PSEUDONYMS

PSEUDONYMS

What are pseudonyms?  Let us take a look at our Webster Dictionary to find out.

Pseudonyms-  1.  a fictitious name, especially one used by an author.

Daily Wisdom Word Definition of Pseudonyms-1.  A “ghost name” used by an author that she or he feels more comfortable writing with.

Many authors don’t want to write by their own name, for security purposes, privacy and safety.  They are called “ghost writers” and they write under an alternate identity.  Pseudonyms can also be used in order to change your name.  You may not be comfortable with the name you have, and many actresses also change their name.

Marilyn Monroe was a pseudonym for Norma Jeane Mortenson.  Her agent actually changed her name to a pseudonym to make her more marketable to the public.  Many actresses have done this.

A pseudonym is also referred to as a pen name.  This is the name one uses when writing they would prefer to be known by.  My mother was a songwriter for many years, and she used a pseudonym for safety purposes and concealment of her identity.  She simply wasn’t comfortable with her given name and all the potential publicity using her given name could potentially cause her.

She was shy, and in some ways ashamed of her writing.  All of us in the family write, except for my older sister and brother, and I prefer to use my given name to write by.  I am here to share stories about myself in hopes of helping others, and using a  pseudonym, would defeat that purpose.

Daily Wisdom Words are articles about myself and many of them personalized with admissions of events that have taken place in my life I am not always proud of but I write about them under my given name because I feel strongly people can gain wisdom from them rather than to have to experience these mistakes themselves.

Beneath this post, is a comments section, and I would love it if you would share a comment, poem or quote after reading about each daily wisdom word.

Thanks so much for reading,
