Discrimination

DISCRIMINATION Discrimination is sad and yet it happens to us all at some point in our lives or another. Discrimination is hurtful and unkind so why does it happen so often?   Let us first take a look at the meaning of discrimination is our Webster Dictionary. Discrimination-1. Distinguish; differentiate. 2. to make a difference in treatment on the basis other than individual merit   Daily Wisdom Word Meaning-Discrimination 1. To treat others differently or less favorable because of individual characteristics they are either being unkind about or are jealous of.   Discrimination is unfair and cruel so let’s try to understand it better and look at the reasons why people might discriminate. Some people are just unkind. They don’t like themselves so they decide to pick on others based on the color of their skin, because they are a woman, not a man, or because they can’t do something the other party is capable of doing, or because they are jealous of the individual they are discriminating against.   Why do some people discriminate and others don’t? The bottom line is some of us are more caring and kind than other people, or the people discriminating are jealous of the other individual. There are many reasons, and some of them is all we have time to go into today or I could write all day on this subject because it happens so often.   Let us use one example such as women getting paid less than men for doing the same job. How does that make any logical sense? It doesn’t but in a world that is supposed to be getting more modern and open-minded it still does and this has been happening for 100’s of years.   How about another example of discrimination? One very common way others can discriminate against others is for the color of their skin. This, by the way, goes both ways. Some Caucasian individuals judge African Americans for being black, or Hispanic or any skin color and they have no right to do so. The bible written so many thousands of years ago makes it plain and clear that God created all of us to be equal yet so many thousands of years later, this is still going on. We are treating other individuals differently based on differences they have making them less like us, not less than us.   Discrimination is an ugly thing and we should stop and think of ways we can stop it from happening to ourselves and others and take action or nothing in this world will ever change in regards to discrimination.   Thank you for reading and have a blessed and warm day.   Samantha Leboeuf Community Leader
