DOORS

OFTEN TIMES IN LIFE, A DOOR WILL CLOSE WHEN IT IS SUPPOSED TO.  WHEN I SEE A DOOR, I think of what it signifies;  opening and closing.  Depending on our awareness level, we may not even realize a new door has opened, but every opportunity we receive, a new door  opening stands for.  Often, we don’t recognize the opportunities when they occur in our life.  What we do notice are the opportunities that we view as lost ones.

Most of us have heard the saying, “when one door closes, another one opens.  It is important in life to be grateful for the good things that happen to us.  If we have an attitude of gratitude, we can be thankful for doors which open for us long before we notice doors closing.  It is sad, that we seem to notice closed doors, or opportunities ending, more than we do.  It occured to me as I  wrote this, my sister always had an “attitude of gratitude” and when she started to feel sorry for herself, she often stopped feeling this way by creating a “gratitude list”.

If I had been thankful for each day I had with her and treated each day as a “gift” it was, I would have recognized the”open door” she offered every day she lived.  These are gifts in our life signifying meaning and wisdom or those people we care about or love.  Every day I had her, I should have enjoyed the “open door” of her life.  It is too late for that now, but her advice and voice I still hear in my mind.  So very often, what she shared with me was brilliant.”  When the door closed, (her death), I certainly recognized that.  I should have been more present and aware while she was living, being thankful for each moment shared with her.  We take for granted an open door and reminisce over closed doors too often.

Let us take a look at a partial definition in the Webster Dictionary for a door.

Webster Dictionary for door-a revolving barrier at the entrance to a building, room, or or vehicle, or in the framework of a cupboard, an “OPEN DOORWAY”.

Daily Wisdom Words Definition of Door-a vehicle used as an analogy for moving in or out of new opportunity and opportunities ending.

No new door opening will ever replace my sister and her life. No matter how busy she was, if anyone needed her, she gave the time needed to help them even when she struggled to help herself.  She knew the meaning of an open door recognizing its significance. When she moved away from the gratitude she felt for a new opportunity, she made a gratitude list to continually remind her that new doors can  open or close at any time.  Appreciating an “open door” or new opportunity was just one of her many gifts she bestowed to all.  It is truly sad when we don’t realize enough the opportunities God presents to us, until it is too late.

ACKNOWLEDGMENT

Why is acknowledgement important with others?  Now that the holiday season is here, it is more important than ever to acknowledge those that love you and do kind things for you.  Thanksgiving is the ideal time to do that.  In fact, acknowledgment is a part of many people’s Thanksgiving holiday.  We do this by saying a special prayer, or going around the room before we eat with family and friends and acknowledging why we are thankful for them.  What is the actual Webster Dictionary Definition of acknowledgement?

Acknowledgment-1.  Acceptance of the truth or existence of something.  2.  The action of displaying or expressing gratitude for something.

Daily Wisdom Word Definition of Acknowledgment-The giving of thanks to God and others for all the blessings each has brought into your life.  2.  The giving of thanks to another.

At Thanksgiving, just before we eat the huge meal my mother prepares as tradition, we say thanks to God with a prayer one of us says each year.  Some Thanksgiving’s in the past we have gone around the room to all families and friends before deciding what/who and why we are thankful for everything around the past year.

Thanksgiving is one of our oldest holidays dating back to 1621, which is the first recorded Thanksgiving by the Pilgrims after harvest.  It was attended by 90 different Americans and 53 different pilgrims.  After that, every year at harvest time, this tradition was repeated.  There are different traditions around Thanksgiving and the holiday season.  That is part of what makes them meaningful and special.  Thanksgiving, or “giving Thanks”, reminds us of two things:  Always do your best to have an attitude of gratitude, and tell those your thankful to why you are thankful everyday, not just Thanksgiving.

When we give a gift, we are letting others know they are appreciated which is also part of the holidays.  It’s ironic, that this tradition started and it became one when we started acknowledging Saint Nicholas with stockings for the children.  The toy companies got wind of this and involved themselves in advertising for Christmas and the holidays.  Between Thanksgiving and Christmas, billions of dollars will be spent on food and gifts for others, especially children.

