Picture Prompt- Human and Shadows

Have you ever seen a man or woman without a shadow? Some people will arguably tell you yes but is it naturally true for someone not to possess or own shadow?

I have been made to believe that one’s shadow has something to do with the supernatural. Hence, a man who’s shadowless is either soulless or dead.

There are many wonders of nature especially that which is related to man. The awesome science behind a man’s shadow is amazing. One thing that sweeps me off my feet is that it takes just a considerable amount of light and darkness to cast a shadow.

INNER-SELF “THE VOICE WITHIN”

We all have an inner-self, that has a dialogue all by itself.  We have an inner-self that is a part of who we are, and will always be speaking your mind.  However, if you are not aware of this, there are several issues that occur.

If we go through life either ignoring that voice or not listening to it, we’ll never be at one with our inner selves. Our instinctive emotions are really powerful and if we ignore them, we may never feel at peace. They

I can sum up most of this in one sentence. “You will always wonder who you are, what your purpose is, and if you have a destiny at all.”

Our inner voices guide us in finding answers to all those questions. And if not definitive answers, at the very least they help us navigate the paths to those answers.

So never ignore your inner voice.

ART AND LOVE

-s1cykw.jpg

Before I say anything here I’d want to to say sorry for coming up late for the prompt today. Today was freaking busy. But the good thing is that I am here.

So, the story behind the words in the title today is quite simple. You all know I love art, right? Something rekindled the reason I love art yesterday.

While skimming through contents on Facebook I discovered another form of art that is quite different from what I have ever seen, a paper sculpture. It is best you stick around because you’d want to see what I am talking about.

Guess what! Just so you can see this amazing art for yourself on Daily Wisdom Words, I invited the brains behind it on our podcast and he has agreed to be on the show. Awesome, right?

CONVERSION “WHAT IS THIS AND IS IT LEGAL?”

Our Daily Wisdom Word today is conversion.  Conversion is controversial to say the least.  Some parents cannot accept the sexual preference their child is when they find out their child is “gay”.  Conversion is a form of therapy used as a tool to revert their child to their assigned birth sex and is still legal in some states.  As of the date of this post, 22 states still have no laws preventing “conversion or reparative therapy”.

How does conversion or reparative therapy work?

Conversion therapy is usually used when a family is part of a religious organization that does not accept a teenager or child’s  sexual preference he or she identifies with.   To be attracted to same-sex individuals is a violation of the religious beliefs of the parents enforced by their church or religious organization for a teen to be homosexual.   I think it is important to note that the “American Psychiatric Association” opposes any psychiatric treatment used in an attempt to change an underaged individuals sexual orientation”.  Religious organizations who do not accept homosexuality uses questionable practices that treat homosexuality as a mental disorder.  Practitioners who work to change sexual orientation through therapy to be unethical.  Now there are federal laws in place making it illegal to use some of the methods to change a child’s sexual orientation.  In the past, the United States and Western Europe have allowed these practitioners to use “ice-pick lobotomies, chemical castrations, and hormonal therapies. In the past, there were no laws preventing these kind of practices which also includes electroshock therapy to the hands and genitals. A term coined as masturbatory reconditioning has also been used in many programs religious organizations such as fundamentalist Christian groups.  To date, none of these therapies are shown to be in any way, effective in changing a person’s sexuality. In 2018, the European parliament banned conversion therapy practices in a majority vote of 435 to 109 for banning this kind of therapy and urged European Union members to pass the same law preventing this kind of therapy.  There are many other countries who are without laws including the United Kingdom to outlaw conversion therapy.

As mentioned above, 22 states in the United States of America still have NO laws stopping or outlawing conversion therapy.  You might find it interesting to know the past history of conversion therapy which started by Sigmund Freud who claimed he could change one’s sexuality to be “normal” through psychoanalysis.  The first edition of the Psychological manual created in 1952 by the diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Psychiatry, (DSM-1) considered homosexuality to be a mental disorder.   In 1987, the DSM-3 was published removing homosexuality as a “mental disorder”.

