WHAT IS A LEADER?  A LEADER CAN BE ANYONE WHO HEADS UP A TEAM, ADMINISTRATION, GROUP OR ANYONE WHO SETS AN EXAMPLE.  When you are a leader with leadership responsibilities you are the one who sets the example for whoever you are guiding.  We have leaders who set examples that may be right or wrong.  Leaders in my opinion, have a responsibility to be a good role model for whoever they are leading.  Leaders of countries are examples our younger generation looks at for guidance, morals, values, decisions they make, and thoughts on the issues that the leader represents.  

If we don’t represent positive leadership, we should not be a leader.  There are groups in the world sadly that wish to represent violence.  For example, Osama Bin Laden who chanted over and over in propaganda videos “death to America”.  What did the children who saw him as their leader do?  They prepared themselves armed and operational even at 5 years old.  They hated America as well.  How sad it was to see a child 13 to 15 years old following the leadership they have been taught,  strapped with a bomb.  These children are taught to think they will be doing Allah’s work.  They will be seen in paradise as making the ultimate sacrifice.  Where did they learn this thought process?  From leadership the Leader taught and followed set himself.  They followed his guidance, ultimately with their life.  

A great leader has leadership examples that are positive and exemplary.  When we Parent we are leaders.  When we direct our children with guidance, often words are not always followed.  It is a proven fact, that our example as a leader is followed not only with our words, but actions.  Great examples of leadership and guidance are beliefs we follow ourselves.  A great leader needs to follow his own leadership example.  It means so little to children what we say.  When ew exhibit a leadership role, whomever we lead will look to us for leadership by our actions and examples.  I learned this lesson as a parent “after” my children were grown.  I hope my advice is taken by parents who are actively leading children now.  Our judgement as a leader for our children should be well thought out with each decision we make.  We also need to be prepared to follow through with our own actions because we have a responsibility as a leader.  

Webster Definition of leadership-1.  The position and function of a leader.  2.  ability to lead 3.  an act or instance of leading guidance and direction.

Daily Wisdom Word Definition of leadership-1.  Leading through our actions.  Taking a stand and understanding the responsibilities to be a leader.  

Being a leader is a compliment when our leadership is admirable.  All leadership of any kind is followed through with character and actions we are teaching. We are all leaders at some point, and our leadership skills set examples for those we lead.  Leadership is shown through our actions and words.  We all can be a positive role model and live by the actions our leadership will stand for.  This applies to work ethics, and leadership of any kind. Leadership is shown by the examples we set.

LUMINARIES “DO YOU KNOW ONE?”

What does it mean to be a luminary?  Luminaries are not easily found.  Often, we have to look at history to find them.  Let us first take a look at the definition of a luminary.  

Webster Dictionary meaning of Luminary-a person who inspires or influences others especially one prominent in a particular sphere.

Daily Wisdom Word Definition of a luminary-A person who has a special light that is emanated from their heart and soul.  

Luminaries are hard to find.  This is why we don’t often hear the word used.  Luminaries are special and unique and shine brightly when they walk into a room.  They may be a famous person or a person who has made their mark in history.  Luminaries are the people who have a vision for the future and create an avenue to illuminate their vision.  They find a way to make their dreams real.  

I believe we all have a role in life God assigns us to play.  There could not be leaders without followers.  There could not be visionaries without scientists.  It takes all kinds of individuals to create our differences and uniqueness.  Every once in a while, you will meet someone special.  This person will stand out because of their kindness.  They usually have many friends due to their warmth and spirit.  Often, they are one of the leaders in the community.  You may know a luminary but haven’t identified them as such.  

Luminaries inspire others.  A luminary will be the one who creates the plan for something positive.  People subconsciously notice that they are special and they tend to have a strong ability to influence others towards positive enlightenment.  They move towards progress and progress is change.  Without luminaries, many of the positive discoveries made in history would not have happened.  

Do you know a luminary but possibly haven’t identified them as such?  Luminaries are the illumination of new pathways in life.  They make their mark in history and influence others with their original thoughts and ideas.  Although not mentioned in our definition, luminaries are who we may label as a living angel.  Many influenced individuals tend to follow luminaries or are their friend.

ROADBLOCKS HOW DO WE OVERCOME THEM?

Life is full roadblocks.  Some of us see a roadblock and stop.  Some of us see a roadblock as a hurdle.  We find a way to go around it or jump over it.  The latter is the kind of person I like to be and believe myself to be.  Viewing a life full of roadblocks, is realistic.  Life, especially when dealing with complicated situations will present us with “roadblocks”.  If we turn away, without looking for a way around, we basically allow these roadblocks to control us and our decisions.  You can be the most intelligent person on this planet, but if you do not know how to proceed around roadblocks rather than turn away, you won’t get very far with this.  