Not all families are alike, however.  My son is soon to be engaged to a family that does prepare a big meal on Thanksgiving.  However, Christmas is and always has been for them, about spending time together.  They will decorate a Christmas Tree, but don’t typically exchange gifts.  It is important to remember some people also have religious reasons they don’t celebrate certain holidays like Thanksgiving, and this needs to also be acknowledged.

Now that we are just a few days before Thanksgiving, Daily Wisdom Words would like to say thank you to all of our members this year and the year’s past.  We want you to know how grateful we are to have you be a part of our family.  We hope your Thanksgiving is a happy and blessed one.

One last thought on this:  Make sure to at tell your loved ones how thankful you are for them and all they do for you and others more often than one holiday a year.  Tell them often and remind them how much you love them.  Spending time with someone means a lot more than a fancy gift…God Bless and Happy Thanksgiving from all of us to you and your loved ones.

ANGELS

Do angels exist in our world?  When we talk about the daily wisdom word, angels, we can use it as a descriptive word for a special human being, or we can think of angels who serve to do God’s work.  Before we go any further with a description of an angel, let us take a look at the Webster Definition and Daily Wisdom Word Definition.

Webster Definition of Angel-1.  A spiritual being believed to act as an attendant, agent or messenger of God conventionally representing in human form with wings and a long robe.

Daily Wisdom Word Definition of Angel-1.  One person who has been gifted with the greatest gift of all.  A gift from the heart to give to others before their own selves.

My definition of an “angel” is different than the Webster Dictionary.  I do believe God has angels that watch out for us from heaven.  However, I think there are human angels as well.  I believe in human angels, because these people are different than most of us.  They sacrifice their own needs for everyone’s needs and are unique and special with character that is almost perfection.

I have a new friend Named Jamie, who I just recently gotten close to.  I call her my angel.  She has the attributes I just mentioned and is a rarity.  It is strange in life how we just “connect” with some people.  On top of this, I have never met her in person.  It does not matter.  I feel her energy, kindness and strength in her words, so beautifully written.  There is just something very special about her, and she is always making sure she includes everyone in what she writes and notices what they write.  A true gift from God.

She lost someone close to her, and has to cope with this, and she does so, magnificently.  She remembers the memories, instead of absorbing herself in the grief.  I am sure she deals with grief like the rest of us, but the comments she has made to me, tell me she remembers the good times.  A true “Angel”.

Often, when we lose someone, we forget about their memory and the footprints they left in the sand nearest to their heart.  We get caught up in the horror of the loss.  I myself, have done this.  God leaves us with memories, and the love in our hearts for a reason.  It is our “comfort”.  Undeniably grief is difficult for us all, but she is so graceful with the way she deals with it.

There is another “angel” in my life, and that is my mother.  She is amazing, and so strong.  My sister was diagnosed with oral cancer, and it has been horrific what she has had to go through to get rid of this.  Because part of her treatment involved radiation, for five days, where she had to be isolated in the hospital in a room with windows you could see through.  Not only has my mom been there for this part of the cancer treatment, she has been there for the whole thing, and she lives out of state.  My mom watched and reassured my sister who was so very scared with her positive energy and sweet smile, and my mom managed to be there for almost all of it.

My mom amazes me in many other ways, that leads me to believe she is an “angel” God put on this earth.  She has four children who all have issues, and she makes time for all of them, still hosting Thanksgiving Dinner for 20 people every year t 80 years old.

Angels are very, very special and a true gift from God.  They do the “little things” that most of us don’t take the time to do.  They are there for their loved ones and others, while keeping faith in God.  I do my best to just take care of myself, lol.

Do you have an “angel” in your life you would like to share about?  Now is your opportunity.  Please scroll down beneath this article to our comments section which has “join the discussion” and a box to write in.  I would love to hear your story.

God bless you, Jamie and mom.  Whenever life is tough for you or the people you help, remember you were born to be an “angel”, and angels are hard to find.