Research shows today according to the American Psychiatric Association that reparative therapy is ineffective in changing one’s sexuality.  Medical treatments are also shown to be ineffective in a study done in 2016.  There is more and more repulsion of the practices medically and psychologically from leading medical experts and psychological efforts to change one’s sexual identity.  This became more public when a Jewish organization based in New Jersey, (JONAH), used practices called “unconscionable”.  Despite this, Conversion therapy continues to practiced today which often includes methods to change an individuals seuality in ways mentioned above.

In my opinion, parents, should not be parents if they are presented with the sexual orientation of their child, and they cannot accept their own child as he/she is.  I do not believe they should be parents if they cannot accept the characteristics of their child’s sexuality.  They are forgetting the child already struggles with societies opinion of themselves.  Being a parent means accepting our child as they are despite our personal beliefs, especially with current research clearly stating these kinds of therapies are ineffective.  We must not forget as parents we have the blessing of this individual being our child, and we need to as the very least, accept our children as they are and love them because of this difference, not in spite of their differences no matter what these differences are provided it does not physically or psychologically cause harm to others.

So damn high in

low esteem I see

truly they mean.

People say “let’s

INTERNALIZING “DO YOU DO THIS?”

Our Daily Wisdom Word today is “internalization.”  Do you find yourself feeling responsible for everything that goes wrong in your world?   If this is taken to an extreme, it is internalizing.  Let us take a look at the definition of internalizing in the dictionary and the daily wisdom words definition.

Webster definition of internalizing- 1.  make attitudes of behavior by learning part of one’s learning or unconscious assimilation

Daily Wisdom Word definition of internalization-1.  to take responsibility for all things and internalize, and often blame ourselves for, even when logically, we know it is not within our power to control the event or happening.

Oftentimes when something happens, we blame ourselves.  This is a form of our daily wisdom word today, internalizing.  It is easy to internalize and it is a normal feeling we all have when we are under an illusion we control “things” which many of us believe.  Can we make a plan?  Yes, we can, but do we control the outcome of the plan from external events?  If we believe we do, and to the degree we believe it, is what determines a normal amount of internalizing, or being a control addict.

For one thing, no matter how well we make a plan, we simply can’t control what happens in this world twenty four hours a day, and seven days a week  and this includes the weather, and energy from others and the actions they choose to take.   Have you ever tried to give orders to a strong willed young child?  Since my children are grown, I will use my grandson, Graham as an example.  If he is ordered to do something with not explanation, (by this way he inherited this quality from his mother), he will more often than not decide to keep doing whatever he has been told not to do.

However, with a little psychology, bending down to his eye level and explaining why he cannot do something helps so much.  You see, sometimes we don’t control but guide certain personality types such as strong willed children.  Let’s take this a step further.  Graham just turned three years old.  If my daughter were to “internalize” even her three year old’s behavior, all of the time, she would be thinking, “Graham misbehaved.  This is my fault because I am his parent and I am the problem, he is the outcome.  This is internalizing and blaming ourselves often for everything, even those things out of our control. This  type of internalizing is extreme and creating low self-esteem, logically could not be true, and no benefit to Graham  or his mother. When we believe his perceived behavior is in our hands this also causes us to feel like a bad parent by believing we are fully responsible for any way he behaves.  One last thing about internalizing.  Sometimes internalizing can work in the opposite way.  Sometimes, we may take credit or things we perhaps influenced thinking we have more power and control than we actually do.  This is internalizing as well.  Our power to control others is often illusion.  We may influence them, and we may guide them, but ultimately a fellow adult makes their own decision.  Thanks so much for reading about internalization today.   Samantha

STARING “HAS A STRANGER EVER STARED AT YOU?”

It happens all of the time.  Perhaps we are on an elevator or airplane, but someone occasionally will stare at you.  It feels uncomfortable, strange, and weird as we wonder if we are supposed to somehow know this person.  Our daily wisdom word today is staring.

Let us look at the Webster and daily wisdom word definition of staring.

Webster definition of staring-1.  look fixedly or vacantly at someone or something with one’s eyes wide open.  2.  a long fixed or vacant look.  3.  eyes wide open, with a fixed or vacant expression.

