Relationship Statuses

“Don’t sacrifice the relationship for a relationship status. If his heart is still single, then being ‘taken’ won’t matter.”

-Derrick Jaxn

Nowadays, people seem more obsessed to show a “status” of their relationship to their social media followers than a true commitment to the actual relationship.

Phrases like “It’s Complicated” seem to have crept into our everyday lexicon.

I’m not entirely sure what the point of a status is.

I do see the merit in letting people know if you’re taken so they’re never led on.

But anything beyond that seems pointless.

Giving every stage of a relationship a name seems to complicate things more often than not.

I’ve heard my friends say things like “I thought we were just friends but s/he put something else on Facebook.”

I feel it’s time to keep things simple again. If you’re single, you’re single. If you’re taken, you’re taken.

Anything in between should remain between you and your partner.
