OUR DAILY WISDOM WORD TODAY IS PATTERNS.  I AM SURE WE HAVE ALL HEARD THE WORD PATTERNS WHEN WE LISTEN TO THE WEATHER AND A HURRICANE BLOWS THROUGH.  MOTHER NATURE HAS PATTERNS.  LIFE ITSELF HAS PATTERNS WE OURSELF CREATE.  WE WILL START OFF WITH THE MEANING OF PATTERNS IN OUR WEBSTER DICTIONARY AND OUR DAILY WISDOM WORDS DEFINITION. 

WEBSTER DEFINITION OF PATTERNS-1.  A FORM OR MODEL PROPOSED FOR IMITATION;  EXEMPLAR.  2.  SOMETHING DESIGNED AND USED AS A MODEL 

DAILY WISDOM WORD DEFINITION OF PATTERNS-A DESIGN OR ORIGIN SUCH AS A DRESS MASS MANUFACTURED WHERE THE FABRIC AND DESIGN REPEATS ITSELF.  2.  REPLICATION OF CELLS IN THE HUMAN BODY. 

LIFE SEEMS TO FOLLOW PATTERNS.  THE EARTH TURNS ON ITS AXIS AROUND AND AROUND, THE SEASON’S OF NATURE HAPPEN AGAIN AND AGAIN. SECONDS AND MINUTES REPEAT THEMSELVES IN TIME AGAIN AND AGAIN AND SO DO WE IN OUR LIFE.  WHAT WE HOPE TO AVOID WITH “PATTERNS” ARE UNHEALTHY.

NOW HOW BEST TO TAKE CARE OF OURSELVES AND OUR PHYSICAL BODIES YET WE DO THINGS TO ABUSE OUR BODY KNOWING WHAT IS BEST.  PATTERNS ARE EITHER HEALTHY OR UNHEALTHY WHEN IT COMES TO THE HUMAN BODY.  FOR EXAMPLE, ONCE YOU GET INTO A PATTERN TO WORK OUT, THIS PATTERN TENDS TO REPEAT ITSELF.  I BELIEVE PATTERNS PLAY A MAJOR ROLE IN OUR LIFE AS WE LIVE AND BREATHE.  IF YOU ARE A HEALTHY EATER, CHANCES ARE YOU WILL EAT HEALTHY EVERY DAY. 

INTERESTINGLY, ONCE WE BREAK OUR PATTERN, IT SEEMS NATURAL TO RETURN TO IT SO IF WE HAVE UNHEALTHY PATTERNS IT CAN DAMAGE US OR OUR LIFE.  ADDICTION IS A VERY IMPORTANT THING WE ALL CREATE PATTERNS WITH.  ONCE WE ARE IN THE “HABIT OF SOMETHING”, WITHOUT ACTIVE THOUGHT MONITORING IF WE WISH TO CHANGE THIS PATTERN, WE SHOULD REALIZE THAT CHANCES ARE GOOD WE WILL FALL OFF THE WAGON AND RETURN TO THIS UNHEALTHY, DANGEROUS PATTERN.  LIFE IS FULL OF PATTERNS.  WE DELIBERATELY BUILD HEALTHY HABITS LEADING TO PATTERNS.  WITHOUT REALIZING IT, WE ALSO DEVELOP UNHEALTHY PATTERNS.  WE MAY KNOW THESE HABITS OR PATTERNS WHICH REPLICATE SUCH AS A VIRUS OVER AND OVER MUST BE CHANGED.

IMPRINTING “DO YOU KNOW HOW TO IMPRINT?”

WHAT IS “IMPRINTING”?  IMPRINTING IS PART OF AN OVERALL PLAN THAT LEADS US TO SUCCESS, STEP FOUR OF THE AFFIRMATION PROCESS.  WHEN I WAS YOUNG, I TOOK A SUMMER JOB SELLING TIMESHARE.  TIMESHARE IS SOLD BY SENDING MAIL TO A PROSPECTIVE CANDIDATE OFFERING THEM SOMETHING OF VALUE (GIFT) TO LISTEN TO A TWO HOUR PRESENTATION.   IT WAS THE SUMMER AFTER MY SECOND YEAR OF COLLEGE. 

I LEARNED MORE FROM A TRAINING COURSE THE TIMESHARE OWNERS INSISTED ALL SALESPEOPLE TAKE.  I UTILIZED THIS KNOWLEDGE OFF AND ON THROUGHOUT MY SALES CAREER LEARNING MORE IN THOSE THREE DAYS THAN THE PREVIOUS TWO YEARS OF FULL-TIME COLLEGE. BETTER YET, IT APPLIED TO MY LIFE AND PROVIDED ACTION TOOLS TOWARDS REACHING MY GOALS IN SALES AND MY PERSONAL LIFE.  AFFIRMATIONS ARE VERY POWERFUL.  THERE ARE FOUR STEPS TO THEM WITH THE LAST ONE BEING “IMPRINTING” GOALS BY FEELING THE EMOTIONS YOU’D FEEL WHEN YOU REACHED YOUR GOALS, (STEP ONE) IN THE AFFIRMATION PROCESS. 

