WORRYING (HOW DO WE STOP IT?)

How do we cope with worry?  Does any good come from worrying?  There is no evidence that worry does anything that is positive. Worrying is destructive.  We worry about our finances, illness, our children, our life, others, and sadly, it is normal but an outlet most of us overuse.  We need to find another outlet to get rid of excessive worry.  There is one thing we can do which is control the amount of time we worry.  We can allow ourselves a certain amount of time we worry by allowing ourselves five minutes to worry, timing it by a clock.  This may seem silly, but before judging this, try it.  When we are conscious of our thoughts, we can control them.  We need to prepare ahead of time.  How do we do this?

When we write down how we are feeling, especially when worrying, we are giving ourselves an outlet.  I wrote on the daily wisdom word, release just today.  We must find a way to release all of the negative energy when we worry.  One good wisdom statement I have always thought of is this:  We can’t control the future, and we can’t change the past.  All we can do is “live” in the present.  Living is not about worrying.  Horrific things go on in life.   I am dealing with family situations and I find my mind drifting towards all the negativity. There are a number of ways to help with worry but no sure way to ever make it go away.  I think some worrying is parr for the course.  I even think that a little worrying may be okay simply because it prepares us for the hardships out there by at least preparing our mind.    Let us take a look at the definition of worry in the Webster Dictionary.

Webster definition of worry-1. give away to anxiety or unease, allow one’s mind to dwell on difficulty or troubles.

Daily Wisdom Words definition of worry-1.  to be and stay constantly concerned about a situation allowing them or it to cause ill-ease.

If worrying about things monopolizes your day, than you may be suffering with generalized anxiety disorder.  If this is the case, you will need to engage in potential psychotherapy.  It is one thing to choose not to worry.  It is another to escape from worry.  Zoning out in front of the television or zoning out with drugs or alcohol can cause us to “escape, but not fix our problem with excessive worry.  Here are some suggestions to help you evaluate how to stop worrying.

  1.  take a worry time, daily.  Set aside time to worry.  Allow yourself to worry during this time period, but do not allow yourself to worry any more than this.  This requires being conscious of one’s thoughts and breathing.
  2. Write down or journal about your worries.  This provides an exit strategy for the mind.
  3. if you find yourself missing sleep over worrying, it is time to seek the help of a professional counselor who deals with worry and anxiety and even potential medicines that help
  4. do an objective assertion as to whether you are problem solving or looking for solutions, or the opposite which is to worry.

Thanks so much for reading about worry and my suggestions to help it.  I suffer from G.A.D. and do use negative solutions myself sometimes.  Have a beautiful day.

RUMINATION

drawing showing negativity and rumination

What does rumination mean?  How do we process rumination when our thoughts are out of control and we cannot stop worrying?  Individuals who ruminate, often overthink or obsess about situations or life events.  They dwell on intense conversations playing them over in their head.  Their thinking becomes “stuck” with one situation or injustice that is happening.  Many times they ask themselves, why me?  (I am beginning to think I ruminate).  I found this word today and decided to look up its meaning.  Remember, my last post focused on worrying.  Ruminating sometimes becomes about replaying the past over and over looking for a solution. If this is the way you find answers or closure, some portion of the negative happening in your life, rumination becomes a positive thing.  However, most of us replay a situation over and over again and even change our thought process, but we still end up at the same destination.  We become like the mouse in the maze trying different ways to escape.  We have that in common with the rat.  Rumination in an indirect manner and can be just like the example of that rat.  We think more about events that happen out of our control.  Rumination leads to mental health issues including G.A.D.  (generalized anxiety disorder).

Let’s take a look at the definition of rumination in our Webster Dictionary.

Webster definition of rumination-1.  a deep or considered thought about something.  2.  The action or process thinking deeply about something.  The action of chewing on the cud.

Daily Wisdom Words definition of rumination-thoughts that begin by thinking intensely, never finding a solution no matter how long you think.

