Hey there dear readers,
You’ve read our articles. You’ve read our poetry. You follow us on Twitter, Instagram and/or Facebook. (God willing).
But do you really know us?
What does it mean to be an “ambivert”? Until just recently, I had never heard this word, I am embarrassed to say. However, now that I know what it means, I realize it applies to me. Ambiverts have both sides to them. They are both extroverts and introverts depending on what situation and mood they are in. To be an ambivert, is slightly uncommon. Most personalities are categorized as either an introvert or an extrovert. Let us take a look at the exact definition of an ambivert in our Webster Dictionary and our daily wisdom words definition.
Webster definition of ambivert-a person whose personality has a balance of extrovert and introvert features.
Daily Wisdom Words definition- A person who can be in social situations and be completely comfortable, or they can be alone, and enjoy it.
Ambiverts have a distinct advantage over extroverts and introverts. How does an ambiverts brain work? Because their personality does not lean in a particular direction, they have an easier time adjusting and engaging appropriately to any social situation.
I would like to propose a question to you and it is one question I tried to answer but did so incorrectly, although it was my career for 25 years. Who do you think makes a better salesperson? Would you answer: 1. introvert, 2. extrovert, 3. ambivert? My answer was an extrovert. Adam Grant of Wharton set out to study this phenomenon. He was able to prove that extroverts were NOT the best salespeople calling the brain’s behavior introversion and extraversion. The answer to the question is an ambivert. They achieve greater sales productivity than introverts and extraverts do. Ambiverts are able to express sufficient assertiveness and enthusiasm to persuade and close a sale. Having the ability to listen, is part of what makes an incredible salesperson. Ambiverts can exert themselves enough, but gauge when to back off and listen to a customer’s needs as well. This makes an exceptional salesperson.
One out of nine people work in the sales industry so Grant’s research as well as psychologists interest in general disproved the common philosophy that extroverts were better salespeople. What do you believe yourself to be? As with any personality, all are unique. However, I think it’s fair to say that if you are not one extreme or the other, you fall in the middle which places your personality into the ambivert category.
I love comments and am truly curious to see what category you feel you fall into. Once you have picked, what you believe your personality to be, (extrovert, introvert, or ambivert, between a scale of 1-10 with then being the truest form of one of the three, what number to you give yourself in accuracy with one of these three personality types? We are all unique and chances are we do have characteristics of all three. When all is said and done, depending on how well you know yourself, you will be able to clearly answer these questions.

What are our masks? Do we all have one? Let us first take a look at the definition of masks in our Webster Dictionary.
Masks-1. a covering for all or part of the face, worn as a disguise, or to amuse or terrify other people.
Daily Wisdom Words for masks-1. A disguise we all use to cover our emotions, thoughts or feelings to protect our heart or self from getting hurt.
Unfortunately, we all wear a mask at many points in our lives. When we first meet people, we put a guard up or wear a mask to cover the part of us we wish to protect. We wear masks to protect our emotions. We wear masks to protect our true identities. Why do we do this? We do this for trust reasons. We must feel safe when revealing ourselves to another, so these masks protect the layers of personality that we may not be proud of or don’t trust ;yet for another person to see.
Masks keep us safe, emotionally and psychologically. The fascinating thing about masks is we don’t know most of the time we are wearing one. Masks are worn to protect ourselves from revealing too much of who we are at one time.
I know when I first meet someone, as hard as I might try, I wear a partial mask to protect myself. I do this and am not even conscious I am doing it. The more intimidated I feel the larger and thicker my mask is. These “masks” generally come in different thicknesses and looks depending on which part of our personality we wish not to reveal or reveal.
Masks keep us safe, or so we think. Sometimes a perceptive individual can see through our mask. They are able to see who we really are and these tend to be the people who eventually we show our true self to.
Think about whether or not you wear a mask and how much happier you would be if you didn’t care so much what other people thought of you. The less we care what others think, the safer we feel not wearing our mask.