LOU TICE AND THE “PACIFIC INSTITUTE” TAUGHT TECHNIQUES SUCH AS IMPRINTING AS A PART OF A PROCESS TO ACHIEVE GOALS MAKING THEM MY REALITY.  GOAL SETTING, WRITTEN AFFIRMATIONS, VISUALIZATION FOLLOWED BY IMPRINTING WERE NECESSARY STEPS TOWARD MY OVERALL SUCCESS ACCORDING TO THE SPEAKER’S TEACHING THE COURSE.   HONESTLY, THE FIRST DAY OF THE COURSE I THOUGHT THESE FOLKS WERE A LITTLE “OFF THE WALL”.  AS EACH SPEAKER TALKED, I REALIZED THERE WAS SOMETHING AMAZING IN THEIR EYES.  THEY BELIEVED IN WHAT THEY SPOKE ABOUT AND HAD ACHIEVED THEIR OWN PERSONAL AND PROFESSIONAL GOALS. 

AFTER THREE DAYS OF TRAINING, I PUT THEIR TECHNIQUES TO THE TEST.  MY SALES DOUBLED BY FOLLOWING THESE COURSES AS I USED THE POWER OF SUGGESTION AND REPETITION.  I FOUND THAT UTILIZING THESE FOUR STEPS ALONG WITH REPETITION OF THESE STEPS DAILY HELPED ME CULTIVATE A WINNING ATTITUDE, REACHING MY OWN GOALS.  WHAT SOME OF US DON’T KNOW IS THAT THE SUBCONSCIOUS IS MORE POWERFUL TO SUGGESTION BY FAR THAN THE CONSCIOUS MIND. FOR EXAMPLE, LOOK AT THE POWER OF HYPNOSIS.  WHEN WE ARE HYPNOTIZED, THE TARGET IS TO PUT US IN A RELAXED STATE TO REACH THE SUBCONSCIOUS WHICH FEEDS ON SUGGESTIONS. STEP FOUR,  IMPRINTIJNG ALLOWS OUR SUBCONSCIOUS TO WORK IN OUR FAVOR.  TO IMPRINT IS TO FEED THE SUBCONSCIOUS WITH THE EMOTIONS WE WOULD FEEL AFTER ACHIEVING OUR GOAL USING  AFFIRMATIONS, VISUALIZATION AND YES, IMPRINTING.  

SKEPTICAL?  I THOUGHT THE FIRST DAY OF THE THREE DAYS LISTENING TO SPEAKERS REPRESENTING THE “PACIFIC INSTITUTE” TAUGHT HOW POWERFUL A POSITIVE MENTAL ATTITUDE WAS AND THE SUCCESSFUL LIFE THESE LIVED DUE TO THE AFFIRMATION PROCESS AND ACHIEVING ONE’S GOALS. TO SUCCEED WE MUST FIRST HAVE A CLEAR AND CONCISE GOAL WRITTEN DOWN.  THE SECOND STEP IS TO WRITE IT AGAIN AS PART OF YOUR PRESENT LIFE AS IF IT IS A PART OF YOUR LIFE TODAY.  3.  THE THIRD STEP IS VISUALIZATION.  WE VISUALIZE OUR AFFIRMATION.  WE DO THIS BY FEELING THE EMOTIONS WE FEEL AFTER ACHIEVING THE GOAL, SPECIFIC MENTAL PICTURE OF HOW THIS AFFIRMATION INTEGRATES  ITSELF INTO EVERYDAY  AND VISUALIZING OUR SPECIFIC SUCCESS WITH THIS AFFIRMATION.  IMPRINTING IS THE FINAL STEP, ACTUALLY PICTURING AND FEELING THE RESULTS OF YOUR SUCCESS.  THIS ALLOWS THE AFFIRMATION TO IMPRINT INTO YOUR SUBCONSCIOUS AND IS VITAL TO ACHIEVE OUR AFFIRMATION.  WE TAKE AND DO THESE FOR STEPS SEVERAL TIMES A DAY. 

