CUSTOMS

What are customs?  What kind of customs do you and your family or group have?  Let us first take a look at the definition of customs in our Webster Dictionary.

Customs-1.  a traditional and widely accepted way of behaving or doing something that is specific to a particular society place or time.  2.  A thing that one does habitually.

Daily Wisdom Word Meaning of Customs-1.  A traditional way that a family or group or individual behaves that is a customary habit pattern.

Customs, the definition I am referring to are unique and fun.  For instance, in my family, we have a custom of decorating the Christmas Tree, drinking hot chocolate and listening to holiday music three weeks before Christmas.  We have a traditional custom of going to Church on Christmas Eve, and then going over to my mother’s home for hors d’oeuvres.  On Christmas day, we enjoy opening gifts, and have a tradition of a big breakfast afterward.  We also have a dinner, of either turkey or ham for dinner, and then Christmas is over.

Customs and traditions, in my opinion are important and meaningful.  It is a way of life and something that young children can come to expect each and every year.  They have meant so much to my children as they have grown up, and I pray they take with them these customs and traditions and carry them out through their family and so forth, my grandchildren’s family.

Customs can also mean a certain way a society behaves that is traditional for them, and it can also be about religion or religious traditions.  However, when I think of customs I go back to the same definition.  I remember with my children from ten on, creating bake night, a week or so before Christmas where all of their friends would come over and we would literally destroy the kitchen making 6 or 7 recipes with approximately twenty people in the kitchen at the same time.

Customs and traditions are a very important part of having a family and a certain set of expectations children can come to know and enjoy.  Share the love with your family by creating your own certain traditions and customs.  It will mean the world to your family looking back on them.

Thank you so much for reading about customs today and may you have a blessed and beautiful day.