Rumination may also cause you to feel guilty.  For example, you might find yourself with these kinds of thoughts:  if only I had done XYZ differently.  The end result is the same.  Rather than being mindful and existing in the present, we dwell on the past instead.  Rumination can lead to some types of personality disorders including borderline personality disorder.  Remember:  The difference with Rumination and worrying is sometimes we worry and arrive at a solution.  Rumination does not ever result in a solution; instead, ending with blaming ourselves.  What can we do about rumination?  First, we must be honest with ourselves.  Are we an excessive worrier or a person suffering with rumination, which is more often than not a symptom of something more serious?

Sometimes, the hardest things, are the simplest solved.  I will recommend what I have found to be sound research.  Psychologist, William Jones said , “the greatest against stress is our ability to choose one thought over another.”  By altering our inner dialogue, better known as “self-talk” can enhance creativity and happiness.  Our question is, how do we choose one thought over another?

According to Psychology Today, there are 16 strategies for combating rumination:

  1.  Distract with books, movies, magazines, museums, a busy street or a fast walk.
  2.  repeat the Serenity Prayer by Niebuhr:  “God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I can’t change, change the things I can, and wisdom to know the difference.”
  3.  Repeat a comforting phrase, an affirmation, a prayer, a poem or a song to yourself
  4.   Exercise or walk.  Moving your body can move the content in your head.  Notice the aspects of nature or humanity that are larger than your conundrum.  Try to focus on what is outside of you rather than what is inside you.  (Let’s think of this as “physical affirmations”.
  5.   If you are “catastrophing or awfulizing,” think of the horrors you have thought of in the past that never came to fruition.  think of the worst thing that ever happened and write down 3 positive outcomes.
  6.   Counting your blessings instead of sheep.  According to Composer, Irving Berlin, Research shows a grateful person is a happy person.
  7.   Listen to music that has meaning for you or clean the car with the radio blasting Rolling Stones or whatever song you love.
  8.   Listen to radion programs, tht tell compelling stories about people who have undergone unusual struggles and truimphs.  Watch a comedy channel.
  9. Make arrangements to meet a good friend who can be relied upon to have a sensitive response or make you laugh
  10. Trade heaviness for lightness even if that somehow feels wrong or unnatural or strange.
  11.   Re-write the narrative.  Sometimes if we can find a way to soften the story, minimize the blows, tell ourselves that the injury is really not going to damage us, it restores us to a sense of balance.
  12. Say, “Don’t thin,, don’t think, don’t think and then do something instead like cook, scrub fix, run, go somewhere and be around others.
  13. Gear up into high action:  Accomplish more than you think you can, want to, or than you even need to.  Get five things done instead of three.
  14. .  Think about someone you know suffering;  feel compassion for them.
  15. .  Take a boxing class if meditation doesn’t work for you.  Wear pink boxing gloves to support breast cancer research.
  16.    Don’t hang out with a demon-filled head!  here are 2 more things I thought of:  Journal, or garden.

There should be something in the above suggestions that will work for you.  When all else fails, and you simply have tried everything, remove it from your hands and place it in the hands of another professional counselor or therapist that can help you deal with this.  Thanks so much for reading about rumination today.

My hope and thoughts are with all of us who deal with high anxiety levels which are at the heart of rumination, or the trigger point that push us to this level instead of dealing and coping with better skills, proper grounding, and capable of self-calming despite the situation.

PANIC

COVID-19 BRINGS IT, PANIC.  PANIC IS ALMOST A PART OF WHAT WE ARE ALL EXPERIENCING TO ONE DEGREE WITH THE CURRENT WORLD SITUATION DEALING WITH THE CURRENT PANDEMIC.  IT IS STRANGE HOW NAIVE I WAS AS RECENTLY AS TWO MONTHS AGO.  I REMEMBER THE DATE, MARCH 7TH.  I KNOW THIS BECAUSE I REMEMBER THE DATE OF OUR TICKETS DEPARTING FROM DENVER INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT TO BOISE INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT.  WE WERE ON A PLANE TO IDAHO GOING TO VISIT OUR DAUGHTER.  NEWS WAS JUST STARTING TO INFILTRATE THE NETWORKS ABOUT THE CORONAVIRUS  NOW MOST OFTEN REFERRED TO AS COVID-19.  I REMEMBER MY DAUGHTER BEING A FAIRLY NEW MOTHER, WARNING US OF THIS VIRUS SHE HAD BEEN RECENTLY HEARING ABOUT THAT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE SERIOUS AND ME THINKING TO MYSELF SHE WAS WORRYING WAY TOO MUCH DUE TO THE LACK OF INFORMATION WE HAD YET TO FIND OUT AND HOW SHE WAS PROCESSING IT DUE TO HER BEING NEW AT MOTHERHOOD.

