OPTIMISTIC WORRYING (Revised)

“Worrying is thinking negative thoughts about things that are outside of your control.”

-Mel Robbin

The title of today’s post may seem oxymoronic or counterintuitive. Worrying by definition is a negative trait so how can it be optimistic?

Let me elaborate.

SO WHAT IS THE MEANING OF LIFE ANYWAY?

“The meaning of life is whatever you ascribe it to be. Being alive is the meaning.”

-Joseph Campbell

What’s the meaning and/or of life?

Looking for such answers is a quest that everyone goes through at some point.

And while it’s normal to wonder about it, I’ve always felt that in many ways it’s a quest with no real answer because life is a different journey for everyone.

What the final destination is for one person is different from another.

To someone who’s dreamed of being an astronaut, their sole purpose would be to find themselves inside a rocket in space. One who aspires to be a lawyer or a police officer dreams of ridding corruption and crime from society.

In that case, it’s best to look at it from this point of view: life is ultimately what we make it.

Sure certain circumstances are unavoidable, but the every decision we make that’s in our control has an impact one way or the other.

Every person walking this planet has some purpose to fulfill. If they didn’t, they wouldn’t be here. But what exactly that is a journey of finding out. The only ones who know for sure are the divine forces.

But for us humans, finding that purpose is one long journey. Sure, we can predict certain destinations in the short run. If I do the laundry, I’ll have clean clothes to wear. If I pay my bills on time, I won’t be in debt.

But in the long run? None of us can really say. All we can go by is going about what we hope is our destination with sincerity and hope.

Rather than wonder what’s the meaning of life, we should ask ourselves what are the steps we should take to reach a destination we ourselves create. Maybe we’ll get there, maybe we won’t. But create the path and follow it.

So what’s the meaning of life? In my opinion, whatever you aspire to be or do at this very moment.

Do you often think about the meaning or purpose in life? If so, what does that mean to you? How do you feel and react when things don’t go the way you planned? How often do your goals change? Share your thoughts and experiences by commenting below on our secure servers.

SHORES AND ME

Shores and me

In my lowliest of times i find myself thinking of me in places i desire like shores, mountains, the great wall of China, Los Angeles, Seychelles etc. Before i get into the exercise today, i would love to tell you a story.

Today, i was compelled to go the bank to make some deposit- mother’s order. I never knew it was going to take more than two hours to actually get into the bank because of Covid which was and still is my fond reason for not going to the bank to do anything.

I won’t bore you with the whole stress on standing for five hours- i am not kidding. While i waited for my turn in front of the cashier, a dark thick Muslim whose facial expression reeked a great deal of frustration because the counting machine kept on with its habit of scattering the money it was supposed to count smoothly. I just could not but smile at what i saw, not her facial expression this time, but letters beneath my feet. it said:

Think outside of the box but stay within the circle.

Sublime, right? I just could not help but smile and think on it. At least it eased the stress of standing. The aforementioned quote is no loner. Do you see the connection with the words and the beautiful picture by Michelle Huggelmann and the words ‘Shores and me’?

PASSION VS OBSESSION (REVISED)

“An obsession is a way for damaged people to damage themselves more.”
-Mark Barrowcliffe

I’ve always believed that two key elements to conquer any difficult endeavor of life are passion and determination. But is there such a thing too much passion? Can you ever love something (or someone) so much that it comes a hindrance more than an ascension.

There can be, when passion becomes obsession.

TREATY BY LEONARD COHEN

This song, treaty, is the second track in Leonard Cohen’s You want it darker album  which was released in 2016. I have not listened to all the track because I stumbled on it in a friend’s tweet on Wednesday. As is my fond routine, I delved into searching for the song.

To me it didn’t sound like a song when the song played, it’s gentle and soothing instrumentals oozing out of the bare speaker in my android device, for about 50 seconds I immediately concluded that it was not a song but maybe spoken word poetry. I waited and it gradually turned out to be a song. It’s quite an unusual kind of song I you ask me.

But, I will not dismiss, for anything, it’s true and unadulterated nature. You have to listen to Treaty by Leonard Cohen. In the song, he presents a case: your love and my love should have a treaty. That way, you don’t run away with mine. Well, the former is my opinion.

Do you think it is necessary to get a treaty in a relationship today? That’s what we get to talk about today. I’m Abuh Monday Eneojo. I will be your host for Daily Wisdom Words Music Prompt.

