What does intellect mean? What does it mean when someone says they are the intellectual type of person?  Let us first take a look at intellect in our Webster Dictionary and get its exact meaning.

Intellect-The faculty of reasoning and understanding objectively, especially with regard to abstract or academic matters.  2.  The understanding or mental powers of a particular person.  3.  an intelligent or intellectual person

Daily Wisdom Word Meaning of Intellect-The strength one has in the mind to think through reasoning and logic as well as emotions.  2.  emotional intellect

Intellect varies from person to person especially when it comes down to their actual type of intellect.  First of all, let’s talk about emotional intellect.  Emotional intellect is intellect that a person has when they can read another intellectually from an emotional standpoint . These people tend to be sensitive and are drawn to emotional intellect because this is what they can relate to.  They can pick up on a person’s mood very quickly.  They can almost feel someone else’s mood because their own intellect comes from being able to do the same with themselves.

Another type of intellect is called logical/mathematical intellect.  These types of people are mathematically and logistically intelligent.  They tend to be excellent with mathematical skills, and good with english/reading skills.  They are far better with mathematical skills, however than any other type of intellect.  These people are logical thinkers and will do well with an intelligence quota test.  Emotional intellects are just as intelligent.  They may not, however test high with an IQ intelligence test.

Another type of intellect is called social intellect.   These are the people that you can throw into a group of people they have never met before in their life;  Next thing you know, not only have they made friends with all of these people, they have introduced them to one another and they are all having interesting conversations, guided by, of course, the social intellect.

The general definition of an Intellectual is a person who engages in critical thinking, research and reflection about society, proposes solutions for its normative problems and gains authority as a public figure.  Coming from the world of culture, either as a creator or a mediator, the intellectual participates in politics either to defend a concrete proposition ot to denounce an injustice, usually by rejecting, producing or extending an ideology, or by defending a set of values.  You find these intellect’s in the world of politics and social service.

There are different ways to formulate intelligence which I find fascinating.  One definition or format to define intellectual intelligence is with the IQ equation.  This formula is mental age X 100 divided by chronological age.  Is this scale of calculation absolute?  Of course not due to the different types of intelligence I explained above.  You can’t put a number to certain types of intelligence yet these people with these types of intelligence are just as intelligent as a person with a high IQ although they would not do as well with this standardized testing.

There is much more information I could write about intellect but it would take a full novel to explain all the facts and intricate details about it.  For now, read this, and hopefully it will stimulate your interest enough to research your own facts.  Thank you so much for reading about intellect today.  Have a beautiful and blessed day.

Thank you Samantha for this thorough analysis of the human intellect. I like to think that intelligence is God’s gift to all humanity and not just a select few and that each child born is a little bundle of genius that must be nurtured. Keep the exciting discussions coming, Sam.
