These were the words first written by poet Thomas Carlyle when translating a proverb from ancient Egypt.
There are times when it’s advantageous to maintain silence and listen.
There are also times, particularly in this modern era, to not.
This is the age of the #MeToo era, the #IDONTMIND era, the teen hotline era.
This is an era in which silence is not encouraged when going through turbulent periods in our lives.
The help we seek during such distress cannot come unless we admit we need it.
So pick your spots. Don’t poke a bear you can’t fight. But don’t ignore it either.
