Deception

“Deception” is
Indeed a slippery word,
Its definition depending
Upon its perception,
Meaning one thing
If it’s seen and
Quite another if
It’s heard.
Your understanding eye
Believes it sees “to deceive”
But your ear does not lie
When it receives to “de-sieve.”
To “de-sieve” is to blend
Together, to recombine the
Discrete bits of a broken
Whole and, in so doing, let
That which was shattered,
Dismantled and scattered,
Reunite and begin to mend.
So, after that rambling amble,
Perhaps ‘tis time to
Ask whether “deception”
Might not, as a word,
Be due a more positive
Reception?
