Life on the Lily Pad
___________________________________________
Just sitting here on my lily pad in the warmth of the high noon sun
Life is good for this old toad, living here on this lily pad sitting in green scum
Algae and bugs to eat, oh what an easy life for me
As I sit all day long under a canopy of clinging leaves, greenish-yellow hue that hangs from this old tree
An old Weeping willow with twisted arms reaching down to the bank as if to reach out for a drink
This old tree shades a good portion of the lake
As I sit here contemplating what next to eat
One will see upon the lake all kinds of life
Ducks and geese a turtle too, all say how do you do, as they float by on a lazy trip around the pond
It is so nice to see the beauty that can be
When there is no man to ruin this tranquil piece of earth
Humans think they can do what they want without regard for the consequences
It’s so nice to sit on this lily pad and see the world as it should be
My only wish is that mankind learns to appreciate the beauty that there is and not to think to change it