BEFORE GOING ANY FURTHER, LET US TAKE A LOOK AT THE DEFINITION OF PANIC AND WHAT IT MEANS NOT ONLY IN THE WEBSTER DICTIONARY AND OUR DAILY WISDOM WORDS DEFINITION.

WEBSTER DEFINITION OF PANIC-SUDDEN UNCONTROLLABLE FEAR OF ANXIETY, OFTEN CAUSING WILDLY UNTHINKING BEHAVIOR.  2.  A FRENZIED, HURRY TO DO SOMETHING

DAILY WISDOM WORD DEFINITION OF PANIC-FEELING OUT OF CONTROL OF OURSELVES OR CIRCUMSTANCES OUT OF OUR CONTROL AS WE PERCEIVE THEM.

PANIC NOW SEEMS TO RULE THE WORLD.  I AM A PERSON WHO HAS A HIGH ANXIETY LEVEL ANYWAY WITHOUT ANYTHING TO BE ANXIOUS ABOUT.  UP UNTIL ABOUT FOUR YEARS AGO, I USED TO WORK OUT FOUR TO SIX DAYS A WEEK TO MANAGE THIS.  I ALSO HAVE TAKEN AN ANTI-ANXIETY MEDICINE AT NIGHT TO HELP ME SLEEP SINCE I WAS APPROXIMATELY 20 YEARS OLD.  FEAR, WHEN EXPERIENCED WITH A FEELING OF NO CONTROL, LEADS TO PANIC.  PANIC CAN EVEN LEAD TO AN EVENTUAL “PANIC ATTACK” WHEN EXPERIENCED WHEN ONE LOSES CONTROL OVER THEIR FEELING.  PANIC ATTACKS CAN ALSO OCCUR FOR NO APPARENT REASON AND INCLUDE A WIDE VARIETY OF PHYSICAL SYMPTOMS INCLUDING RACING HEARTBEAT, UNEVEN FAST BREATHING, AND PERSPIRING PROFUSELY.  MENTAL CONDITIONS INCLUDE INTIMACY DISTANCING, RACING PULSE.

I FIND MYSELF FEELING PANIC COME ON WORSE THAN EVER.  I HAVE HAD PANICKY FEELINGS BEFORE, BUT NOW, I REALIZE IT IS EASIER TO TURN EVERYTHING OFF AND STAY INDOORS THAN IT WILL EVER BE TO START THINGS UP AGAIN.  WE CAN NEVER FORGET WHAT HAS HAPPENED WITH THIS PANDEMIC.  WE ARE MUCH CLOSER TO THE NEXT ONE THAN WE KNOW.  THE GOOD NEWS IS WE CAN. BE PREPARED FOR IT, IF WE PLAN FOR IT, NOW.  PLEASE LEAVE A COMMENT AND LET US KNOW IF YOUR FEELING THIS WAY AS WELL WHERE IS SAYS JOIN THE DISCUSSION BELOW.

COVID-19 & MENTAL HEALTH CORRELATION

“Success is a lousy teacher. It seduces smart people into thinking they can’t lose.”
-Bill Gates

COVID-19 is undoubtedly the biggest pandemic in at least a century if not more. Elderly people who have been through various recessions, the great depression and major wars such as World War II have all said there has never been outbreak like this in their lifetime.

Even the people who were the most nonchalant about it in the beginning are now gripped with fear and anxiety with each passing day.

And then, there are people with mental health issues such as myself who are observing the situation and thinking, the world FINALLY understands.

