Mar'Kata Rhaimes

Mar'Kata Rhaimes holds a Computer Science (BSc) degree from Makerere University (Kampala - Uganda). He's the self-published author of one of the newest poetry collections on the market, titled "Voices Of May". In 2018, he co-authored and was the main editor of a Bible fun-fact book titled "God Is Humorous", written by Henry Waisswa Ntende (a lawyer, pastor and team leader at The Worship House, Nansana - Kampala, Uganda). Mar'Kata Rhaimes also co-authored with 7 other writers in a poetry-and-prose anthology titled "The River Banks", published in Kampala - Uganda, under a writers' initiative called PENit, in August 2016. He's since featured on several performance-poetry and youth event platforms in and around Kampala. He's been performing spoken word poetry, primarily in church, under different poetry groups like PENit Writers' Initiative, Ladu Poetry, The Word Smiths Poetry UG, The Brush, and currently Engelo420. Lately he started attempting to add motivational speaking, song writing and music recording onto his literary career. When his glare is not stuck onto a laptop or smartphone screen, he's either hanging out with old friends and/or acquaintances, laughing at another silly joke crafted or narrated by one of his 2 young brothers, melting off a long week's heavy heart with a Friday-evening 10km-run, fantasizing about the future or his secret crush(es), or just quietly figuring out what to do next. He also enjoys watching fellow poets perform their craft on stage, motivational videos/movies and TED Talks. He'd fall for any sentimental song without minding what genre it actually falls under. Often times also, he finds himself very curious about Ethical Hacking, Aviation and Navy Seal training.

You That I Met

It was you that I met, at the very time when everything seemed to have been lost.
It was you that I met, at that moment when I thought I had to hate myself the most.
It was you that I met, when I thought I had prematurely reached my life’s very end.
It was you that I met, when this life had creased me beyond the kind of child that anyone could pitifully pledge to defend
It was you that I met, and somehow everything about me eventually changed.
It was you that I met, and all my life automatically was rearranged.

It was you that I met, and all my fears were ultimately estranged.
It was you that I met, and all the miseries of my heart, for love at first sight were exchanged.
I had always been around with you, but for some reason, the two of us had never really met!
Right now, it makes sense that I was wrong to believe that what you actually see is exactly what you get.
Because at the very time when all I saw around me was a ruthless outrage of pain and hate,
That’s when you showed up, and my hope to love again was automatically re-set;
Now I’m stronger, am wiser, am nursing colorful butterflies; all just because it was you that I met.
