QUIRKS “WE ALL HAVE THEM”

QUIRKS WILL BE OUR DAILY WISDOM WORD TODAY.  WE ALL HAVE THOSE “QUIRKS” WHICH MAKE US UNIQUE AND SPECIAL.  THESE QUIRKS AREN’T PERSONALITY FLAWS AS WE MAY THINK.  THEY ARE THE INTRIGUING PART OF WHO WE ARE.  BEFORE GOING ANY FURTHER, LET US TAKE A LOOK AT THE MEANING OF QUIRKS IN OUR WEBSTER DICTIONARY AND OF COURSE,  OUR DAILY WISDOM WORD MEANING FOR QUIRKS. 

WEBSTER DICTIONARY MEANING OF QUIRKS-1.  A PECULIAR BEHAVIORAL HABIT.  A STRANGE CHANCE OCCURRENCE. 

DAILY WISDOM WORD MEANING OF QUIRKS-SOMETHING UNIQUE ABOUT US THAN MAKES US WHO WE ARE. 

DO YOU KNOW WHAT YOUR QUIRKS ARE THAT MAKE YOU WHO YOU ARE, UNIQUELY EXPRESSED THROUGH YOUR PERSONALITY?  I KNOW I HAVE QUIRKS.  FOR EXAMPLE, SOMETIMES WHEN DOING THE HOUSEWORK, I WILL BREAK THE REGIMENTATION UP WITH THE SPECIFIC THINGS NEEDED TO BE DONE AND START ONE STEP OF ONE CHORE, AND TWO STEPS OF ANOTHER, AND ANOTHER.   ODD?  YES, BUT IT IS NOT THE TYPICAL WAY OF PEOPLE DO THEM.  QUIRKS CAN BE LOOKED AT IN TWO DIFFERENT WAYS.  WE CAN LOOK AT THEM THROUGH THE EYES OF “THOSE QUALITIES THAT MAKE US UNIQUE, DIFFERENT AND SPECIAL OR WE CAN SEE THEM AS FLAWS. 

THE CHOICE IS OURS BUT PERSONALLY I LIKE TO VIEW MY QUIRKS AS WHAT MAKES ME WHO I AM IN AS POSITIVE LIGHT AS POSSIBLE.  I AM ALWAYS SETTING MYSELF UP FOR CHALLENGES AND OFTEN WANT TO MAKE PEOPLE LAUGH EVEN THOUGH OFTEN, MY JOKES SIMPLY ARE NOT THAT FUNNY.  MY SON ALSO HAS QUIRKS WITH THE FIRST THING COMING TO MIND HIS UNIQUE AND OFTEN SARCASTIC SENSE OF HUMOR. 

WE CAN TRULY VIEW THESE THINGS ABOUT OURSELVES AS WEIRD, STRANGE THINGS ABOUT OURSELVES OR WE CAN LOOK AT THEM AS POSITIVES.  THE CHOICE IS OURS.  BY THE WAY, ONE OF THE REASON I CHOSE QUIRKS AS OUR DAILY WISDOM WORD TODAY IS BECAUSE OF THE POINT I JUST MADE ABOUT IT BEING OUR CHOICE AS TO HOW WE VIEW OUR QUIRKS.  THIS IS ALSO TRUE WITH MANY OTHER THINGS IN LIFE.  WE HAVE A CHOICE AS TO HOW WE VIEW THINGS.  WE CAN SEE OUR QUIRKS AS STRANGE AND WEIRD OR UNIQUE QUALITIES THAT MAKE US WHO WE ARE.  WE HAVE THE CHOICE TO SEE EVERYTHING AS A POSITIVE OR NEGATIVE.  OFTEN TIMES WE THERE ARE SO MANY THINGS OUT OF OUR CONTROL. 

THE ONE THING THAT WE CAN CONTROL IS THE CHOICE WE MAKE WITH THE PERSPECTIVES ON HOW WE SEE THINGS.

