Being Yourself

I often wonder how often are we ourselves and how often do we put on masks so to speak? Sometimes, we may behave one at work (especially with seniors and supervisors), another way with our friends and another way with parents or grandparents. Sometimes it’s necessary. We obviously cannot always talk to our supervisors at work the way we do with friends even if we have an informal relationship with them. But more often than not, it’s important to have some aspect of our own personalities no matter who we interact with. There are two advantages to this.

• Firstly, we’ll keep our individuality alive and well.
• People who interact with you can trust you knowing you’re genuine.

Of course, it’s a give and take situation. If you tend to use a lot of four-letter words in your everyday conversation, you have to watch yourself in places like a church. But it doesn’t mean you have to change your personality. Different environments will call upon you to let out specific traits. Just make sure they truly come from within you.