ALWAYS ON MY MIND BY WILLIE NELSON

Mind

It is no news that yesterday was Good Friday. The mind of the whole world was on Jesus Christ, the savior of the world. He died and is risen just to redeem us from sin. Do you love Him? I love him. He is always on mind: when I wake, eat, sleep and do anything. In fact, my signature sentence is “Thank you Jesus”. I say this because I know what He did and still does to keep you and me alive and well.

I would have played the many Easter songs I am familiar with but I do not want you to miss this amazing tune today. May be tomorrow I will play an Easter song. You could actually suggest a song by leaving a comment below. I always appreciate your suggestions.

Always on my mind by Willie Nelson is the song we get to listen to today. Participating here is quite easy. Yes! MEDITATION – AN INTRODUCTION

“The thing about meditation is: You become more and more you.”
-David Lynch

What exactly is meditation? The textbook definition is reaching a level of consciousness in your mind to where you can control what you think. In many ways, it’s nothing more than an advanced level of mindfulness.

LITERATURE THE FALL OF LITERATURE IN THE EDUCATION SYSTEM

Many schools have moved away from teaching literature in elementary schools through high school because the education system doesn’t feel like it is as important as it once was.  Educators and their curriculum barely touch on literature in English, but there are still very good reasons to integrate more studies focused on literature within English.  Let us take a look at the meaning of literature in our Webster Dictionary.

Literature-1. Written works, especially those considered of superior or lasting artistic merit.  2.  books and writings published on a particular subject. Daily wisdom word meaning.

Daily Wisdom Word meaning-1.  1.  a subject taught in a mixture of English and history teaching us the value of our heritage and fundamentals of creativity with words.

This is a subject very important to me based on my interaction with authors and poets and one of the main reasons I started the website, daily wisdom words.  What does literature offer students today?  Literature has the capacity to broaden a child’s horizons by helping them to appreciate their culture and heritage.  Literature promotes creativity in a child by letting them see the beauty of words and how famous writers have and do use them.  Since literature is integrated into our standard  IQ test, and part of how we score one way of judging intelligence, It ought to be taught within mainstream education as it once was.

Not only does literature promote creativity and imagination, but it also helps develop an interest in words themselves.  Poetry and past renowned authors show children and teens another outlet of communication and its importance.  How does one find out they have a passion to write a book or poetry?  I  believe literature being taught in our schools through our English courses and even modern literature helps encourage writers all over this world.  If literature wasn’t taught in a basic curriculum program throughout our education, we would find those famous writers might be a thing of the past.

Words and their meaning held us learn the importance of articulation and differences in words that sound alike, for example, “too or two”, but their definition.  Without teaching this in our education system and encouragement of literature’s importance, our youth cannot and does not learn the value of words, communicating properly with them and their different meanings.

Picture an interview years later without the base of literature and its education.  The candidate looking for a job is judged not only on nonverbal cues but verbal ones.  A strong base in literature is a stepping stone to the future and new authors and poets who will in the future be famous in history.  Dailywisdomwords.com is dedicated to donating to UNICEF for children because a portion of the money is used towards education.  This is why we have daily poetry and writer’s prompts, discounted book reviews, “Wise Poets and Authors of Past and Present” by our writer each week by Shirley Mandel Satterfield, uplifting articles promoting the value of words, their use and meaning, and counseling encouraging the fundamentals and value of communication,

The entire website is based on the importance of literature.  If you write anything based on integrated creativity, you need to be a part of this writer’s website which is just $10 for a lifetime membership.  If you are not a writer, please donate to the importance of this website and writing skills taught well.  thanks so much, Samantha Leboeuf/dailywisdomwords.com. RUMINATION “DO YOU FIND YOURSELF RUMINATING?”

