JOURNEYS VS DESTINATIONS

Accomplishments will prove to be a journey, not a destination. -Dwight D. Eisenhower
For the longest time, one of the most commonly used phrases I’ve heard is “the end justifies the means.” Adding to that are stories of constant hustle and bustle till people reach their goals. It all makes me think; is a destination simply a mcguffin for learning? It’s the journey of a path after all that fills our lives with new experiences. Once we reach our destination, we’re off that path and life stops momentarily until we soak in the destination. Very quickly after that, however, we get on a new path for a new destination. The journeys are constant, the destination is simply a rest stop. Each of those journeys teaches us the several difficult parts of life and perhaps a few easy ones as well. Depending on what kind of endeavor you’re hoping to conquer, the excitement of a journey getting there can also last much longer than the destination. Say you’re getting a new television that you just ordered on Amazon. Until it comes, your mind will be in a constant state of eagerness. Every few hours, you’ll find yourself tracking the delivery. But what happens after it arrives? You set it up and enjoy it. But the level of excitement the anticipation filled you with is gone. You’re no longer on your toes, staring out the window for the delivery truck. That journey is over and done with. We all want to achieve our goals. But no matter how difficult the journey for getting there is, never dismiss it. Good or bad, it’s telling you and teaching you something. And years from now, when you look back at it, the story of the journey will seem far more enticing than the two seconds of the moment you actually got there. How do you feel about the significance of a journey towards a goal? Do you appreciate it? Do you believe it’s more critical than the destination? Life is a whole maze of pathways.
Different destinations, different days.
Multiple purposes grace one life.
Destination is only a momentary hype.
