What does hypocrisy mean, and do we know others who live under it? Let us first take a look at its meaning in our Webster dictionary.
Hypocrisy-1. The practice of claiming to have moral standards or beliefs to which one’s behavior does not conform; pretense . 2. the practice of professing beliefs, feelings or virtues that one does not hold or possess; falseness. 3. An act or instance of such falseness
Do we know people that live under the guise of hypocrisy? Chances are, we do. Have you ever met someone who claims to believe a certain way, but their actions show they live another? For example, someone who claims that not going to church is a sin, but they themselves don’t go to church?
The opposite of hypocrisy is authenticity. Authentic people are people who’s actions support their words and what they claim to believe in. A good example is a friend I used to have. She claimed to hate alcohol. She claimed she had never touched a drop of it in her life. Yet, one night, I was out, and happened to bump into her in a bar, drinking. I would say she was living under the guise of hypocrisy.
We have had Presidents in the past who have lived under the guise of hypocrisy. For example, Nixon and the Watergate investigation. He claimed to have nothing to do with it, and claimed he would never behave in such a manner. Yet, when the truth finally came out, he had plenty to do with it. In all reality, he was behind the whole thing.
Another example of hypocrisy is someone who claims to be an expert on something when they are not. I will be honest with you. I am struggling a little with this daily wisdom word, simply because it isn’t part of my daily vocabulary. I am simply going off the definition and finding life experiences to support its meaning. However, it is a word in our vocabulary, and chances are we either know someone or have met someone who lives under the guise of hypocrisy.
Hypocrisy is false. That is to say, the actions of an individual, don’t match who this person claims to be. A common career criminal who says he doesn’t steal, is a man living in hypocrisy. I think we all get the meaning of hypocrisy.
Today, when you write your poems and quotes or short stories, think of someone who’s actions don’t match their words. They are living under the guise of hypocrisy. Use this to write your words with so that you can not only know the meaning of hypocrisy, you can feel what it feels like to be a victim of it. We are not writers without some kind of passion or emotion and part of creating that is to identify with the word with passion and one cannot know passion without identifying with it in some manner.
Chances are, if your close to an individual living under the guise of hypocrisy, you’ve been hurt by the fact they don’t stand for what they believe in. This therefore, with you being an authentic individual hurt you, because you believed in what they were saying. People who practice hypocrisy are hypocritical. They say one thing and do another.
Thank you for reading about hypocrisy today. Have a beautiful and blessed day.
