Of course, you may have seen an ad on our social media platforms asking if there is any rich writer in the world. Sure, we do have a reasonable amount of rich writers in the world but the number cannot be compared to other writers who try to publish a single manuscript. William Wordsworth had his own share of this and that is the reason why he had to self-publish.

I think that is the best way to publish these days but without the right platform getting the desired audience may seem a little bit slow. Have you been trying to publish a book? Let’s talk about it. COMMUNICATION SKILLS-PART 3 “PAINTING A PICTURE”

COMMUNICATION SKILLS TOUCH ON EVERY ASPECT OF OUR LIVES.  WHETHER WE ARE A WRITER, READER, SPEAKER, OR ARTIST, USING DESCRIPTIONS TO “PAINT A PICTURE” IS ONE KEY OF COMMUNICATION NOT OFTEN DISCUSSED.  PAINTING A PICTURE MEANS DESCRIBING ORALLY, IN WRITING, OR A PAINTING THAT AN ARTIST WISHES TO CONVEY A SPECIFIC MESSAGE IN, PAINTING A PICTURE IS VITAL TO KEEP OUR MESSAGE INTERESTING.  IN ORDER FOR US TO PAINT A PICTURE, WE MUST FIRST SEE IT IN OUR MINDS.  IF WE ARE A WRITER, AND HAVE A SPECIFIC STORYLINE, DOING A GREAT JOB “PAINTING A PICTURE” CAN MEAN THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A READER HAVING A PIEICE OF YOUR VISION OR A BORING READ.  

WHEN WE COMMUNICATE, WE MUST SET THE STAGE OR PAINT A PICTURE WITH THE PROPER WORDS THAT ARE DESCRIPTIVE AND LIVELY  OF OUR BACKGROUND AND  CONVEY TO THE READER WITH ADJECTIVES, AND ADVERBS THE ERA IN WHICH THE STORY WE WRITE IS SET IN, ESPECIALLY IF OUR STORY IS TIME SENSITIVE.  FOR EXAMPLE, SET BACK IN THE EARLY 1900’S.   WE NEED TO SET THE BACKGROUND PICTURE IN CONTEXT REGARDLESS.  THE READER NEEDS TO BE ABLE TO FEEL AS WE DO WHEN WE WRITE THE STORY.  IF IT IS SET IN A TIME ERA, RESEARCH SHOULD BE DONE BY THE AUTHOR SO HE OR SHE CAN PAINT A CLEAR PICTURE.  IF THE TIMELINE IS NOT CLEAR, THE STORYLINE CAN BE NEGATIVELY AFFECTED.  IF THE ERA OR TIME THE STORY IS SET IN DOES NOT HAVE PROPER DESCRIPTIVES, THE WRITER WON’T CONVEY  CLEARLY THE ERA THE STORY IS SET IN FOR THE READER .  WHAT IS THE  SCENERY SURROUNDING THE CHARACTERS, HOW IS THE ARCHITECTURE IF IN A SPECIFIC COUNTRY WHERE ARCHITECTURE PLAYS A ROLE IN OUR SETTING, AND HELP THE READER GETS LOST AND CONNECT TO OUR STORY.  THIS “CONNECTION OR PICTURE” INCLUDING  DESCRIBING THE WEATHER SURROUNDING THER CHARACTERS  DOES NOT HAPPEN FOR THE READER IF A CLEAR PICTURE ISN’T PAINTED.  

AS WRITERS, WE KNOW READER’S LOVE A GREAT DESCRIPTION.  THERE ARE MANY REASONS WHY THIS IS THE CASE, THE MAIN REASON BEING IT ALLOWS THEM TO CONNECT BETTER WITH THE CHARACTERS IN THE BOOK, OUR SCENARIO PAINTED, AND FRANKLY READER’S ENJOY FEELING THEY ARE IN THE PICTURE WE PAINT.  I HOPE THIS BROUGHT TO LIGHT HOW IMPORTANT IT IS TO PAINT A GREAT SCENE THEY CAN CONNECT WITH.  THIS IS ALSO TRUE WHEN WE ARE PUBLICLY SPEAKING IN GIVING A DETAILED PICTURE OF HOW OR WHEN OR WHY OR WHAT OCCURRED SURROUNDING THE EVENTS WE ARE SPEAKING ABOUT.  THANKS SO MUCH FOR READING,

IDEAS AND YOU

Starting this writing prompt with this idea based question is really germane for me because I’d really want to know what you think about it.

What happens when you run out of ideas?

