SECRETS

Why do we need secrets and keep them?

Let us first take a look at the meaning of secrets in the Webster Dictionary-Secrets-1. Mystery. 2. hidden or concealed. 3. kept from personal knowledge

Daily Wisdom Word Meaning-Secrets-those things which we keep to ourselves and selected others because we do not want the information to be public knowledge.

Why do we keep secrets? Some secrets we have been asked to keep such as secrets friends or family ask us to keep that they know that might hurt another. Other times we keep secrets

to make ourselves less embarrassed of something.

Secrets can be necessary but they can also be damaging. Secrets are sometimes kept that should not be kept such as children keeping sexual abuse from a trusted elder. Secrets are best kept out in the open unless they are going to hurt someone. Secrets are sometimes more hurtful to the ones that keep them rather than the ones that tell them or ask them to be kept.

Secrets cannot be kept if they are hurting someone who is keeping them in a way of sexual abuse, emotional abuse etc. We all keep secrets for friends and family and some must be kept to avoid hurting others but the kind of secrets I am talking about now that should not be kept from others are those that hurt them.

How can you expose a secret you know should not be kept? The first thing you can do is to find a trusted friend who you can expose the secret to. Secondly, there are therapists, who you can go talk to, a trusted clergyman or a trusted family member.

They key with secrets when you are keeping them as a child, is you are not old enough to know the consequences of those secrets to yourself. That is why it is best always to tell a trusted adult.

Secrets truly can be deadly and dangerous.
