms. Satterfield did to come to terms with their own diagnosis.  A must read for those needing to relate to PTSD and understand its inner workings.

The Omega Chronicles

BOOK TITLE:  The Omega Chronicles

AUTHOR:  Mark Carnelley

REVIEW:  The Omega Chronicles is a fascinating book about life after the destruction of Earth from a enormous dust cloud originally discovered by scientists in 1962.  Thought only to be a blip on the radar, 55 years later, This speck of dust hits the earth with fury covering it in an enormous cloud, killing almost everything on it.  One man survives, and this book chronicles his life, as a pilot, in Antartica seeing the aftermath and destruction of earth as he knew it.  This story tells of his travels, to get to the Northwest Territories, a place he can call home.  It charts all of the devastation he sees along the way;  All the bodies of tragic lives lost, in city after city and the drastic effect it has on him emotionally, being the only surviving being.  He finally arrives at the Northwest Territories, where he builds a home for himself.  A primitive log cabin, and all the supplies he needs, from nearby empty storefronts.

What makes this story a must read, is the creativity of the Author, Mark Carnelley in thinking up all logical aspects of an aftermath of death of the earth and one life remaining.  He uses so much logic to show the afterlife of this tragedy, and so much emotion, to show how it would affect one man, should he remain in our day and time.  Mark Carnelley tells a story that one cannot put down once they start reading it, from the perspective of one character throughout the book, chronicling his life in his mid sixties, when he finally dies.  Prior to his death, he watches as Mother Nature brings life back slowly;  the trees, fish and birds, and grass and he is even able to grow crops.  He continues to look for bears, but does not see them during his lifetime, and ironically, it is bears that find his body after death.

The book ends with one last surprise.  A must read for any  kind of reader.  I found, I could not put it down once picking it up.  Mark Carnelley does an amazing job at painting a post apocalyptic life through the lifetime of a grown man and all the devastation he sees during his lifetime.

Two Princes and a Princess Visit the Wild Wild West

BOOK TITLE: Two Princes and a Princess Visit the Wild Wild West

AUTHOR: Jaqueline Mead

REVIEW:  This is a wonderful children’s book inspired by the author’s own children!  Prince Simon, Prince Jason, and  Princess Sophie live a regal life slaying dragons and battling witches by day, and monsters and beasts by night.

One day, they decide to visit the Wild Wild West, through their wardrobe closet, traveling horseback..  They meet Crazy Horse and Indians.  Next, they meet Wild Bill Hicock who shows them around the Wild, Wild West.  Wild Bill Hicock shows them around town, and takes the children to the Post Office, and they go inside and meet the post mistress.

Wild Bill then takes the children to the Blacksmiths who, if they are lucky will see how a horse is shoed.  The children watch quietly after meeting the Blacksmith who puts new shoes on their horses.  Wild Bill is the tour guide throughout their journey and next, accompanies them to a rodeo where they get to see cowboys riding their horses and using their lassoes.

Wild Bill informs them, if they are lucky, perhaps they will get a chance to ride with lassoes as well.  The children watch the rodeo in silence. After the rodeo, Wild Bill sets up plans for the children to have some lunch at his ranch.  He then accompanies them to the ranch where they ride around with their horses and try their hand at lassos. Finally, Wild Bill shows them some tricks with his own lasso and informs them it is the end of their day.  The children say goodbye, sad their day has ended climbing back in the wardrobe, setting their destination for home.

They travel back in the sky and through the roof and through their wardrobe closet, just in time and very soon, the wardrobe lands safely on the floor.  They head straight for the kitchen rubbing their tummy, hungry.

Their mommy has been looking for Prince Simon to study for his test the next day about the Wild West!  He assures his mommy he doesn’t need to study because he knows and he has seen it all.

This story is a must read for any child needing a book to stimulate their imagination.  Jacqueline Mead has done an amazing job with rhyming the lines of the book so it flows smoothly for any child reading.  The story is creative and fascinating from a children’s perspective, with cute illustrations on each page.  A child has the ability to actually visualize this tale, and enjoy it from a child’s perspective.

Anyone who needs to purchase a book for a child to read, would be remiss if they didn’t purchase this book.