WORRY

5/19/2020

TODAY’S DAILY WISDOM WORD IS WORRY.  I FEEL WORRIED FOR OUR FUTURE, ESPECIALLY MY FAMILY WHICH INCLUDES MY CHILDREN, MOTHER AND GRANDCHILD AND OUT OF STATE BROTHERS AND SISTERS. WORRY AND FEAR CAN ZAP OUR  ENERGY AND DESTROY ANY POSITIVITY WE MAY FEEL.  THIS PANDEMIC CAUSES ME GREAT STRESS AND WORRY.  ALSO KNOWN AS COVD-19, IT IS ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT THINGS THAT WILL HAPPEN IN THE 21st CENTURY. AND THERE IS NO ENDING IN SIGHT.  A CURE FOR THIS MEGAVIRUS IS NOWHERE IN IN SIGHT AS WELL AND WE CAN ONLY WATCH AND WAIT AMID A FALLING STOCK MARKET.

WHEN ONE THING HAPPENS, ACCORDING TO UNIVERSAL LAW, IT SETS OFF A SERIES OF “THINGS” OF  LIKE KIND HAPPENING LIKE AN AVALANCHE ROLLING DOWN A MOUNTAIN BUILDING MOMENTUM AND THE MOMENTUM CONTINUES TO INCREASE UNTIL IT REACHES THE BOTTOM OR END (RUNNING OUT OF ENERGY).  IF YOU HAVE EVER WITNESSED AN AVALANCHE ROLLING DOWN A MOUNTAIN, YOU WILL NOTICE ITS SPEED INCREASE AS IT GETS CLOSER AND CLOSER TO THE BOTTOM. LET US ALSO TAKE A LOOK AT THE DEFINITION OF WORRY.

WEBSTER DEFINITION OF WORRY-1.  GIVE WAY TO ANXIETY OR UNEASE;  ALLOW ONE’S MIND TO DWELL ON DIFFICULTY OR TROUBLES.

DAILY WISDOM WORD DEFINITION OF WORRY-AN EMOTION OF FEELING TROUBLED WITH SOMETHING THAT GREATLY CONCERNS YOU OUT OF YOUR CONTROL.

NEXT, I WILL MAKE SOME SUGGESTIONS HOW WE CAN MAKE THE BEST OF EACH OF THE DAYS THAT FOLLOW:

1.  COVID-19 WILL GET WORSE, BEFORE IT GETS BETTER.

2.  WE MUST HOLD ONTO HOPE.  IN THE PAST, WARMER WEATHER HAS CAUSED A SLOW DOWN IN A VIRUS SPREADING.  LET US PRAY THIS IS THE CASE WITH THIS VIRUS.

3.  WE MUST LET GO OF TRYING TO CONTROL IT OUTSIDE OF WHAT OUR OWN PERSONAL CAPABILITIES ARE.  IF WE ARE AN INFECTIOUS DISEASE SPECIALIST, OUR CAPABILITY TO MAKE A CHANGE TOWARDS HELPING OTHERS DIRECTLY AFFECTED WITH THIS VIRUS IS MUCH GREATER THAN ME, FOR EXAMPLE WHO IS NOT AN INFECTIOUS DISEASE SPECIALIST.

4.  WE MUST NOT ALLOW FEAR TO BECOME GREATER THAN THE STRENGTH OF THE VIRUS ITSELF.

5.  WE MUST HELP IN WAYS THAT WE ARE CAPABLE SUCH AS WASHING OUR HANDS FREQUENTLY, KEEPING COUNTERTOPS AND HAND TOWELS CLEAN AND MAKING SURE WE HAVE PROPER SUPPLIES ON HAND.

6.  WE MUST LISTEN TO THE INDIVIDUALS WHO ARE PROFESSIONALS AND THE ADVICE THEY GIVE US SUCH AS PRACTICE “SOCIAL DISTANCING AND STAYING AWAY FROM ANYONE WE CAN AVOID HAVING DIRECT CONTACT WITH.

7.  WE MUST LISTEN TO THE NEWS  NOT TO OBSESS ABOUT IT BUT TO STAY UP WITH THE LATEST EDUCATION THAT AFFECTS US DIRECTLY.  IN THE CASE OF COVID-19, THERE ARE NOT MANY FACTS THAT CAN’T CHANGE. YES, CANNOT CHANGE.  I HEARD ON A REPUTABLE NEWS CHANNEL THAT “LABELING” HIGH-RISK GROUPS AS ORIGINALLY THOUGHT MAY NOW NOT BE AS EFFECTIVE AS WE ORIGINALLY THOUGHT.

