HELLO ALL!
Our Daily Wisdom Word is SCRUTINY.
The definition of scrutiny is critical observation or careful examination.
Have you ever had someone scrutinize you? I mean someone who boldly points out something about your appearance or choices without being asked.
Maybe you’ve heard comments like, “Your dress is too short.” Or, “You’d look better with short hair.” Perhaps someone has said, “You’re wearing those shoes today? They’re so ugly.”
Comments like these can catch us completely off guard. In an instant, our confidence can disappear, and we begin questioning ourselves. Is my dress too short? Do these shoes really look that bad? Suddenly, one person’s opinion starts to feel like the truthβeven though it isn’t.
When we’re scrutinized in an unkind way, it can be deeply hurtful. Sometimes those comments come from people who enjoy criticizing others or who fail to consider the impact of their words. Their opinion is just thatβan opinion, not a fact. Unless you’ve asked for constructive feedback, no one has the right to make you feel small.
Now let me ask you a different question.
Have you ever scrutinized someone else? Have you ever felt strongly that your opinion needed to be shared?
Before speaking, pause and ask yourself: Is what I’m about to say helpful? Is it kind? Was my opinion requested?
There are times when honest feedback is appropriate, especially when someone asks for it. But unsolicited criticism often wounds more than it helps. If you choose to speak, let your words be guided by kindness, humility, and love.
Today, let’s remember that our words have the power to build people up or tear them down. Choose the words that leave someone feeling encouraged rather than diminished.
Thank you for reading today’s Daily Wisdom Word on Scrutiny. I’d love to hear your thoughts. Please leave a comment or write a poem beneath this post.
