AMBIVERT ARE YOU ONE?

AMBIVERT ARE YOU ONE?

What does it mean to be an “ambivert”?  Until just recently, I had never heard this word, I am embarrassed to say.  However, now that I know what it means, I realize it applies to me. Ambiverts have both sides to them.  They are both extroverts and introverts depending on what situation and mood they are in.  To be an ambivert, is slightly uncommon.  Most personalities are categorized as either an introvert or an extrovert.   Let us take a look at the exact definition of an ambivert in our Webster Dictionary and our daily wisdom words definition.

Webster definition of ambivert-a person whose personality has a balance of extrovert and introvert features.

Daily Wisdom Words definition- A person who can be in social situations and be completely comfortable, or they can be alone, and enjoy it.

Ambiverts have a distinct advantage over extroverts and introverts. How does an ambiverts brain work?  Because their personality does not lean in a particular direction, they have an easier time adjusting and engaging appropriately to any social situation.

I would like to propose a question to you and it is one question I tried to answer but did so incorrectly, although it was my career for 25 years.  Who do you think makes a better salesperson?  Would you answer:  1.  introvert, 2. extrovert, 3. ambivert?  My answer was an extrovert.  Adam Grant of Wharton set out to study this phenomenon.  He was able to prove that extroverts were NOT the best salespeople calling the brain’s behavior introversion and extraversion.  The answer to the question is an ambivert.  They achieve greater sales productivity than introverts and extraverts do.  Ambiverts are able to express sufficient assertiveness and enthusiasm to persuade and close a sale.  Having the ability to listen, is part of what makes an incredible salesperson.  Ambiverts can exert themselves enough, but gauge when to back off and listen to a customer’s needs as well.  This makes an exceptional salesperson.

One out of nine people work in the sales industry so Grant’s research as well as psychologists interest in general disproved the common philosophy that extroverts were better salespeople.  What do you believe yourself to be?  As with any personality, all are unique.  However, I think it’s fair to say that if you are not one extreme or the other, you fall in the middle which places your personality into the ambivert category.

I love comments and am truly curious to see what category you feel you fall into.  Once you have picked, what you believe your personality to be, (extrovert, introvert, or ambivert, between a scale of 1-10 with then being the truest form of one of the three, what number to you give yourself in accuracy with one of these three personality types?  We are all unique and chances are we do have characteristics of all three.  When all is said and done, depending on how well you know yourself, you will be able to clearly answer these questions.

Thanks so much for reading about ambiverts today.  Since your in the DWW website, you should do yourself a favor and check our writing community out.  We offer live prompts to strengthen your writing and mental health counseling and articles so you remain mentally healthy.  After all, our writing skills, no matter if were a poet, and author, or songwriter, or any kind of aspiring writer, It all starts with your ability to create using your mind.  It is a $10 one time fee to join and it will be your first big step towards your writing goals, no matter whatever they may be.  Thanks,  Samantha LeBoeuf

A ver fine article here and a lot of food for thought. I think it is important for people to work on the weak side of their personality in orde to be more effective people in their particular callers calling. Introverts need to be friendlier and the extraverts need to be better listeners and stop talking so much. I pretty much fall into the latter category, but I also love my solitary introspective time as the times I can write. Thank you so much, Sam for another great article.
