STILL THE ONE BY ORLEANS

LYRICS
We’ve been together since way back when
Sometimes I never want to see you again
But I want you to know, after all these years
You’re still the one I want whisperin’ in my ear
You’re still the one I want to talk to in bed
Still the one that turns my head
We’re still having fun, and you’re still the one
I looked at your face every day
But I never saw it ’til I went away
When winter came, I just wanted to go
Deep in the desert, I longed for the snow
You’re still the one that makes me laugh
Still the one that’s my better half
We’re still having fun, and you’re still the one
You’re still the one that makes me strong
Still the one I want to take along
We’re still having fun, and you’re still the one
Changing, our love it comes and goes
Even though we grow, it grows too
You’re still the one that I love to touch
Still the one and I can’t get enough
We’re still having fun, and you’re still the one
You’re still the one who can scratch my itch
Still the one that I wouldn’t switch
We’re still having fun, and you’re still the one
You are still the one that makes me shout
Still the one that I dream about
We’re still having fun, and you’re still the one…
You’re still the one
Yeah, still the one
We’re still having fun
And you’re still the one
Yes you are

  1. You’re still the one
The only one I have ever wanted
    14 years off and on
I thought I was done with you
    But I was wrong
    11 years apart
Now I am living in your house
    At first I thought
    ‘Wow, this is wild’
    Now, I am scared
    Isn’t it inevitable?
    I’m gonna ‘f ‘this up?
    Ruin everything?
Because that’s what I always do
    My destiny
    Please Jesus
I don’t want to ruin it
    This really matters
    This time
    You see that, right?
    And now,
    I don’t even know
Is this where I’m s’posed to be
    Or not?
    If you don’t tell me
    I’m never gonna know

    • Whoah… Laurel, this is prosaic and poetic. Felt everything you expressed in the poem.
I’d like to draw your attention to DWW Poetry Contest. $200 for winner. You should enter the contest now.
I’m saying this because you’re a good poet and your poems have this different feel. Please consider it.

  2. your billet- doux
    blossom hitherto
    infectiously comforted
    fragrance my soul..

    Hummingbirds fly
    in my furloughed mind
    Seasoned love
    fawns on my lawn..

    Summery notes infuse
    wonderment of exotic mood
    you’re still my tender fool
    lipsing my heart’s sweet desire.

  3. We’re stuck in time’s amber
    trading places in the night
    slowing our pace
    switching pleasure & pain.

    Seasons fade yet time persists
deep in your eyes I fall
    spanking my look you laugh
no mercy you take us home.

    Dreams find our fun
    silhouetting these passions
    days make us over
    will you take me again?

  4. Winters come
    Summers go
    Life’s a race
    Yet paradoxically slow
    U’re my lover
    Yet also my foe
    & while I may love u
    I also hate u so
    I don’t understand
    This hellish paradigm
    Being loved by u
    Feels like a crime
    We are two sides
    Of the same damn coin
    Like oil & water
    Unnaturally joined

  5. I haven’t been writing poems for a while cos of a novel i’m currently working on but i’ll definitely write something because of the song…I hope it suffice.

    In silence i know
    you have learnt
    you’re still the one.

    In my unworded words
    i know you know
    you’re still the one.

    Time told me
    when i slept alone

    Time told me
    when your face was far.
