What makes the memories we have so special?  Memories capture, very much like a snapshot, the important events in our lives.  There are different types of memory as well, including short-term memory and long-term memory.  before we go any further, let us take a look at the meaning of memories in our Webster Dictionary and the Daily Wisdom Word Definition.

Memories-1.  : the power or process of remembering what has been learned. : something that is remembered. : the things learned and kept in the mind.

Daily Wisdom Word Definition of Memories-1.  The events in our lives that are important to us, as well as another form of memory which records even the most insignificant of  tasks.

Memories are the backward steps we take in our minds to remember what has happened to us.  There is no possible way to get into the different areas and types of memories with too great of detail.  We can, however, go into the subjective aspects of memory and how meaningful memories are.

Memories start, when we are born.  There has even been controversial evidence that suggests memory, upon the formation of the brain, begins in the womb.  However, that has yet to be proven.  Memories are events we can schedule and make.  If, for instance, I have a “bucket list” of memories I am choosing to pursue, than I am making memories.

There are also the memories we make, as our life recorder plays to record every single day.  These memories are the very things that will touch our hearts and remind us of how we felt at the time of the memory. If, we have photographs framed and saved ticket stubs from a  favorite band  we saw in the past, or movie, or pictures from the event.  Of course, we remember important moments in time that have an affect on us.

As I write this, I am angry with myself for not taking more pictures, videos and saved memorabilia to remember special points in my life.  Life is so short, and it is the memories we make going through it that greatly elaborate on our overall frame of mind, when they happen.  When they happen, we often don’t realize the relevance they may hold in our future looking back.

My daughter asked me for some baby pictures of herself, and I was only able to provide her with a minimum amount of them.  We didn’t have iphones to quickly snap a photograph or video.  However, if I am honest, I was not thinking of the future, not seeing how profound of an effect it would have on my daughter, not having the photos of herself she wanted, and the massive effect it has had on me, now that my daughter and son are grown.  There simply isn’t the ability to recreate the past and have a do-over.

The lesson I want you to take away from this post, especially if your young, is to make a record of everything that happens that is meaningful and even some things you think are not.  There is a “brain record” of all things that happen to us, but the question remains, “will we remember these things”?

[…] See this: Memories. […]

I am at a point in my life that I remember reality, dreams, and wishes. Sometimes I cannot distinguish the difference – I’ll ask myself if something really happened, or if it was a dream, or thought I had. I can’t remember. It all seems so real. I cannot remember anything pre-birth. I have few memories from age 1-5. The more my brain formed the more memories I have. But the memories from 30 years ago are so strong, they have lasted this long.

You’re such a light, a love
for brilliant cloudless days
when hope would find you
laughing with all of us.
I wonder as the sunlight
now falling on your eyes
lights upon a smile that
remembers yesterday’s?
Tomorrow’s rain may
cloud such memories
yet hope will find
another someday.