Let us take a look at the definition of a roadblock in our Webster Dictionary and the daily wisdom words definition.  

Webster Definition of roadblock-1.  Something that blocks progress or prevents accomplishment of an objective.

Daily Wisdom Words Definition-a temporary workaround that stops us in our tracks but doesn’t stop us more than temporarily.  

Creativity is a quality that is just as important as intelligence but without persistence, creativity in and of itself, can’t guide you around the roadblocks in life.  When we take creativity and add persistence and intelligence, we have a winning mix of  human success.  If we have a dream, unless we attempt to make it reality, it will always be just a dream in our mind.  A dream is no different that a dream you have when you are sleeping and wake up.  You may remember a dream as meaningful, but chances are it is forgotten or placed in our imagination never to play on into reality.  A dream we never play out by trying despite the roadblocks we should expect will sadly remain just this.  Let us refer to roadblocks to also be thought of as looking at a map.  If I want to go to Colorado from Arizona, there is more than one path to get there.  This is how we must view roadblocks in life.  

Persistence, which I mentioned is a quality needed to bring a dream into reality is nothing more than making a decision with vision and a plan.  The more specific the plan is adding some flexibility for the roadblocks in life is one that, with the right plan will be successful.  I feel very confident, if you have a plan with logistics and a specific plan you will achieve your dream.

A dream that is something in your heart and head is a dream that is very powerful with persistence and creativity and I believe with the right plan we can achieve it.  There will always be those individuals who are the negative nellies telling us that our dream is unrealistic and impossible.  They will have many reasons why your dream will not succeed and may have valid points, but only you in your heart with the right plan will know it is possible with proper persistence.  One of the first poems I wrote when I was maybe 11 or 12 years old, still rings true today for me:  It goes like this:  “Never give up on something you really want, not until the end.”  When all else fails, make sure to begin once again.”  This still comes to mind for me when I wish to turn a dream into reality.

WARRIORS:

Warriors-Are you one?  A warrior doesn’t always mean you’ve been part of a War or survived part of war.  It can also mean there is an undeniable love between someone who has been a warrior who understands their pain. Who is the warrior in this case?  I think  both of these individuals are both are!  It is in a very difficult job to fight in a war.  The war in Afghanistan has gone on well over a decade.  Many individuals that have PTSD, Post Traumatic Stress disorder, and be seen as heros and warriors.  What about the partners and wives that stand beside these warriors?   

Let us take a look at the Webster Dictionary meaning of warriors-(especially in former times),  A brave or experienced soldier or fighter.  

Daily wisdom words definition of  Warriors-men and women who are firefighters, policemen, FBI investigation officers, and others who sacrifice their lives for others.  2.  the partners in a relationship with the individuals who work in such a dangerous  field, not knowing each night whether or not they willl be coming home at the end of the day.                                                                

In today’s society, those women or even men who choose to be caretakers of their Alzheimer’s mothers and fathers, or sick parents in general are also “Warriors”.  Some of these warriors become Martyrs over a period of time, forgetting about their first priorities which include their own children, not feeling safe with their parents because of their parents have no more to give them emotionally, physically and financially because even though they get financial compensation for taking care of them such as social security or Medicare.  

The biggest issue I have with all of the above, is warriors shouldn’t have to fight so hard with the Veteran’s Administration and Social Security Administration to get health care, mental health care, not only for them but for their family or caretakers.  There should be plenty of government subsidized programs available for these men and women to take advantage of, not only with support groups which are usually organized by the men and women who must deal with the broken fragments of a person they once knew.  It is such a long journey to get help, and such a difficult process for any veteran or retired Law Professional to deal with when they are already suffering and so is their family.  

The following story is based on true facts.  I cannot reveal details of this case because it comes directly from an attorneys records and documentation of a case he handled which was the Veterans administration who was suing a private party of war, who needed an attorney and because this particular firm did so many hours of pro-bono work to provide legal representation outside of this attorney’s legal field at this time.  The crux of this case was a veteran had moved and switched addresses and notified the VA giving them notice.  Fortunately for this veteran, he kept excellent records, and he had a copy of the letter notifying the VA of his moving from another address.  In fact, It as postmarked.  The sad thing is the VA had stopped sending this veteran’s checks saying he had violated the law, by not pr0viding his current address.  Of course, between a correspondence timeline the attorney created,  and the other documentation he was able to gather, including documentation the veteran had saved, they won the case.  In fact, the VA Had to reimburse back pay from the time line when the vacancy for this time wasn’t paid, and the veteran was thrilled.  

