A Nation at a Crossroad

by: Guildford Windley

A Nation at a Crossroad
In the misty darkness of the night
As I lay in the security of my warm safe bed
I lie there looking at the shadows that dance upon the walls
From the light that shines brightly through my bedroom window
Yes the light from the street lamp that’s below my windowsill
In my state of mind; foreboding I’m I
The fear that streams through my mind
Of impending disasters; from a government that has no heart
In their righteous state, we will share the fate of those who are pawns
To a political game
The powers that exist hidden behind the mask of concerned citizens, but we know not their names, so to keep the people blind
The puppets that we see held in power by those other full of greed
Laws that will be put in place and those that judges will erase
All laid out in a plan to change the face of this here land
Using tactics to deceive, causing hate to rise
Divide us one and all is their plan
For just a few will take control
To hold up high a court that will do their bidding
As we watch our freedoms slip away!
