What is calmness?  Let us take a look at the meaning of calmness in our Webster Dictionary:

Calmness-1.  The state or quality of being free from agitation or strong emotion.  2.  the state or condition of being free from disturbance or violent activity

Daily Wisdom Word definition of Calmness-1.  the state of the mind and body, physically, emotionally, and psychologically, of ease with each of these.  The ability to be able to calm yourself.

If your like me, one of the hardest things to do, is to get yourself in a position to be completely calm and stable.   With all of life’s ups and downs, and each day and the hectic nature of it, I find it hard to relax depending on just how stressful my day was.  Most people would look at my life, and wonder what I have to be stressed about.

I write from home, have a volunteer position with daily wisdom words, but still I find it stressful and lacking in calmness.  I have to find ways to nurture myself into this state of mind.  One of the ways I do this, is through my writing.  I also can maintain a semblance of being calm with meditation.  I use a counting backwards technique to fall asleep.  As you can see, I would not need all these therapy techniques from the stress of a day if I were a calm person to begin with.

The following, are suggestions for adding a dash of calmness to your life when you need a little extra!

  1.  Exercise-there is nothing like a good, hard workout to calm yourself down.  Exercise produces endorphins which in and of itself provides relaxation and calming techniques.
  2.  Try meditation.  I myself, am working on it, but it takes a while to work up your time to do completely nothing but stay still for a while.
  3. try journaling.  Simply set down with a notepad and write down whatever comes to mind.  this has proven to be very effective for me, but we all are different so use the suggestions that seem best suited for your personality.
  4.  When trying to go to sleep, if your having trouble, try counting backwards.  This really does work for me.  I use it every night.
