Holidays…All Year Long

“May the peace and joy of the holiday season live in your heart all year long.” -Unknown
It was Thanksgiving yesterday and Christmas is coming up. Warm wishes, greeting cards, time with family are all either already here and/or on the horizon. Think about the spirit in the air for a second. Now think about what it would be like if that spirit was alive and vibrant all year long. Is that even possible? Yes, it is. Firstly, let me clarify and say that I certainly don’t mean cooking big meals and handing out presents a year long. I mean imbibing the mood we all get in and carrying that within us all year long. For example, we all go out of our way to wish our families and friends, especially those that we may not communicate with otherwise on a regular basis. Imagine if we made a genuine effort to do that more frequently. How good would it feel to hear from someone we’re not in touch with just wishing us a good day? Thanksgiving, of course, is synonymous with expressing gratitude. But in previous posts, I’ve talked about how beneficial it is to express gratitude as often as you can. How much more optimism would we be surrounded by if everyone around us frequently thought or expressed “I’m thankful for xyz?” Then there’s Christmas. Leaving aside the commercialization of this holiday, let’s focus on the good things for a moment. Imagine the radiance of beautiful lights around us and the overall ambiance encompassing our feelings more often. How beautiful would such sites be to observe more than just one or two months a year? Sometimes, the materialistic elements of traditions are so engraved in our minds that we forget their true meaning: changing our spirit to be just a little more grateful and show just a little more love to our families and friends. If we keep that spirit alive all year long or at least more often, perhaps humanity would be just a little more positive. How do you feel about the holiday spirit? Do you find yourself being in touch with people you dont talk to more often? Do you agree or disagree with the points made in this post?