8.  EVEN THOUGH WE MUST STAY SOCIALLY ISOLATED, OR DISTANCED, WE MUST KEEP OUR MINDS BUSY WITH PRODUCTIVE ACTIVITY.  IF WE ARE NOT DOING THIS AND CONSTANTLY WORRYING ABOUT THIS VIRUS, WE WILL NOT MAKE IT THROUGH THIS TO THE OTHER SIDE WITH OUR SANITY.

9.  AS I HAVE OFTEN SAID, WE CANNOT CHANGE THE PAST.  (I OFTEN HEAR OTHERS SAYING “WE KNEW THIS WAS COMING AND DID NOT PREPARE FOR IT).  MY QUESTION TO THEM IS, HOW WILL THINKING ABOUT THIS, DO US ANY GOOD WITH OUR CURRENT SITUATION?  WE MUST LIVE IN THE PRESENT.  WE HAVE NO CONTROL OVER THE FUTURE EITHER, EXCEPT WHAT WE, DEPENDING ON WHAT ROLE WE PLAY OTHER THAN WORKING IN HEALTH CARE, CAN DO WHICH IS WASH HANDS FREQUENTLY, AND KEEP COUNTERTOPS, SURFACES, HAND TOWELS CLEAN, AND OBSERVE SOCIAL DISTANCING.

10.  ALTHOUGH SOCIAL DISTANCING SHOULD OBVIOUSLY BE OBSERVED, CALL LOVED ONES OFTEN, ESPECIALLY LONELY FAMILY MEMBERS WHO ARE COMPLETELY ISOLATED-REMAIN POSITIVE WHEN INTERACTING WITH THEM.

THANKS FOR READING ABOUT WORRY, ESPECIALLY SURROUNDING COVID-19, AND MY SUGGESTIONS ON HOW TO BEST COPE.  MAKE IT A GREAT DAY.

APPREHENSION

TODAY’S DAILY WISDOM WORD WILL BE APPREHENSION.  WE ALL HAVE FELT IT.  WE ALL ARE EXPERIENCING SOME FORM OR ANOTHER OF IT NOW.  APPREHENSION.  BEFORE GOING ANY FURTHER, LET’S TAKE A LOOK AT THE MEANING OF APPREHENSION IN OUR WEBSTER DICTIONARY AND THE DAILY WISDOM WORDS MEANING.

WEBSTER DEFINITION OF APPREHENSION-1.   ANXIETY OR FEAR THAT SOMETHING BAD WILL HAPPEN.

DAILY WISDOM WORD DEFINITION OF APPREHENSION-WHAT WE FEEL WHEN WE BEGIN TO REALIZE THE NEGATIVE CONSEQUENCES OF LIFE.

APPREHENSION IS PREVALENT RIGHT NOW.  WE CAN’T HELP BUT EXPERIENCE IT WITH OUR CURRENT SITUATION.  AT FIRST, WHEN WE FOUND OUT WE WERE IN THE MIDDLE OF A PANDEMIC, WE STAYED IN SHOCK.  SHOCK IS THE FIRST FEELING WE HAVE, AND IT IS OUR MIND AND BODY’S WAY TO PROTECT US SO WE ARE NOT SO OVERWHELMED AS WE FACE THE TRUTH.  APPREHENSION IS SCARY IN MANY WAYS.  PART OF APPREHENSION IS ACCEPTING CHALLENGING CIRCUMSTANCES YOU HAVE NO POWER OR CONTROL OVER.  RIGHT NOW, REALITY IS JUST HITTING ME WITH THE COVID-19 VIRUS.  MANY PEOPLE COMPARE IT TO THE FLU, WHICH EVERY YEAR WE HAVE A VACCINE FOR.  WHAT THEY DO NOT REALIZE, IS COVID-19 IS TWICE AS EASY TO SPREAD.  THIS IS WHAT MAKES COVID-19 SO VERY DANGEROUS AND FILLS US WITH APPREHENSION.

