Martial arts and poetry: is there a relationship?

So, I closed my eyes to sleep and lay off thoughts that refused me a sight and one of them tapped me some few minutes into the act of night.

Awake, I wondered on my bed as I saw sleep saying farewell and the disturbing question rushing in with head like that of an angry bull racing for it’s liberty.

Martial arts and Poetry: is there a relationship? For some weird reasons, reasons that I cannot fathom at the moment, I don’t know where the question came from. Do we really know where such things come from? That’s another question from this question.

I am definitely not a martial artist but I throw punches and kicks with the words I pen on paper. That’s not all, like other amazing writers, I break bricks, tons of bricks, with my pen.

Martial arts and Poetry: is there a relationship? Google …No! YouTube was the next bus stop and viola, I stumbled on a martial artist who is known for his effective forms of teaching martial arts in his time.

I’ll ask the question again. Martial arts and Poetry: is there a relationship? Let’s take this approach to the answer to this question that stole sleep from my eyes.

I will turn you on with Bruce Lee’s philosophy of martial arts. He said

… emotion portrays motion

Okay. Watch his 1971 interview on Pierre Berton show in Hong Kong. He is in the best position to answer the question.

I played a fast one on you, right? Actually, I answered the question before you watched Bruce Lee’s interview with Pierre Berton. Did you notice that?

NEW AND NORMAL

The new normal with Coronavirus is social distancing, wearing of face masks and washing our hands each time just to be safe. You may want to ask if that’s the new normal even with the pftizer vaccine.

Covid-19: Fears and Alleviation

On TV this morning, I saw the supposed stadium that will be used for Tokyo Olympics 2021 and it dawned on me…the seats in their thousands will be empty because of the coronavirus virus.

That’s not all. These wonders of creativity were built to bring men together; to unite them but now we have come to a point we avoid crowds for our safety.

Coronavirus and Vaccine

My prayer is that other government of the world follow the steps of the newly elected president of the United States, Joe Biden, in controlling the spread of Coronavirus. The question is, is this the new normal?

Okay. Let’s talk about it on Daily Wisdom Words.

I NEVER KNEW ZIGGY MARLEY

Article by Abuh Monday Eneojo.

If you are not careful, you would definitely give the man in the picture above the name of the late iconic Jamaican reggae star who was controversial in his outspoken support for the legalization of marijuana and ardent advocacy for pan-Africanism.

I guess Ziggy’s case is clearly: when I see my father, I see who I will be. That, in it’s on way, is beyond every doubt the truth. I say this because he is a spitting example of his late father, Bob Marley.

Before we go any further, I’d like you to watch his interview with ABC news.

You may not know Ziggy Marley. Don’t beat yourself about it- I did not know he existed too. It was some beautiful and captivating three hours ago that I knew such a person existed.

Marriage: is it just a piece of paper?

I’ll tell you how he came into the scene. So, he was featured as a guest judge in a cooking show, Chopped Junior, and I was like ‘damn, this is a spitting image of Bob!’

Picture of Ziggy Marley show semblance with his father
Bob Marley (left) and Ziggy Marley (right)

Yes. I am a foodie. In fact, my close friends refer to my hands as spoons because of my culinary arts. I’ll tell you what they call me: o’ lowo shibi. Don’t tell anyone.

When I saw him on the show, the cooking show, I was certain he was somehow related to Bob Marley whom I love very much.

Talking about loving Bob Marley’s song. My love for his genre of music is under the aegis of the protestant me; the revolutionary side that yearns for a platform to speak audaciously but only speaks in his glass. That’s frustrating, right? Hakuna matata!

Okay. Ziggy Marley. Why am I writing about him on Daily Wisdom Words today? The title of this article answers the question expressly.

I never knew Ziggy Marley! A musician, who according to him sings his father’s song as his song, is a musician, lover of food (I must add this), and an author of seven books.

You know what, I am just going to pause here so I can go through this article again because I really do not want to miss the vitals.

It’s upsetting to think that Bob Marley is late. I’ll take a cue from Amanda Gorman: even as if grieve we grew…

I was quite young when Bob died and my father would play his songs over and over again via a compact disc. He made me love him. His favorite track, I think is, I shot the sheriff. Let me just say it. I miss Bob.

Iconic Jamaican reggae star

Seeing his son, Ziggy Marley, gave me chills. I literally stared at him on TV each time the camera was on him and I would wonder. He is a consolation to lovers of Bob Marley.

February 6. I’d like you to save the date. It’s going to be Bob Marley Day.

UNASHAMED: A POEM BY ABUH MONDAY ENEOJO

Writing this, unashamed,

may be quite lame;

I will take this blade

so I get not the tame.

Neatly, she gazed-

with words hazy-

at nothing same

as was I eight.

Closely, lips loosed

as hips felt like whips

the skin of a fair victim

in sweet touches of pain.

She chiseled her oily

charm on what spoke:

“Let me share me you”

Those words ushered us.

THE SUICIDE ARTICLE BY ABUH MONDAY ENEOJO

There is a painstakingly ridiculous way to die; trying not to die. Addressing suicide has been quite ludicrous and most people, especially psychologists, have tried to come to a point they get to say for sure the reason people take or try to take their own lives in the world today.

Psychologists believe that depression is the sole reason for suicide. Do you agree? Well, I am not in anyway going to dispute that fact, no. I will not. I have this to say about it. Yes, depression is the sole reason for suicide in the world today. The problem is, people are now so skilled in the art of hiding pain with almost deceitful smile which is a big problem when you really want to help.

This was the reason I started a free hug campaign in 2019, a year that featured an increase in suicide rate in Nigeria, India and other countries. All i could think of was hug anyone intimately and ask if they were okay. It was very effective. You cannot hide anything from me at that point even if you want to.

