JUST A GIRL BY GRACE DAVIES

LYRICS

I been running out of patience
Playing way above my station
I must’ve forgot my place and got confused again
‘Cause I been thinking for myself, see
Standing up on my own two feet
But people really wanna shoot me down, d-down again

Oh, I know what they say
Honey, I should be afraid
‘Cause I’m just a girl, I’m just a girl
Got a brain and got a voice
I should leave it to the boys
‘Cause I’m just a girl, I’m just a girl
But I won’t be quiet, I’m gonna breathe fire
Oh, you’re never gonna drown me out
Never gonna push me down
So it’s time for a change
‘Cause you’ll never hear me say that
I’m just a girl, I’m just a girl, yeah

Sick of being told I’m bossy
‘Cause I won’t let nobody boss me
People need to smell that coffee
And put the past to bed
See, ladies need to be united
It ain’t about who comes out highest
They only wanna see us divided
To knock us down again

Oh, I know what they say
Honey, I should be afraid
‘Cause I’m just a girl, I’m just a girl
Got a brain and got a voice
I should leave it to the boys
‘Cause I’m just a girl, I’m just a girl
But I won’t be quiet, I’m gonna breathe fire
Oh, you’re never gonna drown me out
Never gonna push me down
So it’s time for a change
‘Cause you’ll never hear me say that
I’m just a girl, I’m just a girl, yeah

No, I don’t need nobody here holding my hand
Sing it loud if you understand
I promise that
Oh, I will be, no, nothing but I filter myself
I will do me, nothing else

Oh, I know what they say
Honey, I should be afraid
‘Cause I’m just a girl, I’m just a girl
Got a brain and got a voice
I should leave it to the boys
‘Cause I’m just a girl, I’m just a girl
But I won’t be quiet, I’m gonna breathe fire
Oh, you’re never gonna drown me out
Never gonna push me down
So it’s time for a change
‘Cause you’ll never hear me say that
I’m just a girl, I’m just a girl, yeah

  1. I’m just a girl
    I’m down on my knees
    Scrubbing the floor
    And whatever you please
(and Ladies . . . you know what I mean)
    I’m just a girl
Doing dishes and the clean up
    And all your stinkin’ laundry
    And thank you, Honey,
While I’m working my ass off
    It just means the world
When you say you’re “fond of me”
    (and yes, I’m speaking sarcastically)
    I’m just a girl
So, you walked on the wet floor
When I told you to wait
You are gonna have to step
    The hell up
‘cuz this is turning to hate
(Shoulda got me a woman to date)
    (She’d pull her weight)
    I’m just a girl
So, I’ll pick up the kids
    And while I’m at it
Might as well stop at the vet
But when I’m puttin’ on my nightie
Don’t you dare give me the look
To see what you can get
    You’re pissing me off and
I’m eyeing the Henckels and Wusthof sets
    (I’m just kidding)
(Don’t even know where that came from)
    I’m just a girl
    And the Bible tells me
    God hates women
    And they’re always at fault
    “Try this apple”
    And in YOUR weakness,
    You’re caught,
    But I’m to blame
But to God and all the other men
To me, it’s not a game
I have to live like this
    Cuz I’m just a girl

  2. I am a woman.
    I have an amazing bod.
    Resilient as they come,
    Pain threshold through the roof.
    But, please, Mister, please
    Don’t expect a perfection
That you don’t expect from self.
    Sometimes we ladies goof
But please, Sir, jut shut up
    And close your mouth.

  3. Petals fall on
    mislaid thoughts
    belittled in shame
    mistakes has left
    a residue of pain
    no more cowardice tears
    slumber this madness
    away in yesterday fears
    love burns entramelled
    with spirited fire
    joyfull strokes of change
    melts my rage
    soothing gently falls the rain.

  4. I’m more
    than just
    a girl
    I have a
    voice you
    haven’t even
    heard
    Don’t push
    me around
    I”ll use
    my power to
    scream & shout
    I have a choice
    to be anyone
    I want to be
    Because I’m
    Not just a girl

  5. Welcome to my world
It seems one of no respect
Now I don’t want any conflict
    I’m just a girl
I want a man who’ll treat me right
Put on a pedestal each night
    I’m just a girl
A bad girl who wants a man to show me off
    To shower me with gifts
