Very often, we rely on the love and emotional support of others to move forward in life. And that’s certainly normal. We’re not robots, we’re human beings and have feelings. Those feelings need validation from others. That said, it’s important to remember that in the end, it’s up to us individually to go ahead with our dreams and aspirations. In the past three weeks or so, it seems like friends are dropping out of my lives at the drop of a hat, particularly on social media. My first impressions, like anyone else in my position, were of disappointment and hurt. After all, I often relied on their encouragement when I was down to pick me back up again. I kept thinking, what will I do now? Upon further reflection, however, I concluded that while I will sorely miss them, my skills and talents or lack thereof are still here. Good, bad or indifferent, I just have to keep doing what I’ve been doing. If their compliments were genuine and I’m really competent in my endeavors, I’ll be fine. And if I fail, it’ll be on my own accord. Along various walks of life, we’ll meet people who will push us forward. We’ll meet people who will push back.