Everyone feels down at some point and this singular act begets a rush of depressing and most times angry thoughts that pollinates an utmost dramatic flare. Well, regret is the next plot in the story and most people choose not to tell it. They prefer  to live with the trauma of trying not to think themselves as killers. READ SAMANTHA LEBOEUF ARTICLE ON REGRET TO KNOW MORE ABOUT REGRET

I have my own fair share of regret. It may be minute but I hate it when I see the scar of my arm. I was so damn angry that evening that I had to go buy a blade and…

The easy way out is not in any way the way out. It is only the way in! The sooner you realize it. The better it will be. #SayNoToSuicide

Is the sun a star by Abuh Monday Eneojo

The moon is light but the sun shines.

Abuh Monday Eneojo

You may want to put the aforementioned question in perspective due to its relative nature so you don’t get a loosed conclusion.

Is the sun a star?

The question came to me this morning and I wasn’t quick to answer the question.

If you ask me, I will without hesitation tell you yes but what you may not know are my reasons.

HELP SOMEONE OUT THERE TODAY BY DONATING

Stars beautify the firmament. They are different things to different people based on function. Some people study them to tell you what is to come and like sailors, find there way back to land.

If we should go by a story in the Holy Bible, the story of the birth of Jesus which to me is not really out of context in this case, a clear picture of how a star was used as a map will find us a place in the land of understanding this article.

The wise men, three of them, were directed by a star. Now back to the question. Is the sun a star?

At this point, you may already know my reasons but I have a feeling that what you know is a bit a hazy and you just want to go pass what you know to what I think I know. Is it?

Yes. It is a star of day. When it gets tired it withdraws gently into the sea and hands over to little balls and of course, the moon.

WISH AND STAR

Happy New year to you 🎄

Hi,

How are you doing today? I know 2020 may have been rough and tough. We all had our own fair share of it’s excesses.

I may be tempted to bring one or two things from @slleboeuf previous post, Rippling, but I will not- atleast not yet.

If you take a good look at the picture above, the man is searching from a distance, a star. My question is why wait for a star to make a wish when you can create one?

Guys, make a wish with a poem. The star is on Daily Wisdom Words Picture prompt today.

Let’s talk about it.

FEAR: WEAKNESS OR STRENGTH

by: Abuh Monday Eneojo

The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.

Nelson Mandela

Hello,

How are you doing today? I’m glad you made it to this article. I’ll be talking about fear from a me perspective in a while but before that, I’d like to welcome you and ask you to join us by clicking on BECOME A MEMBER.

Okay. Let’s get to it. Fear! It one thing people fear in our society. The sound or knowledge of danger is always approached with utter caution.

Often times I ask myself why people scare easily but the answer did not come to me until I started typing this article.

Some months ago, I was heading to church with high hopes of getting to church on time as I walked, hastily.

I never knew…no, I knew there were dogs around but the thought evaded my mind at that time because all I could think of was how to get to church on time.

I was gobsmacked when I heard violent barks coming my way. Shock became a companion. My heart raced because I was scared. That wasn’t the first time 😁

You see, fear comes when you desire not hurt, cannot control a scenario and when things come without prior knowledge of their arrival.

I may be wrong but I feel it right because like you, I have my own fair share of fear.

The question now is, is fear a negative or positive vibe? Is it a sign of weakness or strength?

What do you think?

TREES AND SUNSET

WATER AND DROP

Thoughts of how i played under the rain as a child flooded my head when i beheld the image you now see above. It was quite fun because we never care who looked at us as we danced and let drops of water beat our naked body. Don’t be shy. I’m sure you know what i am talking about.

Taking the piss by Abuh Monday Eneojo

Believe in your art and it’ll live.

Abuh Monday Eneojo

Personal research shows that most young writers as well as those advanced in age face esteem issues in the art of writing. It may surprise you but it is the truth. Most people are scared of sharing their art to friends talk more of the world.

Not too long ago, a friend of mine on Twitter posted a poem and we got the chance of extending the conversation to a very soulful dialogue. She told me that she does not post her poems because of what people say and do not say about it.

The latter suggests the low outcome of likes and retweet on Twitter when she posts such poems. In my previous article, http://dailywisdomwords.com/daily-wisdom-words/why-you-need-a-writing-community-by-abuh-monday-eneojo/ , i talked about some reasons why people may not want to consider your art. You may want to check it out.

For me, considering the statistics of people who react to my art is quintessential but i don’t let it deaden my art for any reason- it just is not worth it. Why worry? I’m passed that already. Believe in your art and it’ll live! You don’t need people to first affirm the ingenuity you carry in your art.

Believe in your art and it’ll live in you. Then and only then will it extend like wild fire to others. Cheer up! You’re one great writer. There’s none like you.

Please leave me a comment if this article helps you in anyway.

CAN POETRY BE FICTION BY ABUH MONDAY ENEOJO

Poetry is one art that can- in all age- be used to express the inner most thoughts of men but these thoughts we read everyday could just be a quick fix for fame and other things the zenith presents or just a fluke.

Many people ask if poetry is fiction since it is under the aegis of imagination and exaggeration. What do you think? Yes or No?

Yes. It could be fiction but I doubt the possibilities if we are to consider William Wordsworth’s definition of the term.

No. Because you see, poetry comes from what is felt. And what you feel, I think, is real. It is something that is so genuine; it cannot be adulterated except a poet wills it.

What do you think? Can poetry be fiction?

LET’S DISCUSS…TELL ME WHAT YOU THINK VIA THE COMMENT BOX.