OUR DAILY WISDOM WORD TODAY IS RUMINATION.  I JUST RECENTLY HEARD SOMEONE USE THIS WORD AND WONDERED WHAT IT MEANT.  WE WILL START OFF WITH THE DEFINITION OF IT FROM OUR WEBSTER DICTIONARY AND THE DAILY WISDOM WORD DEFINITION.  WEBSTER DEFINITION OF RUMINATION-1.  OBSESSIVE THINKING ABOUT AN IDEA, SITUATION, OR CHOICE ESPECIALLY WHEN IT INTERFERES WITH NORMAL MENTAL FUNCTIONING.  2.  A FOCUSING ON ONE’S ATTENTION ON NEGATIVE OR DISTRESSING THOUGHT OR FEELINGS THAT WHEN EXCESSIVE OR PROLONGED MAY LEAD TO OR EXCERBATE AN EPISODE OF DEPRESSION.  DAILY WISDOM WORD DEFINITION-TO BE DEEP IN THOUGHT AND OBSESSION ABOUT ONE IDEA AND WORRY LEADING TO DEPRESSION..  I MUST SAY THIS WORD HAS MADE ME THINK, NOT TO THE RUMINATION STAGE BUT CLOSE.  I DO SUFFER WITH DEPRESSION AND OFTEN WONDER WHAT I CAN DO TO OVERCOME IT.  I DO HAVE A TENDENCY TO OVER ANALYSE SITUATIONS BY OVERTHINKING THEM.  IF I THINK TOO HARD ABOUT SOMETHING, IT MAY EVEN LEAD TO A DEPRESSIVE EPISODE.  I HAVEN’T BEEN AWARE I DO THIS, SO THIS JUST PROVES TO ME IT IS INVALUABLE AND ENLIGHTENING TO KNOW THE DEFINITIONS OF AS MANY WORDS AS POSSIBLE.  I DID A LITTLE RESEARCH ON “RUMINATION” AND FOUND IT TO BE ONE OF THE LEADING CAUSES OF DEPRESSION.  PERHAPS, THERE IS A HEALTHY BALANCE BETWEEN BEING A DEEP THINKER TO AN OBSESSIVE ONE.  I FEEL IF YOU OBSESS ON THOUGHTS TOO LONG, ACTION IS PROLONGED WITH ANYTHING.  FOR EXAMPLE, I OFTEN MAKE A PLAN IN MY HEAD.  ONCE I BEGIN TO THINK ABOUT THIS ACTION, MY THOUGHTS OVERCOME MY ACTIONS.  I THEN FEEL DEPRESSED BECAUSE I END UP NOT GOING THROUGH WITH THE ACTION ITSELF.  THIS IS “RUMINATION LEADING TO DEPRESSION”.  RUMINATING OFTEN CREATES ANXIETY AND NEEDLESS WORRY.  THEY OFTEN SAY, “AN IDLE MIND IS THE DEVIL’S WORKSHOP”.  I WOULD DEFINITELY COMPARE THIS TO RUMINATION.  AS I HAVE MENTIONED IN PAST POSTS, WHEN WE FIND OURSELVES IN DEEP THOUGHT IN A REFLECTIVE STAGE, IF WE WERE COGNIZANT OF EACH THOUGHT TO BEGIN WITH, WE WOULD HAVE MORE CONTROL OVER OUR EMOTIONS.  ACTIVELY ATTENDING TO EACH THOUGHT WILL ALLOW US TO DIRECT OUR THINKING.  PERHAPS THEN, WE WILL FIND OURSELVES IN A HEALTHIER PLACE WHEN OUR THOUGHTS HIT THE LANDING STRIP.  ONE EXERCISE I HAVE FOUND TO BE BENEFICIAL IS TO END A SET OF THOUGHTS OR THOUGHTS THAT ARE IN ONE GROUP ABOUT A PARTICULAR SUBJECT, TO INSERT ONE ACTION AFTER THIS SET OF THOUGHTS.  IN OTHER WORDS, DIRECTING EACH RELATED THOUGHT TO AN ACTION, REGARDLESS OF HOW WE FEEL.  THANKS SO MUCH FOR READING ABOUT RUMINATION TODAY!  SAMANTHA LEBOEUF/DAILYWISDOMWORDS.COM

OPINIONS “WHEN TO SHARE THEM AND WHEN NOT TO”

We all have opinions.  We all have a certain way we expect things should be.  Opinions are different from facts.  Opinions are the things we feel strongly about and are based on our own ideas.  However, just because we have an opinion, does not mean It is a fact.  I sometimes express my opinion when I have not been asked to express what it is.

Because opinions are not based on facts, and each one of us have our own, some opinions may flow with another person’s and some opinions will also be in disagreement of another.  Opinions stretch all the way from religious philosophy to voting rights.  This is why we find some opinions controversial.  There are many people out there that have very firm opinions for everything, and they don’t appear to concur with many of my opinions.  I have a hard time understanding extreme beliefs or strong opinions as I am opinionated myself.

However, it is not my place to judge another’s opinion.  It is often difficult for me to keep my opinions to myself when I completely disagree with someone.  This is when I must remind myself to keep what I am thinking to myself.  If someone asks us for our opinion on a particular subject, this is when they have invited us to share our opinion.  Often when people are talking, they simply need someone to listen.  They truly don’t want our opinions but they do want us to listen and give active biofeedback rephrasing another’s words which is much different than giving our opinion.

Let us take a look at the definition of opinions in our Webster Dictionary and the daily wisdom word definition.

Webster definition of opinions-A view or judgement formed about something, not necessarily based on fact or knowledge.