WHEN WE ARE EXPERIENCING APPREHENSION, WE ARE FILLED WITH FEAR AS WELL.  APPREHENSION IS ESPECIALLY FELT WHEN WE ARE NO LONGER IN CONTROL OF SOMETHING AND THERE IS LITTLE WE CAN DO TO CHANGE IT.  IF YOU ARE NATURALLY NOT A TRUSTWORTHY PERSON, APPREHENSION IS FELT TO SOME DEGREE ABOUT EVERYTHING YOU ARE NOT IN CONTROL OF.  I HAVE A TENDENCY NOT TO LIFT THE ROCK UP TOO HIGH AND LOOK AT WHAT IS UNDERNEATH IT.  I THINK THIS IS MY WAY OF ACCEPTING THE TRUTH, WITH AS MUCH INFORMATION I AM ABLE TO COPE WITH.

WHAT ARE THE THINGS CAUSING MOST OF OUR APPREHENSION WITH THIS DISEASE?  1.  MOST OF US HAVE NEVER BEEN IN THE MIDDLE OF A PANDEMIC BEFORE.  2.  IN ORDER TO AVOID THE VIRUS, THE MOST EFFECTIVE THING YOU CAN DO IS WASH YOUR HANDS FOR TWENTY SECONDS WITH SOAP AND WATER.  ALL THE STORES SEEM TO BE SOLD OUT OF CLEANING SUPPLIES AND ANTIBACTERIAL SOAP.  3.  WE WORRY ABOUT WHEN CIRCUMSTANCES WILL CHANGE FOR THE POSITIVE.  4.  IF WE ARE ALONE, WE ARE FILLED WITH A HIGHER LEVEL OF FEAR AND APPREHENSION.  WE DO NOT HAVE ANYONE TO TURN TO AND SPEND MOST OF OUR TIME ALONE.  5.  SOME DECISIONS WE TAKE FOR GRANTED ARE NO LONGER POSSIBLE TO AVOID THIS DISEASE FROM SPREADING.  6.  “SOCIAL DISTANCING” IS ALSO ISOLATING YOURSELF.  A CERTAIN AMOUNT OF DEPRESSION OCCURS WHEN YOU THINK ABOUT NOT SEEING YOUR FAMILY AND FEAR SETS IN EVEN DEEPER.

*ADVICE-1.  KEEP YOURSELF AND YOUR MIND OCCUPIED.  CLEAN OUT CLOSETS, WRITE THAT BOOK YOU’VE BEEN PLANNING.  3.  MOST IMPORTANTLY, DO NOT ALLOW YOUR MIND TO DRIFT FROM THINKING ONLY OF “THE PRESENT”.  WHEN WE THINK OF THE PAST, WE FEEL ANGRY WONDERING WHAT MORE OUR GOVERNMENT COULD HAVE DONE TO BE PREPARED.  WHEN WE THINK OF THE FUTURE, IT IS UNKNOWN FOR ALL OF US AT THIS TIME.  DO YOUR BEST TO STAY POSITIVE.  TAKE SHORT WALKS AVOIDING CROWDS IF YOUR STILL ABLE.  MANY CITIES ARE ON LOCKDOWN.  THIS MEANS THAT THERE ARE STRICT RULES ABOUT GOING OUTSIDE.  EXERCISE OF ANY FORM WILL CREATE SEROTONIN.  THIS IS OUR GOOD MOOD CHEMICAL IN OUR BRAIN AND IT WILL HELP US TO COPE WITH THE UNKNOWN WHICH IS WHERE OUR APPREHENSION STEMS FROM.  MOST OF ALL, DO YOUR PART.  THIS MAY MEAN WRITING SOMETHING THAT HELPS OTHERS.  THIS MAY MEAN TAKING GROCERIES IF YOU ARE NOT IN THE HIGH-RISK CATEGORY TO THOSE IN NEED.  USE COMMON SENSE.

