TOO EASY…TOO GOOD?

“Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.” -Leonardo Da Vinci
Are all things that are easy in life too good to be true? In the form of rewards, perhaps. In the form of payment over something, be it a job or otherwise, maybe. After all, as the saying goes, “There’s no such thing as a free lunch.” But when it comes to solutions to problems or just ways to feel good in the midst of a storm, it’s best not to underestimate anything that ostensibly appears trivial. Yesterday, I had a pretty rough morning. It was one of those mornings in which I woke up on the wrong side of the bed. Nothing seemed to go right until an online conversation with a friend in the afternoon. The conversation didn’t specifically have anything to do with my woes or my friend’s. Both of us were hurting and our conversation started with the usual pleasantries simply to check on each other. From there various issues and topics were touched upon, including a brief explanation of our woes but by no means agonized over. It was just a normal, everyday chat that could have taken place between any two people at any time. And yet, at the end of the chat I was smiling and ready to take on the world. As I mentioned this to my friend, she said she had a similar sentiment. Nothing out of the ordinary or unusual. Just a casual chat. All too often, we overlook simple solutions to problems because society has become quite jaded and dubious about many things. And that’s understandable when it comes to reaping the rewards for something. As mentioned above, rewards don’t come easily. If they do, they most probably are too good to be true. But when it comes to psychological aides, we should be more open-minded about things. In the past, I’ve written about the power of a single smile and how it can change someone’s entire day. Similarly, I feel there are other small things that shouldn’t be overlooked. A chance encounter in any task or endeavor could bring forth a myriad of change. All we have to do is allow it in. There are times when simplicity doesn’t work. There are also times when overthinking something doesn’t work. It’s all about being open to all possibilities. Has there ever been a time in your life when the most simple thing cheered you up? Do you believe in the power and benefits of simplicity? Why or why not? These days , just the simple act of sitting on the edge of my bed in the morning and breathing deeply, without the impediment of having disease in my lung, is a great pleasure. It will not take for granted.