Daily Wisdom Word Definition of opinions-a viewpoint or bias we have that may or may not be based on the factual situation.

Both of these definitions indicate what I mentioned above in regards to opinions.  The question then is when do we give our opinion about something and when do we just listen?  It is best, even when we have a strong opinion in regards to any subject, we should keep it to ourselves unless:  1.  We are asked what our opinion is.  2.  in controversial conversation where an opinion is warranted when others are expressing their thoughts in a debate setting.  3.  When we stand for something we believe in and an “action” is required.  IE., voting, director of a board, owner of a company, a mother parenting a young child, although it is always suggested we listen to our children first giving them a “voice, not a choice”.

Opinions are tricky and hard when we feel strongly about something.  One thing we should always remember is opinions are just that, an opinion.  This does not mean your opinion is right or wrong.  The key is to share opinions when asked for.  There are certain exceptions to sharing our opinions.  I have shared those situations above.  Anything that is controversial warrants listening to others even if only strengthens our resolve.  Thanks so much for reading about opinions today.  What is your opinion on what you’ve just read?  What other situations have I missed which warrant giving your opinion?

Beneath this article is an area to leave your comments and open a dialogue about this daily wisdom word.   We would love to have you be a part of our “writer’s community”.  For now, it is a flat fee to join daily wisdom words for a lifetime-$10.  If you utilize the tools available to you on this website, http://www.dailywisdomwords.com, you will become a better writer!  It does not matter if you are an Author or Poet;  you will become better at your tradecraft with the psychology involved in what we offer.  Join by visiting our website today.

TROUBLE BY ABUH MONDAY ENEOJO

Troubles can be overwhelmingly frustrating. They come when one expects them not and its arrival is quite unwanted. Tell me, who wants trouble to come to him or her just like that? No one!

It may surprise you but the truth is that there are people on this earth who love trouble. Not because of how it makes them think much but the mysterious aftermath of the thoughts that would have left them with emotional issues. Look around you, many people we call successful today were/are masters of trouble.

They made solutions out of the troubles they face and this has , in a good way, helped many people they do not know. if we take a good look at the likes of John D Rockefeller and other successful people we know today, we would undoubtedly see that they created a platform that stood the test of time, out of the troubles they faced during their age as humans.

My point is, we know too well the art of wallowing in trouble and not the art of using these troubles as a pitch to get a gig in life. Gig? Yes, gig. Or don’t you know that you can turn that trouble to things that will eventually make you and others smile.

You see, i decided that i will not, in any situation, wallow in trouble for too long- it is unhealthy. There is no gain doing it. All it does is take away if you let it. What i do when it comes is grab it by the horn. The truth is, I am not scared of it anymore. You should do same.

I will tell you how i overcome trouble as a writer, personally. It may help you as a writer. You see, there are times when i take the train of trouble and i am immediately deafened by its noise. You see, at that point you hear not anything friends say because all you think of is how not to think of it. They may think that you are feigning quaint thoughts but deep down you know that all is really not well with you emotionally.

Thinking on the troubles of life is tiring, i tell you. What i do is write about it, then, i marvel at ingenuity for a while and before you know it, the thought of trouble turns to sweet smiles. If you reading this and you are going through one trouble or another. Stop it! Think on it no more. It is difficult but try turning it to positive energy.

Most of the things i say, were inspired by constant relationship with members of these amazing writing community. Yes, today marks one year at Daily Wisdom Words.

I’m going to leave you with a little poem. Hope it helps.

T is for trouble

S is for smile

S comes before T

So smile, always.

DEEP WATER BY AMERICAN AUTHORS

LYRICS

It comes and goes in waves
It always runs back but it’s never quite the same
Well, I think there’s something wrong with me
Got nothing to believe, can’t you see it on my face
I was going for the title, got hit by your tidal wave, uh
Can’t stay in the shallows, please tell me I won’t wash away
When it pulls me under, will you make me stronger
Will you be my breath through the deep, deep water
Take me farther, give me one day longer
Will you be my breath through the deep, deep water
Ain’t even scratched the surface
Thinking I deserve the dream but I don’t deserve the hurting
I want the flame without the burning
But I can’t find my purpose when I don’t know what my worth is
I was going for the title, got hit by your tidal wave, uh
Can’t stay in the shallows, please tell me I won’t wash away
When it pulls me under, will you make me stronger
Will you be my breath through the deep, deep water
Take me farther, give me one day longer
Will you be my breath through the deep, deep water
When I’m sinking like a stone
At least I know I’m not alone
When I’m sinking like a stone
At least I know I’m not alone
When it pulls me under, will you make me stronger
Will you be my breath through the deep, deep water
Take me farther, give me one day longer…