You see, initially, that was not the way the question presented itself to me. Not withstanding, it still is the question I wanted to ask. Where is this coming from? It is coming from my inability to get a topic and words for Daily Wisdom Words Picture Poetry Prompt. The process was quite alarming. The good news is that instead of sulking on what was to be the discourse for today, I in my own sheer will and knowledge decided to use the state of my mind as the discourse. Isn’t that an intelligent move? A clap is due for that act.

What happens when you run out of ideas? It is quite simple. You pace mentally until you get exactly what you want or something similar to it. Most times, we actually do not get and this may lead to headache or migraine depending on how well we try to get these ideas out. I know you can relate to this. OUR BRAINS BECOME EXTREMELY ACTIVE WHEN WE WRITE, ESPECIALLY CREATIVELY.  OFTENTIMES WE USE MORE NEURONS AND ACTIVATE AREAS IN BOTH SIDES OF THE BRAIN WHICH IS DIFFICULT TO HAVE HAPPEN.  THERE ARE NOT MANY THINGS WE CAN DO IN LIFE THAT INTERFACES BOTH PARTS OF OUR BRAIN.  THIS IS PART OF THE REASON I FOUNDED DAILY WISDOM WORDS. 

I SEE LITERATURE STUDIES THAT WERE ONCE PART OF MANDATED COURSES IN YEARS KINDERGARTEN- TWELFTH GRADE  A THING OF THE PAST.  OF COURSE, WE FOCUS PARTIALLY ON ENGLISH AND VOCABULARY, BUT THE TEACHING OF THE HISTORY OF LITERATURE IS NOT REQUIRED IN MANY BASIC CURRICULUMS AS IT ONCE WAS.  LET US TAKE A LOOK AT THE BASIC DEFINITION OF WRITING FROM OUR WEBSTER DICTIONARY. 

WEBSTER DEFINITION OF WRITING-1.  THE ACTIVITY OR SKILL OF MARKING COHERENT WORDS ON PAPER AND COMPOSING TEST.  2.  A SEQUENCE OF LETTERS, WORDS, OR SYMBOLS MARKED ON PAPER OR SOME OTHER SURFACE.  3.  HANDWRITING.  4.  BOOKS, STORIES, ARTICLES, OR OTHER WRITTEN WORKS.

CHAPTERS

What do I mean when I am talking about the chapters in our lives ?  First, let’s take a look at the meaning of chapters from the Webster Dictionary that apply to what I am referring to.

Chapters-a period of time or an episode in a person’s life , a nation’s history, ect.  2.  A series or sequence.  3.  A main division of a book, typically with a number or title.

Daily Wisdom Word Definition of Chapters-1.  Parts of our life that have an opening and a closing to them.  2.  Separations in life who’s meaning is of great importance which would bring us to a new point in life or new chapter.

The beginning or end of a period in one’s life are called chapter’s.  They may not often be referred to as chapters, but if you look at the definition of one, it truly means chapters.  For example, when I went through my divorce with Jay we had a beginning, middle and ending of our relationship resulting in one chapter in our life. Chapters are markers of when something big or important has gone on in our lives.

It can also mean moving from childhood, to our teenage years. These are definitely chapters in ones life, because we have passed a milestone in our lives, and it’s time to close this chapter and move on to a new chapter.  Chapters are marked events in one’s life such as a graduation from high school or college.  These chapters that pass, are the stepping stones to a new chapter in our lives.  There are new things that will happen as you close the book on one chapter and turn the page to another.

Chapters can also be written in our lives where there are not such dramatic events that have happened.  For instance let’s say your graduating from college and have been hired by a company before you graduate.  These chapters are not as extreme as the previous example of simply graduating not knowing what is to come.  Sometimes in life, we are actively writing chapters and sometimes in life, particularly when something happens in your life you have no preparation for, we are actively living chapters written by another Author such as God.

We can’t always be the author of the chapters in our lives, because we aren’t in full control of all the events that happen in our lives.

Hopefully, this has given you something to think about when life seems to be at a standstill.  There is always a chapter being written that we may not be aware of, and this is when our faith is often tested.  Remember, when life seems at standstill, you’re not in full control of events that happen, therefore, you aren’t always the writer in your own book.

I had a friend who wanted badly to be in a relationship and had lost faith that it would ever happen for her.  Amazingly, one night in this era of time for her, she went out country western dancing and met a wonderful man.  Even though she had children living with her from a previous marriage, this man and her fell in love, and everything fell right in place in a period of two weeks.  This was obviously a chapter my friend wanted to write, but it was taken out of her hands.  After all, how often is it that you meet someone and in a period of two weeks, know you want to spend the rest of your lives together?

Margaret, my friend, wrote the next few chapters in her life, along with her husband as they were married a month in their relationship.   They were given a gift, and took full advantage of it.