Daily Wisdom Word definitional of staring-to look at someone making eye contact or focused on us which can feel uncomfortable, especially when it is a stranger staring at us.

Staring is considered rude.  Our mind also goes through a series of thoughts including but not limited to wondering if there is something strange about ourselves.  We also wonder, depending on the area the individual is staring at if we are supposed to know this person or have seen them before.  It is not only uncomfortable, but we also can feel fear.  Staring however, often happens for no reason at all.  The person staring at your shirt for example is deep in thought.  We perceive it depending on how aggressive it is as rude.

It makes it more difficult when we are sure we are not someone they know.  Perhaps it’s a member of the opposite sex who is staring and finds us attractive.  This also feels uncomfortable because we wonder if this person could be a stalker.  We forget, however that we probably have stared at someone who was in our line of vision who catches us off guard and this is uncomfortable most of the time for them.  I must admit, some people stand out and I have stared at a gorgeous man without meaning to do so.  It made them uncomfortable.

I went a wedding this weekend and watched as the bride and seven bridesmaids and two maid of honors, and seven groomsmen and two best men who were listening to the groom and  bride as they took vows. In this case we would expect the guests and bridal party to stare at the bride or groom as they repeated their vows to the minister after hearing him say, “repeat after me”.  Instead I saw one of the individuals, a part of the bride and grooms wedding party who was there to witness the couples love.  Instead I saw one of these individuals body language and eyes staring at the standing video camera and almost found myself laughing aloud since the camera was in the opposite direction of the minister and bridal party.

I think it would be normal to give a prolonged look at the camera but this went on for the majority of the vows  and ceremony . This individual was showing their best smile and of course had the whitest teeth, and would not stop “staring at the camera”.  I am sure when this video is played back, the bride and groom will get a kick out of this as it was rather funny to say the least.

When someone is staring at us it brings out many emotions and we wonder why they are staring too.  Is it because we have food on our face, something in our teeth, a stain on our shirt, or because they are just strange.  Despite this, staring seems to be part of the human element.  Avoid making eye contact back if the stare is unwanted.  Be sure to make eye contact back if it is a gorgeous man who you are enjoying the stare from.  I hope you find this post on staring perfect for your Friday. This happens to be somewhat humorous when one is staring at an intimate object such as a camera.  They need no more attention for this kind of staring from us!  Samantha

REMINISCING “A TRIP DOWN MEMORY LANE”

Ok Reminiscing is our daily wisdom word today.  Let’s start with the definition of the word in the dictionary and the daily wisdom word definition.

Dictionary meaning of reminiscing-indulge fondly memory of past events.

Daily Wisdom Word Meaning of reminiscing-Walking back into the past with melancholy, feeling memories fondly from the past.

I think reminiscing happens to all of us.  We hear an old song, smell a familiar pleasant smell or see something that reminds us of the past.  I spent my weekend walking down memory lane, seeing young women,  now grown including my daughter who once were little girls frequenting my home.

I felt a mixture of emotions as I watched Hayley now 30 years old, my daughter’s best friend since middle school, walk the aisle towards the love of her life.  Most of the bridal party on Hayley’s side were part of my daughter’s childhood crowd and friendships built alongside Hayley.

Hayley, who is my daughters best friend from childhood has always meant so much to me through the years and has been a part of our family.

I wondered when my daughter married eight years ago, relocating out of state to Idaho with her husband if their friendship would drift apart.  The friendship between my daughter Lauren and Hayley built on such a strong foundation, has only grown stronger over the years.  Hayley didn’t settle down until six years after Lauren married so not only were they at different junctures, but living in different states. They’ve each had challenges throughout the years that would cause many of the best friendships dissolve.  However, in this situation, their love and bonds continue to grow.

It was with great feeling and mixture of strong emotions, I attended Hayley’s wedding.  Like quick snapshots I remember her as a little girl as she walked past me as the bride of someone she loves so much. I saw her finally as the young grown woman she is now.  Hayley is a beautiful woman inside and out.  I thought back in time with such emotion, and without realizing it, as she walked the aisle passing me I felt many tears fall.  Where did all the years go?  How, with so many obstacles did my daughter and Hayley keep such a wonderful friendship?  They say a best friend is for life.  I guess in their case, they have proven it to be true.