GRAYS “SHADES OF GRAY “

We make decisions everyday.  Sometimes we as adults living in a world full of controversy,  find  our decisions can’t be answered by saying yes or no.   This is a language analogy I have created, but if you read it, it will make sense to you.  I view questions that are simple, answered best in black or white.  For example, if I ask you, ” how often do you brush your teeth?”  The answer I will be elicit from you will be a “black and white” answer because we can answer this question from a base of knowledge based on facts and habit patterns well established.  I could also ask you a question like this:  “How old are you?”  The answer would be very simple,  falling in an end spectrum of black or white.  However, what if I asked you how you feel about your belief system like your ideas on how to raise a child?

The answer for this kind of question is not usually black and white but somewhere in the middle.  The answer sometimes, falls into the gray.  Now, let’s take a look at the Webster Meaning of Gray.

Webster Definition of Gray-A color with intermediate shades between black or white.  for example, an ashened sky.

Daily Wisdom Word Definition of Gray-1. a word that represents a mixture of black with white.  2.  an answer that is considered to have various perspectives and differences to a question that is more complicated than relaying a fact.

Today we live in a world that is clearly “gray”.  This world seems much more complicated for us than it did in the 1950’s.  Sometimes, when the subject of a question is complicated, so is the answer.  You may also be very analytical like me.  In this case, you may not feel you’ve answered a question from your heart if you give the black and white answer you view as more complicated.  I know this is true for me.  I have a hard time answering most questions without an answer involving the gray.  There are simply too many aspects and perspectives to my answer, I don’t feel right answering with a simple black and white answer like yes and no.  If I did this, it would go against who I am.

The more technology and knowledge we gain, our answers become answers in the gray.  If someone asks us our political beliefs and we are on the fence about them, because independent voter is in the middle, we answer in a variety of grays.  Gray is and has always been a color described as non-discreet but answers that fall within the various shades of gray or even are gray are not easy answers to give.  It is so important in our world to realize that answering in the “grays” requires much more explanation if someone has asked your opinion on something you have that can’t be answered with a black or white answer.

What I would really like others to understand. as well as those who read this post is life is complicated.  You may have to seek answers in the gray, when you are asking what is best to do for yourself or another.  There will always be with this kind of question many different aspects and facts you have to look at.  These gray questions as I call them, require us to weigh many different pros and cons.  Often, we find ourselves choosing the best solution to our question, because our answers available are not perfect and factual.

We are forced to make a decision as to what is best for ourselves or someone we are responsible for.  These kinds of answers always fall, “in the gray”.  These answers are far from perfect but they are the “best answer” we are able to come up with. This is hard on us, because without a perfect and easy question, we are forced to pick the best option for our particular situation.  Because we care so much for the other party in this case, we must think and think weighing pros and cons to all solutions possible.  The hardest decisions I have had to make fall into “the grays”.

I remember when I had breast cancer.  They gave me a choice of a mastectomy or a lumpectomy.  There were many cons in my mind about which choice would be best.  This is probably when I first began thinking, “there are no perfect decisions in life”.  The only option we do have, is to take what information we do know and choose the least complex answer.  These kinds of answers only come when we decide what works better for us based on our circumstances. Not only do these answers prove most difficult to find a solution for, but there is a greater margin of error.

We do choose what we think may be best but sometimes, not matter what the facts are, we make a mistake and pick the wrong gray answer when we see the outcome of our decision.  My choice with the breast cancer was to get a lumpectomy.  I just couldn’t bear the thought of losing what I viewed as a part of me. This decision has cost me in some ways, having to be more diligent with breast examinations always looking over my shoulder for the cancer to return.

Please don’t beat yourself up over a decision you had to make, if it turns out to be the wrong one.  Many of us blame ourselves when things don’t work out as we had hoped, but we did do our best to find the proper solution.  We are human beings who make mistakes no matter how much thought we may put into something.  May God Bless You All.

CAN POETRY BE FICTION BY ABUH MONDAY ENEOJO

Poetry is one art that can- in all age- be used to express the inner most thoughts of men but these thoughts we read everyday could just be a quick fix for fame and other things the zenith presents or just a fluke.

Many people ask if poetry is fiction since it is under the aegis of imagination and exaggeration. What do you think? Yes or No?

Yes. It could be fiction but I doubt the possibilities if we are to consider William Wordsworth’s definition of the term.

No. Because you see, poetry comes from what is felt. And what you feel, I think, is real. It is something that is so genuine; it cannot be adulterated except a poet wills it.

What do you think? Can poetry be fiction?
