Distance

“Distance is just a test of how far love can travel.”
-Unknown

Is all distance relative?

From a scientific standpoint, it’s not. How far a physical and/or tangible destination is can be concluded definitively in miles or kilometers.

But the distance to fruitions of dreams and ambitions can indeed be subjective. For example, some people may find the level of education needed to be in the medical field, especially in a position of prominence, quite daunting.

But for those who have a serious passion for it, even eight to ten years of college may seem like a small sacrifice for a significantly larger payoff.

So in the psychological sense, distance can indeed depend a lot on your perspective.

At all pivotal points in life, if and when we start to question our motives, we have to ask ourselves: how passionate are we of reaching our destination for a particular endeavor? How crucial is it our mental well being? And perhaps most importantly, is the payoff more significant than the journey?

If yes, by all means, continue on. At every moment that appears daunting, take a breather and picture the end result in your mind. Imagine how satisfied you’ll feel when you finally get to that point. Remind yourself that nothing in life, except the insignificant, comes easy.

But if the distance is the only thing that constantly weighs on your mind, perhaps it’s time to reevaluate your goals. If you find yourself not having the patience for something, it’ll be that much more difficult to see it come to fruition.

There are times when distance is absolute and cannot be changed. There are also times when distance is a crucial psychological factor in determining your future. How it effects you and how you act accordingly is up to you.

How do you feel about measuring psychological distance? Can it be measured at all? Have you ever given something up based on distance that seemed to far? Share your thoughts and experiences on our secure servers below.