THESE STEPS ARE BEST PRACTICED  EARLY IN THE MORNING OR RIGHT BEFORE WE GO TO BED WHEN OUR MIND IS RELAXED ENOUGH FOR THE SUBCONSCIOUS TO RECEIVE THE INFORMATION.  THIS  IS  BASED ON FEELING THE EMOTIONS YOU WOULD FEEL HAD YOU ALREADY ACHIEVED A GOAL.  WE ARE MOST SUSCEPTIBLE TO SUGGESTION TO OUR SUBCONSCIOUS  BEFORE GOING TO SLEEP OR WHEN WE FIRST WAKE UP IN THE MORNING  WE WANT TO BE IN A RELAXED  MINDSET TO RECEIVE THE INFORMATION THROUGH EMOTION AND OUR OWN SUGGESTIVE PICTURES CREATED WHEN VISUALIZING INTO OUR SUBCONSCIOUS.  IN OTHER WORDS, WE IMPRINT OUR SUCCESS INTO OUR SUBCONSCIOUS AND CONSCIOUS MIND.  THIS IS VERY POWERFUL AND THE SPECIFIC TECHNIQUE WORKS WHEN PRACTICED WITH AN OPEN MIND WITH VIGILANCE.  “I DO THIS AND I ALREADY AM THIS”.

DISAPPOINTMENTS

TODAY’S DAILY WISDOM WORD IS:  DISAPPOINTMENTS.  WE ALL FEEL DISAPPOINTED FROM TIME TO TIME.  THE FEELING OF BEING DISAPPOINTED USUALLY COMES FROM DISPLEASURE IN OURSELVES FOR FAILING AT AN EXPECTATION WE HAVE.  IF YOU ASK MOST OF US, WE WOULD ANSWER THAT WE GET DISAPPOINTED WITH OURSELVES BASED ON GOALS OR ACCOMPLISHMENTS THAT WE DID NOT ACHIEVE.  WE WILL TALK about being disappointed in ourselves and in others. 

Prior to this let us take a look at the meaning of disappointments, both in the Webster Dictionary and our daily wisdom words meaning for disappointments. 

Webster definition of disappointments-The feeling of sadness or displeasure caused by the nonfulfillment of one’s hopes or expectations.  

Daily Wisdom Words definition of disappointments- a feeling resulting from failed expectations we have when we don’t achieve a goal or hope set or failed expectations we have when others let us down.  

As I mentioned above, for most of us the feeling of disappointment is caused more often by our expectations we have for ourselves.  The first thing we must do to avoid that feeling is set realistic goals we set for ourselves. 

For example, Sally wants to lose 100 pounds.  She sets out determined, but is an emotional eater.  within a month, she loses ten of these pounds.  Then, she is called into her bosses office at work.  He tells her due to low sales records for the year they must lay off a number of employees.  Sally in one of them.  She “feels” awful.  the previous week, what she wasn’t aware of was her immediate boss left the company because he too, was a part of the layoff.  Sally had applied for his position, “assuming” he quit.  

What lessons can we learn about expectations in Sally’s brief example?  First, we must learn we set a goal not preparing ourselves of unexpected consequences.  There are many things in life that happen we simply do not have control over.  We also “expected” we also set our expectation over something we did not investigate to get all the facts.  Because Sally is an “emotional eater” and has set such a lofty goal of losing 100 lbs,, when she arrives home, the first thing she does is dig into unhealthy foods and overeat. 

Because of her “expectations” that feeling of disappointment overtakes her logistical thinking about weight loss.  She gained five pounds back of the ten pounds lost within a week.  This happens due to failed expectations and setting a goal way above a more reasonable one.  She  feels hopeless, (yes, another emotion), and is now disappointed in herself about losing her job, and regaining the weight.  We can continue to feel this way for a lifetime.  Why?  Our goals are too lofty and our expectations in others, (we don’t control other people), too much.  Failed expectations also come from assumptions rather than getting answers to clarify expectations with ourselves and others.  

Expectations with others is the second reason we feel disappointed.  It is sad and I have had to realize myself time and time again, we simply do not control others and their actions.  Thinking in any way that we can or do, results in failed expectations.  

What expectations do you have in yourself that will result in disappointment from outside circumstances?  I want us all to think about this.  Often, when we feel disappointed in others by getting to the root cause of our reason we are actually disappointed in ourselves.  How do we change what we do expect from ourselves and others?  First, we set goals that are reasonable.  Losing 100 pounds is not impossible but must be done in increments, setting smaller goals throughout to achieve the end results.  We also should prepare ourselves that we may fall from grace by our own expectations.  When setting any kind of goal, be realistic.  If it is too lofty, break your gaol up into reasonable, smaller goals.  The end result is likely to be successful.  

We should always set goals for ourselves within reaching distance.  This means goal setting that is realistic and accomplished with small goals over time.  Our disappointment in others results from a false illusion we can control others actions.  We can’t and we need to stop wasting our time trying to.  

We all feel disappointed in ourselves from time to time.  Ask yourself the following questions today and leave me a comment in the “join the discussion” area beneath the post.  Are the expectations you set for yourself too lofty?  Are you controlled by emotion?  What can we do to stop feeling so disappointed?

