LABELS

What do Labels mean today, and is the Webster definition of them?

Webster Dictionary Meaning: Labels-1. a small piece off paper, fabric, plastic or similar material attached to an object giving information about it. 2. the piece of paper in the center of a phonograph recording giving the artist and the title.

Daily Wisdom Word Meaning: Labels-1. A name attached to objects to describe them and people as well.

Labels seem to be attached to all of us. Labels are names we use when we describe others, but sometimes labels can also be about judgement. Labels are part of today’s culture. “She is sad, angry, mad, rude, etc. We get so caught up in these labels, that we don’t take the time to look behind who the person is we are labeling.

Labels are sometimes simply adjectives, however, again, there is a person attached to the other end of them when we are using them. Labels have been difficult for me through my life and I have had them attached to me just as sure as if I were the front of a can of soup and its ingredients.

In middle school, I was labeled the weird girl, and I carry the scars of that label with me today. Labels can hurt us and leave never ending scars. It is very important for all of us to remember this. Labels should be used less, and not judging another more. Food for thought for all of us.

Have labels affected your life, and in what regard? I love comments and would sure love to hear what others have to say about this unique daily wisdom word. Have labels hurt you as well?

Labels often get used to cut others down instead of build them up. Labels, if we are going to use them, should be used to describe objects as stated in the Webster Definition meaning. Labels can leave scars for life, so we should think more before we speak them into existence. Once thrown out there, a label to an individual can stick, just as it does on a can of beans or mixed green beans for example.

Think twice before labeling others and remember what it feels like when you have been labeled in the past. This is also a very sensitive daily wisdom word, and one we should when using to describe another, proceed with caution.

I look forward to your poems on labels today, as well as your comments.

Thank you. It’s something I’ve been wanting to write for a while. Most poems are too long for Twitter. It’s great that we have so many avenues for our work now.

Labels

“Faggot!” They would yell.
Punch and kick me till I fell.
Because the field wasn’t my stage,
I chose theater and the page.

“Dork!” Or even “Nerd!”
‘Cause I wasn’t in the herd.
I escaped to the arcade,
Didn’t like the games they played.

The ladies called me “Nice guy.”
Then wouldn’t give me a try.
Why prefer a liar and cheat,
Over the sensitive and sweet?

Lucky enough to now be “Boss.”
My people are more than labor cost.
I need for them to trust their leader,
Some supervisors are a deceiver.

And now a princess calls me ”Dad.”
It’s the best label I’ve ever had.
In most cases it’s a shame,
Called out by labels, not our name.

She stroked her aged wrist.
Number inked deep. History.
And wondered, what’s changed?
