A Tall Ship upon the Sea

by: Guildford Windley

A Tall ship upon the Sea

In the bay, there she sits
A tall ship, a barquentine rigged and ready
Out to the ocean I must sail
This dry land is not for me
For I need to feel the movement
Of a ship upon the sea
The bellowing of the sails
As you head into the wind
The splashing of the water
As the bow cuts through the sea
Waves crashing
Sending the foaming water onto the deck
The wind a howling
As we tack
A tall ship heeling in the wind
Three mast does she have
A square rigger
Five yards high
Her canvas filled with the wind
Through the emerald green
Of the open sea
That’s the life for me
To go where the wind will take me
A deck of hardwood
For me to stand on
The stars to guide me
Riding hard through the waves
Dolphins to the port
Gulls on the starboard
To my back the wind and the wake!
