TODAY’S TOPIC? YOU TELL ME!

“Most of the successful people I’ve known are the ones who do more listening than talking.”
-Bernard Baruch

This is something I’ve done before a few times and still feel it’s never enough. I’m talking about listening.

Yes, I’ve posted and reposted this article a few times. And I continue doing so periodically because I feel it’s crucial in building a relationship with all of you members and readers. And hence, here is that article to give YOU, the reader, your time under the spotlight:

GO AHEAD…GIVE UP (REVISED)

“If someone seriously wants to be a part of your life, they will seriously make an effort to be in it.”
-Unknown

If you’re read my previous articles on this site, you’ll notice that one thing I always stress on is never giving up on anything that’s a passion and close to your heart no matter how many obstacles come in your way. But are there exceptions to that philosophy? Are there instances when giving up will actually be advantageous?

THE MIDDLE GROUND

“Life is never white and black and all or nothing; it is full of greys and the rainbows and all the other in-betweens.”
-McKel (Hill) Kooienga

As I type this, it’s been a few
hours since President Joe Biden was officially sworn in.

At the stage our country (and quite frankly, the world as well) is in, there have been polarizing views everywhere. It seems as if everyone has lost the ability to envision a middle ground.

HEART’S

OUR DAILY WISDOM WORD TODAY IS: HEART’S. WHY AM I CHOOSING THIS WORD?  I MUST SAY OUR WORLD IS IN GREAT NEED OF HEART’S AND THEIR INTER-CONNECTION WITH ANOTHER’S.  WE HAVE PLENTY OF GREAT MINDS, AND STONG OPINIONS IN THE MIX WORKING OVERTIME.   WHERE HAVE OUR HEART’S GONE? DURING THIS HOLIDAY SEASON, SHOULDN’T HEARTS BE IMPORTANT LEADING WITH LOVE?

When we use our heart we have a vision that is completely different than when we use our minds.  We are in the Holiday Season. Sadly, most of us can’t even see our friends and family due to our current pandemic situation. If you would had asked the scientists fighting so very hard to develop a vaccine for this deadly virus just one year ago not impacting any of us, would they say they used their heart or mind?  My guess would be heart first, intelligence next.  They had  to be using more heart than vision and mind. It took plenty of intelligence but it was working from their hearts they found the energy, strength, compassion and view of its importance for all of mankind.

We were full of hope and optimism without the knowledge of a virus that would cause millions to get sick, and many die this year during the holiday season just one year ago!  We need our heart’s now more than ever.  A heart is where our passion and love, compassion and empathy come from. I would think in many of the cases we have seen added into death tolls and people sick, we would see more hearts giving much more love.  Instead we only see more division.  I don’t like to bring politics into any mix but I will say I don’t believe the leader of the United States of America is operating out of heart currently.  He is operating out of a sheer inability to accept defeat and loss.   I am one who doesn’t accept defeat easily myself, so I do understand to a degree, but then again, I don’t represent my country.

The best we can do or be is to “be the example through our actions we wish to set for others”.  It is what we do when we raise our children or the best we can hope to do.  Having and operating with heart means putting love ahead of loss and defeat;  not so much self-love but a genuine love and compassion for others.   Do you think we need more great minds in the mix right now, or “heart’s beating and feeling?”  I know what my answer is and hope this holiday season whether you agree with your neighbor’s opinion or not, you will operate first and foremost with your heart.  What does our heart do?  Our heart loves, full of compassion and empathy full and does every action first, from a position of love.

When was the last time you asked yourself how you were feeling or checked your heartbeat?  Is it strong and sound, placing love above all else or is it operating behind your opinion leaving you filled with division from some and unity with only those who agree with you?  It is time to get it together, people. It is not just you, but me.

I am just as guilty placing opinion before heart, deciding who and what I will discuss and why I feel so strongly about my opinions.  In the end, if today were my last day on earth and it was my day for judgement to be passed to me, would I be more concerned with a healthy heart or a healthy opinion?  It is not from “sheer intelligence” these scientists came up with a vaccine what is at the very least a miracle to this deadly virus.  They wanted first and foremost to save lives.

This energy and passion did not come from their minds although of course their intelligence played second to having heart displayed in all their actions.  They did what they did out of the goodness of their heart first and foremost doing without sleep, working day and night, in the fight to save human lives.  Do you think their strength came from their mind or from their HEARTS?   Just for fun, we will take a look at the definition of hearts in our Webster Dictionary.

Webster Definition of hearts-1. Heart’s-something someone wants very much.  2.  The central or innermost part of something.  a hollow muscular organ that pumps the blood through the circulatory system by rhythmic contraction and dilation.

Daily Wisdom Word Definition-1.  The heart is the center of physical and spiritual being, and is filled with love, passion and blood or the process it takes to circulate blood or emotions such as love and passion.  This is why it has four chambers in a human.  1.  love 2.  passion 3.  hope  4.  capacity of empathy and compassion.  PLEASE EVERYONE, PULL TOGETHER THIS HOLIDAY SEASON IN HEART EVEN IF YOU CAN’T IN DISTANCE.  REMEMBER EVERYTHING HAS A BEGINNING AND END.  LET YOUR ENDING BE REMEMBERED AS A PERSON WHO HAD HEART AND PASSION IN EVERYTHING THEY FELT WITH AND THEIR ACTIONS TOWARDS OTHERS.  HAPPY HEART-I-DAYS, OR HOLIDAYS.

COVID-19 & MENTAL HEALTH CORRELATION

“Success is a lousy teacher. It seduces smart people into thinking they can’t lose.”
-Bill Gates

COVID-19 is undoubtedly the biggest pandemic in at least a century if not more. Elderly people who have been through various recessions, the great depression and major wars such as World War II have all said there has never been outbreak like this in their lifetime.

Even the people who were the most nonchalant about it in the beginning are now gripped with fear and anxiety with each passing day.

And then, there are people with mental health issues such as myself who are observing the situation and thinking, the world FINALLY understands.

Taking the Right Advice

“The people with the best advice are usually the ones who have been through the most.”
-Unknown

I’ve written several posts before about listening to your heart when it comes to major decisions. I’ve talked about how manu people will try to dictate your life path but ultimately, everything’s up to you.

Given that Samantha and I are starting an advice section on this site, I’ve recently asked myself when is it okay to listen to others? When do you finally throw in the towel and tell yourself you need help?

Empathy

“The highest form of knowledge is empathy.”
-Bill Bullard

What is empathy? The textbook definition has always been of putting yourself in someone else’s shoes to see things from their point of view.

But isn’t that an aspect of basic psychology; to determine why a person thinks or acts a certain way?

People usually associate the aftermath of empathy with compromise or giving in to the other person.

But it can be something far beyond that.

If we learn to empathize on a bigger level, going as far as to understand why terrorists, kidnappers and/or murderers commit the heinous acts that they do, there’s a possibility of a higher prevention rate.

Empathy need not be just a thought process of “I understand your point of view and am fine with it.”

It can also be an outlook that says, “I understand why that person did what he or she did and can stop them the next time.”

The other misconception about empathy seems to be equating it to agreement. It’s not.

You can understand something from a fresh perspective and still disagree.

I know why paedophiles act the way they do. They have a serious illness of perversion. But that doesn’t make it right or forgivable in any shape or form.

Empathy has a lot of benefits on an intimate level with family and friends and on a bigger level as well. We just need to learn to apply it beyond the status quo.

How do you feel about empathy? Is it something you apply to everyone or just your loved ones? Share your thoughts below in the comments section.
