MINDFULNESS – THE REAL DEAL

“Wherever you are, be there totally.” -Eckhart Tolle
In this day and age, there’s a myriad of articles, tips, advice to focus on our mental state of mind in order to have more control, if not completely conquer. I myself have written countless posts on this topic for this site as well. But why is that? To the best of my knowledge, none of us really possess an ability of telekinesis to where if smiling will magically get rid of a virus or a backache. And yet, there is more emphasis on a mind-body connection today then ever before. What makes it so? What exactly makes the art of mindfulness so efficacious in practical terms?

PAY IT FORWARD – 03

“When you leave, teach. When you get, give.” -Maya Angelou Welcome to part three of my #PayItForward article series. The last two were very well received and I thank every reader for that. Here’s a third batch of writers that continue to inspire me and so many other independent writers among the online writing community. … Read more

CUTTING OUT TOXICITY

“Remove yourself from people who treat you like your time doesn’t matter, like your feelings are worthless, or like your soul is replaceable.” -s. mcnutt
I’ve written about cutting negative people out of your life or at least keeping a social distance (pun intended, ha) in some of my earlier posts. But a tweet I saw this morning made me think a little. A person’s tweet asked what if the toxic comes from a parent and/or an adult child? Should they cut them off?

PAY IT FORWARD – 02

“To move forward, you have to give back.” -Oprah Winfrey
Last week, I wrote a piece on writers and editors who I’ve always looked up to and have been a constant inspiration for me in my writing journey. That article was very well received. Hence, it’ll now be a weekly feature. Here is another list of fabulous folks from the online writing community that deserve recognition and continue be an inspiration to me and to countless others:

COPING WITH DEATH

“If the people we love are stolen from us, the way to have them live on is to never stop loving them. Buildings burn, people die, but real love is forever.”

-James O’Barr
We all go through it. It happens to people we love and cherish dearly. You know it’s coming and will continue to come till the end of humanity. It’s pre-destined from the day you’re born. I’m talking about death.

THANK YOU

“The struggle ends where the gratitude begins.” -Neale Donald Walsh
The following scenario is pretty much universal: Most hours of the day are spent at home, writing, reading, watching TV and/or chatting on Zoom with friends and family. If you’re fortunate enough in which your career requires a lot of online work, you’re still working. When you step out for essential needs, you may or may not have some kind of mask on.

ARROGANCE VS CONFIDENCE

“There’s a thin line between confidence and arrogance. It’s called humility. Confidence smiles. Arrogance smirks.” -Unknown
In all my articles for this site, I have always sited confidence as a key factor to get ahead in any endeavor. If you don’t believe in yourself, than nobody else will either. But as today’s quote says, there’s a thin line between confidence and arrogance. Once you cross that line, that path that you’re on becomes much more dangerous to tread on with a lot more one-way streets.

SELF-AFFIRMATIONS – REVISED

It’s the repetition of affirmations that lead to belief. And once that belief becomes a strong conviction, things begin to happen. -Claude M. Bristol
Sometime last year, I had written a post on self-affirmations. At that time, my posts were still relatively short and brief. With a universal lock-down in place, I have found myself drawing closer to this subject after moving away from it for a while. Hence, I am re-posting part of that article but with new and relevant information and also, my reasons for losing faith in this topic but ultimately coming back to it.

VALIDATION BE DAMNED

An amazing thing happens when you stop seeking approval and validation: You find it. -Mandy Hale
How necessary is it to for us to have validation? I have been asking myself this for the last few months. As an aspiring writer, there are times when, perhaps necessarily, seek validations from writers who I respect. Every time I come out with new story or poem, my mind always wonders “What will so-and-so think?”

PAYING IT FORWARD

“At the end of the day it’s not about what you have…it’s about who you’ve lifted up, who you’ve made better. It’s about what you’ve given back.” -Denzel Washington
If you’re a frequent reader of my posts (and a huge thank you to you if you are), you’ll notice that one of the things I routinely stress on is paying it forward, especially if it doesn’t take much effort or time. And even if it does, knowing you’ve helped someone goes a long way with your conscious.

COVID-19 & MENTAL HEALTH CORRELATION

“Success is a lousy teacher. It seduces smart people into thinking they can’t lose.” -Bill Gates
COVID-19 is undoubtedly the biggest pandemic in at least a century if not more. Elderly people who have been through various recessions, the great depression and major wars such as World War II have all said there has never been outbreak like this in their lifetime. Even the people who were the most nonchalant about it in the beginning are now gripped with fear and anxiety with each passing day. And then, there are people with mental health issues such as myself who are observing the situation and thinking, the world FINALLY understands.

ONE STEP AT A TIME

“If you set your goals ridiculously high and it’s a failure, you will fail above everyone else’s success.” -James Cameron
Yesterday’s post about introspection was a huge step for me. Not so much because of the topic itself but because I finally what I’ve been doing for the past month or so in words and for everyone else to see. Up until the point I hit “publish,” it was mainly a private affair for me. Much to my relief, however, it was a huge boulder off my chest. Psychologically, it proved to be highly advantageous for me. In that post, I talked about splitting up your emotions down to minute fragments. Today, I’d like to do something similar with that article. I wanted to focus on one specific thing I’d alluded to in that post: taking one step at a time.

INTROSPECTION AND EASTER

“Knowing yourself is the beginning of all wisdom.” -Aristotle
Happy Easter, everyone! I realize I have a lot of catching up to do as due to various technical glitches and a broken ankle, I was not able to put up posts all this week. As far as my understanding, however, all the glitches have been rectified so hopefully, there should no more issues. I had started talking about introspection in my last post.

THE HECK WITH CRITICS

“If you have no critics you’ll likely have no success.” -Malcolm X
What or who are critics? People who assess your work and critique it is usually the more common conception. And while that may be true, we often forget one basic definition: criticism is just an opinion. Now I’ve written about this subject before. But when I wrote about it previously, I wrote about it from the point of view as a writer.

SUICIDE & STAYING SAFE

“If you were born, you have a purpose. If you lived to be a certain age, you have a purpose. If you’re a human being, you have a purpose. Don’t kill the quest of finding out that purpose prematurely.” -Unknown
Amidst everything going one, I’ll going to take the liberty of keeping this post shorter than usual. There is one difference between this post and my other posts. I have not one but two messages of advice for readers.