As I listened to my daughter give her speech at the reception, sitting or surrounded with the  young grown women who once baked in my kitchen, giggling in Lauren’s room when they had sleepovers, seeing them every day or one of them at least, I felt sad but happy.  Reminiscing is sometimes melancholy,  with a mixture of happy and sad.  You wonder how the years have flown by.  You are filled with such deep sadness, happiness and a longing to go back in time. The wedding night will probably be the last time I see Lauren and all the old friends she and Hayley grew up with share for a long stretch of time.

Reminiscing is one of the most beautiful ways we recapture our memories.  It is through reminiscing, as my beautiful daughter, now a mother of two boys gets back on her plane to Idaho, with me in Denver I feel such longing to go back in time.

Life for me is so different now, and with great sadness I watched the weekend come and go.

I talked with all the girls who were part of a past gone. I shared time with these girls as well, and could see clearly who each one had become.  In their right, they each have made a success of their life and despite the paths they’ve taken, each of them still remain close.

I felt yesterday in last night all over again.  I saw my daughter walk by with Hayley’s little sister, now in her final year of college giggling on the way to the bathroom as the reception kicked off. I wondered if only for a moment if I really could or would go back in time if the option were available.  Then I look over to my left, and see my son and daughter-in-law who is so awesome.

My son lives in Denver with her and their four month old, my beautiful grandson.  I feel such love for them and they are a part of our daily life.  This reminds me that reminiscing is wonderful sometimes, but living in the present can be as well.

Thanks so much for reading about reminiscing today.  Share feedback with me beneath this post in the “join the discussion” area.  I love hearing from you and any experiences you’ve had reminiscing, or any comment or suggestion.  Samantha

DIVERSIONS

DIVERSIONS
by Samantha LeBoeuf

Our Daily Wisdom Word today is “diversions”.  Before going any further, I am going to give the Webster Dictionary meaning and daily wisdom words meaning.

The Webster meaning of Diversion-1.  An instance of turning aside something from its course.  2.  An activity that diverts the mind from tedious or serious concerns. (partial).

Daily Wisdom Word Meaning of Diversion: The habit we develop that can sometimes distract us from the course we need to stay on.

Have you ever found yourself in the middle of deep thought, and hear a noise?  You realize all you are hearing is the wind outside.  You try to go back to that deep thought process and can’t seem to return.  You have just been subject to a diversion.

Once your mind is distracted by a diversion, it is difficult to remember the very last thought you had prior to hearing the outside noise.

Often times this happens to me, when I lose my train of thought.  Is it the distraction that causes my mind to lose my train of thought?  Most likely, but more likely to be a distraction because you were not in a deep enough thought state.

This is why many of us meditate, so we can learn to relax naturally.

Meditation is a form of disciplining our minds and ability to stay on one thought, following it through.  Had you been in deep enough thought the wind would not have been a diversion from your thoughts.  We must learn to be vigilant with our thoughts and stick to the thought process we are in, especially if it leading somewhere helping you solve a problem.

Diversions can literally be a roadblock.  It can also be  a word we use to describe our mental state being easily distracted.  It is hard to stay focused on a similar thought process without getting distracted if we have an overactive mind.

This is why in order to avoid diversions, you must become vigilant when you get distracted in returning to the same line of thought leading you to some of the best ideas and solutions your own mind can create.

In order to be vigilant with our thought process, one tool we can use to be focused is journaling.  With meditation and journaling and much patience, the brilliant thoughts you were having will be part of training your mind to be strong.  It also helps with depression and sadness.

When we are aware of a particular thought process we can stop, or start it depending if we wish to be vigilant with those thoughts or steer ourselves into a whole new line of thinking if dwelling on something is past the point it should be.  Knowing yourself and your thoughts are two of the most powerful things you can have as tools to be a writer looking at a specific thought process and carrying those thoughts through on paper avoiding writer’s block all together over time.

What does diversion mean to you? Share your thoughts and experiences in the comment section below.

Thanks so much for reading today, Samantha