SELF-AFFIRMATIONS – REVISED

It’s the repetition of affirmations that lead to belief. And once that belief becomes a strong conviction, things begin to happen.

Sometime last year, I had written a post on self-affirmations. At that time, my posts were still relatively short and brief. With a universal lock-down in place, I have found myself drawing closer to this subject after moving away from it for a while. Hence, I am re-posting part of that article but with new and relevant information and also, my reasons for losing faith in this topic but ultimately coming back to it.

ATTAINMENT

Our Daily Wisdom Word for today, is “attainment.”  Before we go any further, let us take a look at the definition of attainment in our Webster Dictionary and the daily wisdom word definition. 

Webster Definition of attainment-1.  the action or fact of achieving a goal toward which one has worked.

Daily Wisdom Word meaning of attainment-Having success after setting up a specific direction and steps to take towards the achievement of a  goal. 

We just read about the daily wisdom word, ” plateaus”,  and prior to that, we studied the daily wisdom word, “benchmarks” used in the process of achieving a goal.  When we have experienced passing the necessary “benchmarks” or stages, we have achieved mini-successes.   We put these min-successes together and we have attained a goal.  We have gone through peaks and valleys and plateaus and overcome them by changing things to surprise our bodies.  (again, I am using the example of a diet where a person clearly wants to lose sixty pounds, not a pound less, on a pound more.  We have broken our goal down into three twenty pound benchmarks to ensure success.  Remember:  We have a mental toolbox, and to achieve the final goal, required restraint, will power, but more importantly, how to trick our brains.  Our brain does best when we give it immediate gratification for its success, making breaking down a goal into three mini-goals.  

In the article just before this post, we talked about a goal having good chance e have done a few things right so far.  We have broken our big goal into three smaller ones. These smaller goals feel more possible to achieve even though the end result is the same accomplishment.

Of course, the first thing we did was make sure our goal is clearly defined that we are going to achieve. We then discussed “benchmarks” of achievement, breaking big goals into smaller ones, rewarding ourselves as we achieved each benchmark while working towards final attainment. We also discussed plateauing where we appear to be at a standstill with our goal. During these periods of traveling down the long road to the finish line, the one negative thing about making the choice as I did using dieting to explain different obstacles and suggestions with how we can attain a far better success rate using tools from our toolbox in life.  

No one can ever tell you how a book, blog, essay or poem will be written.  They may be able to show the framework after you’ve explained what you wish to achieve, they cannot, however, know your imagination and the words you would use to describe the house as you see it is not you.

Finally, we get to focus on our daily wisdom word today, “attainment”.  You have done all the right things:  affirmations, visualization picturing the specifics of what you wish to achieve and how you will feel once this happens.  You, also, by the way, have programmed your mind and fine-tuned it like a computer.  You have not gotten sidetracked with things in this life you cannot control such as other people, places or things.  We can, however, control how we direct our brains by understanding what makes them tick!!!  This is where attainment, or achieving a goal comes into play.  if you understand how the brain thinks and what excites it, you can tailor your goal setting around it.   

Summing up, we:  1.  Clearly and concisely define our goal. 2.  Visualize it and the feelings that will go along with it when you achieve your goal  3.  depending on the size of the goal, set up benchmarks along the way.  stop and reward yourself when you reach these benchmarks.  4.  understand that plateaus are a part of goal accomplishment or failure.  If you understand that it is typical to plateau off and make no progress temporarily, and not allow this to steer you off course when this happens, you will be fine and still easily achieve your goals reaching number five.  However, if you allow plateauing to get you down and steer you away from the goals you set for yourself, you may fail miserably and much time and energy will be wasted. 5.  Attainment (achieving a goal one has set for themselves). 

 

Whatever your goals are, they are precious and unique to you!  Believe in your dream.  know that the love you put into yourself shines and reflects on others making you and them a better person.  Good Luck!

Self-Affirmations

It’s the repetition of affirmations that lead to belief. And once that belief becomes a strong conviction, things begin to happen.

Do self-affirmations really work? Does saying something over and over again make it true? Was the book The Secret accurate?

Scientifically, no. If repeatedly you tell yourself you have a million dollars, the money won’t magically appear.

What affirmations can do, however, plant a seed of positivity in your head which will compel you to work harder towards your goals. And by doing so, you may see more fruition.

One of the things I tend do is make subliminal recordings for myself and listen to them on a loop. While that doesn’t always change the outcome, my attitude does become a lot more positive. When my thoughts are positive, I think much more clearly.

Affirmations may not be the miracle solutions to dilemmas as they’re often made out to be.

But that doesn’t make their contributions nil. It’s all about finding out what makes you tick and using it to your advantage.
