What do sacrifices actually mean to us? Let us first take a look at the meaning of Sacrifices in our Webster Dictionary.
Sacrifices-1. an act of giving up something valued for the sake of somethings else regarde as more important or worthy . 2. An act of slaughtering an animal or person or surrendering a possession as an offering to God or to a divine or supernatural figure
Daily Wisdom Word Meaning of Sacrifices-1. Giving up something valuable to you for something else you feel is more valuable. 2. giving up something that is less important than your ultimate goal or end game.
Sacrifices count for so much, if they are given for the right reason. For instance, my daughter is running her first half-marathon and right now, she is sick. She feels she is not in good enough shape yet to run it. Today, whether it was smart or not, she got outside in the cold and worked out because to make the sacrifice of working out while sick, was worth it to her for the long term goal which was more important.
Sacrifices help us develop self-discipline. We learn how to enjoy long term gratification rather than short term gratification. We decide to go on a diet. We make sacrifices to lose this weight by giving up the immediate pleasure food gives us to lose weight in the long run. This is not always easy.
We also make sacrifices for our children or others that we love including God. We use a moral compass to decide what is right, and make the sacrifices necessary to achieve the end result.
When do sacrifices become dangerous? The answer is when they are too extreme. People with eating disorders will make the sacrifice of food to be so thin it is dangerous for their own health.
Sacrifices are mainly good, because of the discipline they teach us. Today, I would love to see comments and discussions beneath this post where it says, “join the discussion”, or poems or quotes as well. The whole purpose of daily wisdom words is to get us to think differently or deeper about things. By joining in the discussion, we show we make the sacrifice of time to post!