THANKS SO MUCH FOR READING ABOUT APPREHENSION TODAY.  EVERY DAY, I WILL DO MY BEST TO WRITE HELPFUL POSTS AND CONTINUE TO FOLLOW MY OWN ADVICE AND HEALTH PROFESSIONALS.

RESTLESSNESS

Why do we get restlessness?  Is it a condition some people are born with or do we all get restless from time to time?  Restlessness can be caused or brought on by many different factors.  Before we go any further, let’s take a look at the definition of restlessness in our Webster Dictionary and our Daily Wisdom Words Definition.

Webster Definition of Restlessness-1.  The inability to rest or relax as a result of anxiety or boredom.

Daily Wisdom Words Definition of Restlessness-Different factors that cause us to feel uneasy, unsettled, sleepless or anxious.

Restlessness is brought on by a variety of factors.  One of the main reasons we get restless, is when we are bored.  We don’t have our mind occupied in some way. Restlessness also seems to be triggered by not getting enough physical exercise.  Sometimes restlessness is brought on by mental issues, when we are children.  There are many diagnosis’s we get when we are children such as hyperactivity or ADHD.  (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder)

Because ADHD covers a wide variety of symptoms, and is probably where the real issue of a medical or serious mental definitions of restlessness within us occurs (when we are children), let us break down the behavioral disorders occurring primarily in children, including such symptoms as poor concentration, hyperactivity and impulsivity and of course, restlessness.

Let us first take a look at hyperactivity leading to issues of restlessness when we are adults, is defined as the condition of being abnormally or extremely active.  Hyperactivity is difficult to diagnose unless you are the parent of the child that has this potential symptom, or a Child Psychologist or Child Psychiatrist, can we tell if hyperactivity is part of a bigger state of restlessness, or medical diagnosis like ADHD.

We all have poor concentration from time to time in adulthood and childhood.  However, like anything, the frequency of it, determines if it is a long-term or medical condition, or if poor concentration is occasional.

Impulsivity is also another part of ADHD, which is Restlessness to its highest scale or a psychiatric or mental disorder can also be normal or simply part of someone’s personality depending on how often it is seen in someone.

Restlessness, when attached to the three things we just talked about, like poor concentration, hyperactivity and impulsivity are signs of deeper problems medical and psychological.  Sometimes we get restless, as I said, because our mind is not active enough and we are bored, or we have too much on our minds, and cannot relax.  It has always been so strange to me that the extreme of any behavior is usually a sign of something more serious.

If your feeling restless, try new things for it, such as Yoga, which has been shown to be highly effective or meditation which has also been shown to have a pronounced effect on restlessness before you worry that you have an issue.  Thanks so much for reading about restlessness today!  Have a beautiful and blessed day.  Sign up for Daily Wisdom Words today, for $10!  The below paragraphs will tell you what all a membership includes with Daily Wisdom Words.

Anxiety

“Worrying is like sitting in a rocking chair. It gives you something to do but it doesn’t get you anywhere.”

-Traditional Proverb

Though never having experienced it personally, it’s said that an axiety disorder is one the most common mental illnesses in the world.

Much like depression, the symptoms and triggers of it vary from person to person, but the root of it is medically defined as constant and excessive worry to the point of it hindering everyday activities.

Some of the more common symptoms are palpitations, profusely sweating and dizziness.

Much like depression, people with anxiety disorders have to deal with their fair share of folks who have misconceptions about.

Some people think it’s just stage fright, others think it’s just being introverted or a little shy.

The fact is, dealing with anxiety symptoms is sheer torture for the recipient of it. It’s not a case of feeling shy, it’s an actual fear that world around them is about to crumble.

As I mentioned at the beginning of this post, I’ve been fortunate enough not to have dealt with anxiety like I have with depression so my knowledge of it or lack thereof prevents me from writing a more in-depth piece.

But seeing those around me with it, I’ve learned a very big lesson over the years. When I see someone sweating or trembling I no longer assume it’s just nervousness that can be overcome with a small pep talk.

For more information, I would recommend talking to someone with an anxiety disorder as sometimes it’s difficult to describe what people with anxiety go through in just a textbook definition.

Do you have an anxiety disorder? Do you know people who do? How do you deal with it in each case? Share your thoughts by commenting below.