ORIGINALITY

WE ARE ALL CREATIVE AND GIFTED WITH ORIGINALITY.  THERE IS ONLY ONE “YOU” IN THIS ENTIRE WORLD.  I Find it fascinating that we are all different, original and unique. Your  originality is seen sometimes visual.  You look different than everyone else.  You are special and unique.  I am going to take this one step further.  Who we are is divided into three parts.  Our soul, mind and body.  Each of these qualities are original.  We all have periods in life when our originality needs to shine, and it feels as if it doesn’t. 

We don’t realize we will stand out from others not by coloring our hair pink, or dressing with clothing that stands out or piercing our tongue.  We stand out when we allow our soul to shine.  We stand out where it counts.  We speak our opinion expressing our voice.  This in and of itself is originality within yourself.  If you want to dye your hair pink, or  get piercings, or tattoos go for it.  My point in bringing it up is we do not need these things to be original.  We are born original.  If you decide to get a piercing, dye your hair green, do it because you like it! 

This is a reason to definitely go for those options “if it is simply because you like it”.  If you do something to change who you are even if it is to better yourself, building on your own foundation, that is awesome.  Never compromise your originality to be someone else’s idea of who you should be or change yourself for others.  We lose some of our originality when we try to “fit in”. Your originality is the one thing that is who you are and yours alone.  I see us making decisions to be or do someone that we are not, making decisions that  make ourselves stand out.  Let us take a peak at the meaning of originality in our Webster Dictionary and the daily wisdom word definition. 

Webster Definition of originality-1.  The ability to think independently and creatively. 

Daily Wisdom Word Definition-1.  the core of our being or soul.  

This is not why you should be doing whatever it is you feel will make you fit in with a friend, a boyfriend, or a whole circle of friends.  Real self-confidence is found in originality that is internal and this originates from your core.  It shows in your personality, your actions, and who you are.  Don’t give your originality up for anyone.  Do not change for others to “make things work”.  Inside we need to remember we are special in and of ourselves and to change this for someone else is simply not worth the sacrifice we would be making with our originality.  If you are working on behavior “together” looking for a middle ground, this is not compromising your originality.  It is your inner strength and heart wanting to compromise to make a relationship work because it is worth it and is done with your partner who modifies some things for you as well.   Thanks so much for reading about “originality” today.  I hope something in this writing touches you in some way.  If it does, please share beneath this post and “join the discussion”.

SIGNATURES

WHAT MAKES YOU SPECIAL?  WHAT IS YOUR SIGNATURE?  YOUR SIGNATURE IS THE UNIQUE TOUCH AND PERSONALITY YOU HAVE…WE ARE ALL DIFFERENT, BUT OUR SIGNATURE IS WHAT CONFIRMS IT.  WE USE A SIGNATURE TO DETERMINE ONE’S PROOF OF IDENTITY.  I AM USING IT AS EVIDENT PROOF WE ARE ALL UNIQUE AND SPECIAL.

If you are not comfortable with who you are, it is hard to share your own personal signature with others.  Remember;  Signatures are one of a kind, and so are you.  How do we figure out our own personal signature?  How do we share this with others?  For example, my brother has an amazing sense of humor.  It is “his signature”.  It makes up the part of him that stands alone and can’t be copied by anyone.  His humor, although he often uses you to make the joke, is honestly funny.  At first, it is hard not to take his humor to heart if you are a sensitive individual.  Once you get used to it though, you find yourself laughing hard, right along with his audience.  

Which part of your personality is “one of a kind”?  I know for myself, I have the ability to make others feel good about themselves.  Although I may first appear insincere with many compliments, when others get to know me, they feel my sincerity and understand the good I see in them, is the good that exists within their heart.  I would call this my “personal signature”.  I know my best friend also has her unique signature.  She has a way of giving advice in such a logical way that you do see her point, no matter how much you may not want to. 

My daughter has the kindest side of her with others, always thinking of what she can do to make them feel happy, in spite of her own needs.  She manages to make time for it all and her “personal signature” is her ability to be kind, sincere and giving of her time.  

Let us take a look at the Webster Definition of a “signature”.  