There are many other sad cases and I find NO PLACE for politics in here either.   Politics and campaigning now uses things like, VETERANS AFFAIRS OR RETIRED PENSION FUNDS YET, THEIR HANDS ARE ALWAYS FOUND IN THE PIE.  THANKS SHOULD BE GIVEN FOR ALL OF THE SACRIFICES THESE WARRIORS GIVE FOR US.  AFTER ALL, WE CAN’T HAVE IT BOTH WAYS.  THE MILITARY IS THERE TO PROTECT US, BUT AT THE END OF THE DAY WE HAVE TO DECIDE:  DO WE WANT TO FIX WHAT IS BROKEN WITH FIREMEN POLICEMEN AND OUR MILITARY, OR CONTINUE TO SHORTCHANGE THEM UNTIL THE REPUTATION IS SO BAD, THEY HAVE TO DECIDE NOT TO CHOOSE THESE THINGS FOR A YEAR ANYWAY.

LEADERS ARE YOU A LEADER OR FOLLOWER?

Leaders:  are you a leader or a follower?

Our Daily Wisdom Word, Leaders, is a special one because not all of us are leaders, and they make things happen.  What is a leader?  a leader is a teacher.  They have a plan of action before we do, and they are not afraid to express or try the plan. There are two kinds of leaders.   “Positive Leaders” are inspirational. This is the type of leader we will focus on today.  We can’t help but admire them, because they always seem to have the answers whether it be in a work environment, or a friendship.  Not all of their ideas are perfect, but they are at least a plan to take action. 

Followers think of ideas, but sometimes don’t have the confidence to express these thoughts and carry them forward to the next step.  Followers sometimes don’t have an issue with confidence, but are simply shy.  I understand the leader and the follower well.  I used to be a follower.  I was afraid in a group to speak up for fear of what others might think of me.  As I have gotten older, my role has definitely changed.  I have passion and care very much for others.  I am not afraid to give someone advice, even if they don’t ask for it.  This can be an issue as well because sometimes, we simply need someone to listen without judgement.  I founded Daily Wisdom Words, and it seems to have inspired many writers instilling confidence in their abilities.  

We sometimes play both roles.  We tend to gravitate more to one side or the other and this tells us who we are.  Followers like leaders being the main character and implementing a plan.  This for the follower sometimes is a relief.  It is one less burden they have to take on in life.  If a leader’s plan fails, the follower does not bear the main portion of responsibility.  

We will consult the Webster Dictionary and see what the meaning of a leader is.

Webster definition of Leader-1.  the person who leads or commands a group, organization or charity.  2.  the principle player.

Daily Wisdom Word Definition of leader-one who has enough self-confidence to express a game plan to others naturally.  

Some of us do not play both roles.  There are those people that are born leaders.  They think of a solution to a problem and speak out.  They are not afraid to share ideas.  They seem to have a knack with wisdom and gravitate towards successful solutions.  I watch my daughter.  She is a born leader.  I feel inspired around her.  She showed leadership with her friends with great social ideas and they were happy to have her be their leader.  She is never afraid to give great suggestions, shows wisdom beyond her years, and I tend to hold back when I am with her, because she likes this role.  Leaders are natural parents.  They make the job look easy.  Leaders are able to focus on more than one thing at a time.  Leaders also are generally type A personalities.  Leaders set the example, good or bad and other gravitate towards their plan.  Leaders generally pick a submissive mate who is not threatened by them leading or setting up their plans.  A follower is a great partner for a leader because their viewpoint is it is one less thing they have to worry about having a plan, they just need to follow directions.

Leaders are also charismatic.  Let’s talk a little about the personality of a follower.  These individuals think before they speak their thoughts.  They are smart in this way, knowing if they don’t supply the idea to make a plan work, they also don’t bear responsibility if the leader’s plan fails.  Followers are good listeners, and are good at implementing others ideas.  Once a plan of action by the leader has been decided, followers are happy to make suggestions.  Followers tend to be more introverted.  You decide after giving it some thought.  Are you a leader or a follower?  beneath this post is a rectangle box titled, “join the discussion”.  I would love to hear if you are a follower or leader and why you believe so.  Leave me a comment, and let’s start a discussion.  This is a fascinating topic to converse on.
