Respect
How important is respect to you?
To me, it’s the foundation of every relationship be it spouses, romantic partners, friends, siblings, parents or anything else.
There are hundreds of love languages one could feel good about but without the other’s respect, it can feel quite hollow or perfunctory.
Hence I’m reminded of the classic song “R.E.S.P.E.C.T” by the queen of soul, Aretha Franklin, released in 1967.

Aretha’s context of the song was centered around prejudice & women’s rights but as you listen to this classic, you’ll see that the lyrics fit in any walk of life.
A lot of people may not know or may have forgotten that the original song was by soul and R&B singer Otis Redding. Later, Aretha and her team rewrote to make it more of a woman’s perspective.
How do you interpret the lyrics of the song? Do you feel they’re universal in almost any walk if life? What does respect mean to you personally?
Write down your thoughts by composing your own poem about it! I look forward to reading it and responding to it!