Webster Definition of signature-1.  a person’s name written in a distinctive way as a form of identification in authorizing a check or document or concluding a letter.  2.  “A distinctive pattern, product, or characteristic by which someone or something can be identified”.

Daily Wisdom Words Definition-A quality that is distinctive in one’s personality, so unique, they are the only one who has this quality in the capacity of how it is displayed.  

I think at this point, we all should take the time to make a list of all the qualities within ourselves that make us “one of a kind”.  Often in life, we have trouble learning who we really are when we lay our cards down.  Much of this has to do with “fear”.  Fear and past trauma can cause us to withdraw.  Oftentimes, others miss out on seeing who it is that distinguishes you from anyone else.  

By listing your unique qualities, you will start down the road of finding out who you are and what makes you special.  Often, we are not aware of our own unique strengths until life throws us a “curveball” and we are forced to see what we are made of.  I have a feeling we all have more good within our heart and soul than we realize.  Thanks so much for reading about signatures and being “one of a kind”.  Never doubt that you are special.  You may need to do some self-discovery and ask others who you trust, what they think makes you special, unlike any other individual in this world.

EXCEPTIONALISM

What is the difference between being a great person and being an exceptional one?  If one can measure exceptionalism, how much more distance do we have to go to achieve exceptionalism?

Before I give my thoughts on this question, I would first like to see what the actual definition in our Webster Dictionary is for exceptionalism.

Exceptionalism-1.  The condition of being different than the norm  2.  Unusual, not typical.  Unusually good;  outstanding.

Daily Wisdom Word Definition for exceptionalism-Those persons or things that stand out above others, because they shine with beauty in one form or another.

My definition for exceptionalism is different than the Webster Dictionary this time much more than most times.  First of all I don’t believe any of us are ever really “normal”.  For normal to be a definition for human beings when each of us is different more than alike, as we are made to be one of a kind by God, is hard for me to accept.

It is true we should look at our likenesses overall with others, rather than our differences, but we should also know that there is more to being human than our likenesses.  Each of us, each and every one of us has something that makes us exceptional.  Whether or not we choose to develop this is up to us, but I believe in my heart there is still something naturally exceptional we don’t have to work at to be exceptional.   We were born with this one special quality, and this is the very exception when we should focus on our difference from others.

Exceptionalism can be developed in many areas for all of us.  I still however, believe there is something we are born with God gave us we simply “just have been gifted with”.  Exceptionalism is defined as above normal according to the Webster Dictionary, but I would like just one of us to define normalcy when we are all different in one form or another.

The above is my definition of exceptionalism.  I think something that truly makes us exceptional is when we can see the “shine within another.”   I define this by being able to see specifically or at least come close to knowing what makes another person exceptional, after you figure out within you what makes yourself so.

There are those “movie stars, and pro-ball players, and Stars of many kinds, but when you have depth, that exceptionalism of another, isn’t always easily defined, yet your exceptional simply by being able to see what this one particular quality is with another.  This quality is not something “developed”.  It is simply “just there”.

I also believe we are born with qualities we are very good at that we can develop into a different type of exceptionalism so I separate the one natural quality God gives us that makes us exceptional and different than those we have to work at starting with simply being very good at something.

If anything you have read here today, registers, or feels right in some way, I want you to focus on it, because the one quality that naturally makes us exceptional is the “one difference” we don’t have to work at, and we need to be able to define it within ourselves.  This is when it is necessary to have faith and strength, because some of us have to work harder at figuring out what this God-given quality is.

Knowing what makes us exceptional, allows us to help others because we are very clear on what this quality is, and can utilize it to help others.  I feel happy in this moment, writing this, because perhaps, maybe just maybe, this very thing I am writing right now, is what makes me exceptional.  We should be grateful for whatever this quality is that makes us naturally exceptional  and use use it to serve others, and expand ourselves as individuals.

When you are feeling down inside, always keep your shininess clear within your mind, so you can remind yourself of this.  This will not be the quality you have to work at:  It will be so natural, it is simply what makes you truly “special”.
