Daily Wisdom Word Definition-1.  The feeling of guilt one feels after doing something they are not proud of

I have felt compunction often when I have done something I am not proud of or feel guilty about.  I remember being in a big hurry to pick up a prescription, and parking my car at the front of the store in an illegal area in the parking lot.  It is a miracle I didn’t get a ticket because of sheer luck.  I felt compunction then, because I knew I was doing something wrong.

I have felt compunction when I have said or did something that hurt another person’s feelings by mistake.  I tend to be very honest with someone when they ask for my advice and I tell them directly what their role in the situation is.  I sometimes, however can be too direct, and felt really bad when I see their face react when I have been too blunt.

Compunction is a feeling that someone who is narcissistic or sociopathic does not feel.  Narcissists find a way in their mind to turn the situation around and make whatever has been said or done the other person’s fault whereas sociopaths have no ability or conscience to feel the guilt associated with compunction.

When we feel compunction, it can be positive because it can be turned into a learning experience, analysing our own behavior to see what our role is when having conflict with another person.
