The Clock is Ticking

by: Guildford Windley

The clock is ticking

September is in the waning
Soft warm September days
Give way
To the autumn of the year
The breeze is just a bit cooler
A chill is in the air
As the leaves start to fall
From trees that now show autumn colors
Of various shades of red, yellow, purple
There in the silhouettes of trees
There you will find more colors
Black, orange, pink, magenta, blue and brown
A host of color to brighten the autumn day
The darkness of the day comes faster
As each day slip away
October is on the rise
With a whisper
Of the end of warm days
Soon the fall does fade
To those long cold winter nights
That we all do dread
But until that first winter snow
There is time
To share the evening glow
Of party with
As family and friends gather
Under the outdoors lights
Hanging from boughs of trees
A pumpkin or two with silly grins
Are placed strategically
For all to see
The treats will be plenty
On that hallow eve
There will be lots of children laughter
Happiness and good cheer
As the stories of hauntings
Bring about a good scare
We gather at the fire
To spend this precious time
For with each passing of the year
Our life is slipping by
That cold long winter is coming
The Clock is ticking
It won’t be denied!
